Look at that impressive memeing.
Why are all conservatards trying to destroy democracy?
LOL, keep voting against your best interest my man. Those Republicans will get around to helping the little guy someday. Right after they cut taxes for the ultra wealthy and get rid of your healthcare. At least then the diabetes will kill you and there will be less ignorant rednecks in the country. Honestly, what's the downside again?
I didn't say 10% or 2 people. I think the electoral college is a generally effective system. The natural resources that provide for this country aren't completely concentrated in dense cities. Letting some people Los Angeles decide the fate of a Bakken pipeline, or a metallurgical coal mine in Ohio just because there are more people there, is a fucking stupid idea. America is a big place, we need to let each state have a certain amount of pull. Remember, it's the "United States", plural.
There is no good, objective reason for keeping the electoral college other than 'it helps the people I like win elections.' Prove me wrong
Generally effective? The democratic candidate for president has won the election 6 of the last 7 times, but have only served 16 of the last 27 years. Doesn't seem very effective to me
It's called hyperbole, but sure we can quibble. 70% of this country lives in urban areas. When 7 out of 10 people have similar wants and needs, then yes they should have a larger say over the direction of the country.
When a President orders private companies to do things, isn’t that called Socialism?
And don’t Republicans think Socialism is bad?
Yes, 7/10 have similar wants and needs. Sure, depends on what they define as "urban". But I want you to look at our exports, and you tell me that it would make sense to, for example, ban fracking or offshore drilling. Or halt the petrochemical pipelines.
Democrats generally do not care about the economic repercussions of their decisions. If it was majority wins, they could make all sorts of promises that appeal to the emotional aspects of people in a feelgood manner.
Luckily, the key "swing states" must be treated fairly by politicians on both sides alike, or at least, the politicians need to pretend to care during the election cycle. If it was simple majority rule, we'd lose our energy independence and manufacturing capabilities because out-of-touch city people don't really know fuckall about manufacturing or energy.
