Better CPU than i7 6700k for gaming?

Better CPU than i7 6700k for gaming?

need more cores for discord and battlefield v at the same time

but i9 9900k the one i was thinking of getting only has a base frequency of 3.6 GHz
i7 6700k is 4.00GHz?

i9 9900k has 8 cores and 16 threds, double the amount the i7 6700k has so that sounds grreat for running other programs in the background with BFV, plus int he future there will be more gaming using the amount of cores BFV does, any tips?

Wait about a week for the 3900x or wait a few months for the 3950x.

Grab a ryzen 7

why

also why

I say just get the best thing your mom can afford to buy you.

I'm too fuckin retarded to understand any of this

Who cares about base clock, it boost at 4,7Ghz all core + 5ghz on one core, + it's easy to overclock.
Or you can just wait for the news 3000 Ryzen.

yeah sure, how many instructions per cycle, and do you really need that many cores? Games use no more than 4 so having 8 is overkill. Also just go foramd, it is cheaper, and you won't notice the difference

> but I do

no you don't faggit

ye thats what i was thinking, you think im better getting the i9 9900k?

feels good to have the expensive one instead of the trailer trash cheaper CPUs

Wish I still knew my Twitter

ye true that, but i run 2 monitors and a tv plugged into comp also, so i also want many other programs running in the background

plus im brainwashed into buying the nice stuff just like those fucking iphone users

Attached: 5cdb323c51e1b.jpg (1920x1080, 187K)

It's a nice upgrade from a 4 cores CPU but new Ryzen seems really interesting. You should wait for them or least wait for the dropping prices announced by Intel (-15%$)

yue thats true, when they coming out anyway? wont have enough money anyway for a week or two after work

If you only care about gaming then a basic bitch cpu is perfectly fine. What you need is a good GPU.
>Current games can have minimum reqs of as high as GTX 1060
>Grabbing a 1660 or RTX series card would be optimal
>If you want to stream then you need an actual CPU paired with your GPU

They come out in 8 days. Wait for the bench mark testing... they are not much cheaper than intels 9000 series so wait and see.

its just BFV then when i have discord i9n the background, got a 1080, and waiting for a 1080ti to come in the mail tomorrow so thats all fine, but because i7 6700k only has 4 core it lags when discord is open unless i set the affinity of discord to last core, annoying having to do that every time

I AM TRUELY FUCKING SICK OF DOING CAPTCHAS

Not gonna lie, Just want my 5 invites to see if there is something interesting on the other Side:

.gg/tgfDmt

Release is for 7 July IIRC, but you can already pre-purchase them... Which is not really wise because we still don't really know how well they perform. X570 motherboards will be expensive too

What should I say?

I wish I could understand :/ i honestly do

ill wait a while anyway, thanks folks im out

Attached: 1559212709796.jpg (975x1337, 205K)

screens are through gpu, also distrubitize your shit, if your game oc crashes due to bsod or something, your others are gone as well

You're looking at base frequency. The 9700k series has a max boost frequency of 4.9GHz, whereas your CPU only hits 4.2GHz.

was just mentioning screens to say that i run other programs on them yes i know that

is that boost frequency the turbo boost option in asus bios?

so the i99900k is definetly faster than i7 6700k?

Attached: 1547968317710.jpg (575x862, 123K)

>so the i99900k is definetly faster than i7 6700k?

Yes, alot faster. Better IPC, more and fastest cores. My 9900k holds 5,2Ghz accross all cores for 1,32v, 2200 pts on Cinebench 15. I'm just hoping it's not gonna be too trash compared to the next 3900x.

>is that boost frequency the turbo boost option in asus bios?
Yes. It dynamically changes the processor clock according to workload.
>so the i99900k is definetly faster than i7 6700k?
In every measurable way.

Though, just in case you aren't aware; you can't just plop a 9700k into a 6700k motherboard, so you're replacing that too.

Still doesn't beat Intel retail pricing.

and RAM

ah ok well wont be getting it then i forgot about that lo thanks for reminding me
what you mean?

Attached: 298262_3645-3645-leggy-european-teen-model.jpg (665x1000, 92K)

so the highest i can get is the i7 9900k then?

Nah, they both take DDR4, so he should be fine there.

Hey, OP what motherboard you running currently?

>Be me

>Parents look at total shit Cyberpowers and don't understand how PC gaming actually works.
>Tell them to stick to consoles.
>Little Shit insists on joining glorious PC Gaming Master Race.
I always help the parents out by telling them exactly what they're getting into.
>Explain the high cost of getting the tower, monitor, and peripherals.
>Tell them how upgrading works, and the time, effort, and knowledge needed to actually keep up with PC gaming.
>Explain to Braindead Little Monkey that he is actually going to get his entrails fed to him on a platter when he goes to PC multiplayer servers.
>They leave after I spent 20+ minutes explaing how they will taint the existence of the Glorious PC Gaming Masterrace by purchasing Disabled Piece of Shit Cyberpower.

If you work in retail electronics, you get special princing from Intel.

You're a monster.

