Better CPU than i7 6700k for gaming?

Intel fanboy detected. AMD did always run a little hotter but never "melted". The only reason AMD lost the CPU battle last time because it couldn't perform as well as the Intel i series.

But now they are again back in the race. And they are kicking Intels butt right now. I say more power to AMD, that way we the consumers will finally benefit with a healthy competitive market.

you know your supposed to put some paste on it and slap a fan on it right?

Will Oculus work with AMD these days? That was my main reason for switching to Intel back when the CV1 came out. But I've been considering switching back.

>inb4 oculus bad, switch to vive
No.

>Will Oculus work with AMD these days?
Yes sir. amd.com/en/technologies/vr-oculus

Wish we had more than two companies to choose from. Same with GPUs. I like NVIDIA, they've always done good work. But it wouldn't hurt to have a few more options.

Might have to look into it then. I considered getting a threadripper. Are they still any good? I've been out of the loop for a while.

Honestly I'd stick with the 6700k for now.Your board _can't_ support a processor with more cores, and the 6700k _should_ be enough to handle Battlefield and Discord. Unless your AV is doing something in the background you shouldn't be seeing a bottleneck, at least not on 1080p.

I don't know on that, sorry. I am clearly not as far into the loop as I need to be, but I did want to answer the Oculus question at least.

You don't need an i9 for gaming. It won't make games run better. You need a better GPU.

Remember back in the day when Athlons were the king of the budget gaming PC market? Takes me back to a more innocent time... before I even knew about this shithole.
