Anyone else think the weirdness of this game is vastly overblown? The premise actually seems very simple.
It's a Sci-Fi Open World Survival game with a focus on traversal and exploration. The whole "strand" shit is about reconnecting a post-appocalyptic world with deliveries and infrastructure.
The main challenge of the game is crossing a harsh unforgiving map and building "bridges" to make the world more hospitable again.
it will be unlike anything the medium of video games has ever seen before. it will ring in a new era like cgi did for film or synthetic sound for music.

morrowind is about being jesus and going on a crusade to kill satan but also it's lord of the rings
Lucas Young
then why is everything they've shown so far things we have all seen before in video games?
In terms of actual gameplay it doesn't look like it's that out there, no. Story and setting look pretty unconventional. Babies in jars that detect demons, a guy who dies and resurrects every 20 minutes who looks for his family in the afterlife, rain that ages things, a lady whose child is stuck in another dimension, America transforming into a volcanic landscape that looks like Iceland... that's a pretty abstract and we don't even know where the plot is gonna go. Sure, I've read Science Fiction novels with weirder ideas but for a game it's pretty bold.
It is quite simple, butkojima being the faggot that he is likes to overcomplicate everything just to sound deep, I legit think he gets high at smell of his own farts
Liam Sanchez
>but kojima being the faggot that he is likes to overcomplicate everything just to sound deep he's doing it for PR in my mind >I legit think he gets high at smell of his own farts not disagreeing here. he really comes off like that
You defeat the black goo monsters by flinging your shit at them. Sometimes you can have a rare “bloody pee” that gives a damage bonus to your urine. Norman Reedus has a fetus inside him. Comatose women are used to gestate and harvest babies that are kept in artificial wombs to be used as sensors to detect dead things. Everyone is stranded in their own alternate universe, there is no human contact, and people can only communicate through the chiral network. You can pee on your enemies.
Weird enough for me champ.
Brandon Murphy
People mean the SETTING is unique, not so much the gameplay. But nonetheless a game where you primarily walk across a huge map with proper hiking mechanics is a novel concept.

>sam is ocelot >cliff is the sorrow >ww2 imagery references operation overlord >scar on sams chest symbolizes the boss' c-section scar >hand prints on sam are the sorrows >paranormal elements are explained as the sorrows powers interfering with the birth >destroyed america is what they subconsciously believe the world would look like if the operation isn't a success thus the boss' vision never happening >ds takes place within ocelots pre-conscious brain while he's birthed >6 locks represent the cobra members, ocelots keepers >4 soliders+ mads is the cobras, boss isn't there since she's being operated on >death stranding is a reference to cetacean stranding >where marine life beaches themselves when near death >boss is currently beached, shot in the gut during the raid. near death >mother whales >mother wails >breach babies are still connected to those on the other side >ocelot is still connected to the boss >ww2 solider shown in the same pose as the sorrow/mantis >cliff eventually catches up with same and askes him to come home. the screen goes black then blurred light fills the players vision. a blurred image of a man looking down on you smiling. an overhead view of the cobras on normandy is shown. the camera changes views pulling back from the beach. in the distance you see a bts shimmering. the screen slowly fades to blade. you hear a voice speaking over a radio saying how operation overlord was a success and that they must continue onto their next objective. this voice is none other than major zero. the text metal gear solid zero comes over the screen.

Metal Gear is actually uninteresting and Kojima is right to leave it behind. It was interesting at the time but metal gear fags need to move the fuck on.
Nathan Watson
>but metal gear fags need to move the fuck on. this. let it go.
It doesn't really seem complicated though, it's just different. They've put out like three trailers full of straightforward exposition that tell you all you need to know to follow the story, and the gameplay demo made the game sound quite simple. There's nothing deep about "people should connect with each other".
Justin Rogers
Kohima smokes weed on steroids.