Reminds me of when I was 10 and I went to a sporting goods store to buy a bb gun with my mother. Picked out a decent gun with 1000fps shot power. Then my mom asks the sales guy how far it could shoot, because we only have a few acres of land. The sales guy told her it would clear that easily, basically scaring my mom. Fucking dude was trying to talk her out of the sale. I spoke up, basically told him I can handle it and to shut up. Fucking sales monkey, just do your job and bag my items for me.

i don't know brah them discord chatroims push your cpu beyond the wall bro. you better book time on a cray at ncsa to do all of your discord chats about larping as a cuck

so i have a PRIME Z270-A motherboard, so the highest cpu i can get is a i7 9900k then?

sorry guys i forgot i had already read that, but does this motherboard support i8? i dont know

also i cant find what cooler master cpu cooler i have, and if its enough for overclocking? anyone know?

PRIME Z270-A
.

That's a gorgeous puss.
God bless every girl who waxes her pussy.
Jesus, please let this become the norm for girls everywhere.

>i7 6700k
>4 cores 8 threads
vs
>i9 9900k
>8 cores 16 threads
Do you still live in 2007? Now the frequency is not so important.

Base frequency isn't as important as number of cores / threads.

Also, most games are not CPU-bound, they're GPU-bound. A modern i7 will be more than enough. Spend the extra on the best graphics card you can afford.

it litterally tooke me this whole time to solve the captcha thats why slow reply and heres the picture of my cooler

Attached: 20190628_172052.jpg (4032x3024, 1.39M)

wait really, i thought it was just as important as the cores because its the speed of each core?

Yes really. Also, most games are GPU-bound, therefore you'll see very little performance increase beyond a certain point.

>but does this motherboard support i8? i dont know
asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/PRIME-Z270-A/HelpDesk_CPU/
These are the CPUs you can get. You're stuck at 4 core on that motherboard.

ye my main games are planetside 2 and bfv so these games are very cpu intensive, but i also want to be able to have discord and other stuff playing on my other screen and tv from the computer too

Attached: 8llP2f60VufGPhzHHFCG-OWAJtAtLLYp1RKlI8QDrnU.jpg (2592x3872, 1.29M)

I am surprised this actually worked

you should have just set him and his parents up with the most disproportionate cost-performance cyberpower or alienware

then when his whiney ass breaks some shit, they'll have to come back to BestBucks to buy a new one

you're a good person, but not a good salesman.

is it possible it's not the CPU, but the ram throttling your usage? CPU even while running modern games is almost always overspent on

only known picture

fucking fuck, just replaced the motherboard with this one, so whats the best cpu i can get out of that then, should i just stick with i7 6700k? also cant i get a ryzen cpu that is the same as i7 6700k with more cores? or do i need another board for that

Attached: 5cda724e8fd9b.jpg (1920x1080, 261K)

because they are cheaper and better in every single way from all the info that's been released so far.

rappunkzel

hears the think you buy top of the line at the start of the next console gen, you want have to upgrade for 7-10 years because of the game stagnaion that occurs because there no need to push tech forwards for awhile. otherwise your doing little jumps if you go in cheap,

The incremental performance increase (especially when it comes to CPUs of all things) means so much less when it comes to high end parts.

6700k is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than enough to run Disc and a basic ass game like BFV just fine, the only thing that will limit gameplay will be the gpu

how bout use your brain and realize the CPU isn't what is bottle necking your performance

fucking children should just stick to consoles

Lol, mostly every game use multi-threading. U stuck in 2013?

What is your graphics card, man?

>the next day, I filed for unemployment
no salesman worth his salt would turn down that opportunity

1080 but getting 1080ti tomorrow
oh really? well when i open discord and go in a call when im playing BFV the games fps tanks unless i make it so that discord is only using last core then it goes back to normal almost

>i7 6700k
>not good enough for discord and BFV

What are you talking about? I have the 6700, and it's more than powerful enough to handle that, and then some.

Also, clock speed isn't the only thing that matters. Memory bus speed, cache size, there are a lot of factors. I'd suggest learning a bit about CPUs before you blow a bunch of money on one.

Intel fanboy detected. AMD did always run a little hotter but never "melted". The only reason AMD lost the CPU battle last time because it couldn't perform as well as the Intel i series.

But now they are again back in the race. And they are kicking Intels butt right now. I say more power to AMD, that way we the consumers will finally benefit with a healthy competitive market.

you know your supposed to put some paste on it and slap a fan on it right?

Will Oculus work with AMD these days? That was my main reason for switching to Intel back when the CV1 came out. But I've been considering switching back.

>inb4 oculus bad, switch to vive
No.

>Will Oculus work with AMD these days?
Yes sir. amd.com/en/technologies/vr-oculus

Wish we had more than two companies to choose from. Same with GPUs. I like NVIDIA, they've always done good work. But it wouldn't hurt to have a few more options.

Might have to look into it then. I considered getting a threadripper. Are they still any good? I've been out of the loop for a while.

Honestly I'd stick with the 6700k for now.Your board _can't_ support a processor with more cores, and the 6700k _should_ be enough to handle Battlefield and Discord. Unless your AV is doing something in the background you shouldn't be seeing a bottleneck, at least not on 1080p.

I don't know on that, sorry. I am clearly not as far into the loop as I need to be, but I did want to answer the Oculus question at least.

You don't need an i9 for gaming. It won't make games run better. You need a better GPU.

Remember back in the day when Athlons were the king of the budget gaming PC market? Takes me back to a more innocent time... before I even knew about this shithole.
