He probably means shit like, main character has a childhood friend but main character is a dumbass that doesnt understand her love for him. There is some adult that is a the badass of the group, most of the time some experience warrior/soldier that gave up from that life for "reasons". Some older female that acts like the mom to them. Another female that has some weird power but her mind is on the moon, sometimes pretty dumb. Some other male that is about the same age of the main character but is a dick with superiority complex until he chills out almost at the end. Some kind of mascot or animal in the group.
Villains are always about armies or some faction of the military of one of the countries, the main villain is actually some ancient evil alien