>generic horror is more interesting than mg
Joshua Bell
This is gonna sound weird, but I think Kojima is targeting the neet/hikkikomori audience. Sam has a phobia of being touched, is ok with being alone, and doesn’t want to reconnect everything, but is forced to by the UCA. The chiral network has a social media aspect to it. Idk as a social retard with zero social contact, no social media, who hates our 1984/brave new world society, who kind of looks like Norman Reedus to boot, I feel targeted. Idk if I like the message of the game or not, but it’s not exactly something I know I don’t like.
Lucas Gonzalez
This.
Kojima uses flowerly language but the point of the game is very straight forward. The whole "stick and rope" shit he was talking about early on is literally-
Stick = Violence, solving problems with conflict, destroying the opposition; most video games fall into this category.
Rope = Building, working together, forming connections.
The whole point of Death Stranding is that Kojima wants the game to be about creation and not destruction. The philosphy behind the game is very simple but Kojima makes it seem weirder than it actually is.
Isaiah Martinez
It's the way it's shown to us, you fucking moron. Presentation. Direction. All the stories have been told, even this one. The pace that Kojima chose to give us informations about the lore and art direction makes it an intriguing AAA since the first trailer.
this is some of the most terrifying and original shit I’ve seen in ages
Nathaniel Hughes
He just wants people to stop being angry retards on the internet and go out and be nice to each other. >You know, human communication has changed as technology evolved. In the past, we only had letters. Then we had phones, radios and TVs. And now on the net, we can communicate in real-time with anyone anywhere. The world is now directly connected. At the same time, with everyone hidden behind their keyboards, this made it much easier for negativity to spread. With Death Stranding’s game system, I wish to indirectly connect the world. That way people will start thinking about each other’s feelings again. I hope people who experience Death Stranding will try to understand more about others and the society we live in, ultimately making the world a better place.
Camden Bell
>This is gonna sound weird, but I think Kojima is targeting the neet/hikkikomori audience.
It's more general than that. It's also about how the internet has fragmented society and how everyone seems more angry and hostile now. People have split up into "groups" (SJW, alt-right, 4channer, Tumblerina etc)
Death Stranding is Kojima's message about how he wants people to be less isolated and angry.
David Allen
silent hills is generic horror dingus. inb4 ds is silent hills.
Ian Anderson
>vastly overblown yes, I mean it could be okay/ 10 game, but massive shilling makes me sick
Evan Myers
So the game is basically mario 64 except with bridges
Holy fuck you idiots never look into anything, the game is about killing giant fucking monsters and then killing the ludens, the game starts slow as shit and is run of the mill shooting with some generic shit that ledditfags are trying to defend as unique. When In fucking reality the gameplay changes halfway through after You get to the west coast and BB eats shit and goes chiral, at that point you become like Cliff and fuck up the ludens. Congratulations you fucking imbeciles
This is a pretty good interpretation of the leaks. However no one could have predicted at that time that the game was a delivery guy simulator. Now we know all about that, and you stitched it with the previous leaks (the Time Wanderer-Shadow of the colossus one, to sum it up) and try to make it legit. I'm sure that some of that aspect will be in the game if you think about some of Kojima's previous comments, but i can't see how a Sony exclusive could pretend until the release to be something that it's not. Not to that extent, not in a million years.
I'm praying to be wrong, though.
Luis King
Quit moving the goalposts goalpost mover. We’re talking about Death Stranding, not silent hills ... but even silent hills is pretty original with some of its elements. Metal Gear Solid was all about tacticool aesthetics, wacky shonen villains, and 4th wall breaks. Silent Hill was psychological horror about broken families eldritch abominations alternate realities etc. MGSV, correctly, shat on Metal Gear fans because kojima wants to do something new. It’s got MkUltra mind control, digital simulation, 4th wall breaking, social conditioning and heavy horror elements under the surface. Death Stranding is something new. It’s got a little bit of Kojima’s past games in it, but he’s moving into new territory and making ... frankly ... one of the most original stories I’ve ever seen. Metal Gear is fucking boring. Silent Hill is fucking boring. MGSV is very fucking interesting, especially for how it ties into PT and Death Stranding. PT is interesting for the fact that it’s possibly disclosure ... Death Stranding is a powerful hyper-sigilic spell. You fuckers are in for a wild ride.
Dylan Fisher
The first trailer we see has Sam look up at the five floating figures with no adverse Reactions or having a BB. Catchers range from the Bt Lion to that giant fucking titan we saw in trailer three. Sam gets the c-sect scar same as cliff, and cliff can go through different dimensions and may even be the ruler of his own layer of hell, this game is deeper than what we’ve been shown
Caleb Lee
when i posted that original comment it was in reference to how faggot said mgs is boring and silent hills isnt. kys 2016 election redditor brazilnig

Relax, I’m already dead. You are fucked

Sure, the "Hades" side seems to be action oriented and Kojima will be able to cook some great bosses fight and huge chaotic moments. But the core of the game is walking and delivering, and i'm betting til the end. It won't turn into "Shadow of the Ludens" since the guy told everyone that was the premise of the game. Anyone can think exactly that seeing only the first trailer.
That doesn’t explain all the “the game changes halfway through” comments made by Kojima, sure, I doubt it will be “Shadow of the ludens”, I’m more willing to bet it’s going to be “Zone of ludens”. The core gameplay of delivery is just a cover for the actual plot twist and gameplay change, I don’t think those mechanics are going to go to waste though, holding L and R to balance might be used as hold L and R to stabilize in flight or some shit. It’s Kojima so who knows until the game comes out
Charles Hill
We spoke before on Yea Forums, then.
The comment by Kojima was that the game would begin slow (only the walking and delivery) and turn into something else by the 4-5 hours of gameplay (i'm trying to find source). I think he means all of the Hades stuff, boss fights, and Kaijus. But it remains an aspect of the game, i'm still not buying the ludens' suit = sam in the last act of the game, with the gameplay that follows.
All these comments about the moon though...
Jack Scott
I’m reserving my thoughts on the game for the most part, I was excited for MGSV and am still angry about it. But all the talk of the moon and next to no answers on what the fuck the five floating figures are, as well as all the shit about Higgs not being the bad guy or Cliff not being AN antagonist. All of it points to a plot twist that I’m hoping is something close to MGS2

Thanks, I hate it even more now.

No problem. I didn't want to play with you anyway
Kayden Williams
I got you, even though i love TPP (as a game). But he seems to get the message with his recent comment about having a lot of narrative without big chunk of the game being too "gamey" (unless you want to play it this way). So i'm having faith. He showed like 1 minute of Mads and 30 seconds of Lea, yet they seem to be the main characters. He's trying not to repeat his mistake of MGSV promo: Showing everything, including the ending, and trying to outsmart an audience that sees every trick. This time i guess it's full anti-spoiler mode, the most efficient imo.
