I unironically enjoy fairytale style fantasy.
>JRPG
>Awaken 8 spirits to save the energy of the earth
>Then go and defeat 8 mega beasts of these same elements to save the world
You have it easy by just having to do that shit 4 times and not 16
>JRPG
>villains are genocidal aliens or demons
>heroes think "Maybe we're the bad guys."
git gud scrub
And why do you still play this trash aka JRPG, again? I wouldn't touch this crap even with a stick, you poor dumb weebs.
Wow, user! You're so badass and such a hunk! Truly the biggest of chads BTFO'ing virgin weebs! All the girls must fall to their knees when in your presence.
>JRPG
>villain is a fallen angel who still ranks higher than you in the holy hierarchy meaning you can't oppose him
>have to renounce your divinity to defeat him
That was IX right?
thx, weeb
>go find these 4 elemental crystals/towers/dungeons
>actually there are 6 or 8 of them
Stop with that shit, the joke is old.
yeah
>Stop with that shit, the joke is old.
They will stop once you retards start voting with your wallets.
There was this one skirt that would give the illusion they would wear no panties everytime they kicked.
>JRPG
>the same characters and character moments copy pasted from the last JRPG you played
how do they get away with that?
its like every company gets a kit with 15 or so characters they keep copy pasting. Its especially bad in franchises like Tales of.
>Its especially bad in franchises like Tales of.
Granted, I only played Berseria, Zestiria and Vesperia (in this order) but they were all VERY different. Don't know what you're on about.
Do you actually play jrpgs or just repeat the memes you hear about them?
>JRPG
>force brother who gained the ability to roam freely at his own leisure in the new world back into his wheelchair by destroying the current world you reside in
He probably means shit like, main character has a childhood friend but main character is a dumbass that doesnt understand her love for him. There is some adult that is a the badass of the group, most of the time some experience warrior/soldier that gave up from that life for "reasons". Some older female that acts like the mom to them. Another female that has some weird power but her mind is on the moon, sometimes pretty dumb. Some other male that is about the same age of the main character but is a dick with superiority complex until he chills out almost at the end. Some kind of mascot or animal in the group.
Villains are always about armies or some faction of the military of one of the countries, the main villain is actually some ancient evil alien
Who doesn't? Only pretentious brainlets who shun fairytales hate them.
>JRPG
>sacrifice the idealistic life of yourself and the ones close to you in order to save the general populace from a world ruled by a mad power-hungry monarch and those who've been transformed into monsters
Me too
Over pretentious plot's with hundred plot twists are starting to get boring
I just want more nice fairytale-like stories in games
>JRPG
>Church is evil and wants to kill little kids
>JRPG
>you have to kill soul-destroying graffiti monsters using the power of fashion, friendship, and Hot Topic pins
TWEWY was great
>wrpg
>install mods and never play
Fire Emblem 4? Technically it's more of a cult than a real church though.
And that only goes for the second part.
>>wrpg
>>install mods and never play
there is no other way than spending literal days modding shit and then dropping it
>"If we kill the ones responsible for an ongoing genocide, thus putting an end to it, we'll be just like them!"
Name five (5) games where this happens
Holy shit what game?
TicTacs
final fantasy tactics advance does that, the brother of the protagonist is wheelchair-bound in the real world but has the ability to walk in the other world, brother then proceeds to fuck up all the crystals which are basically threads that hold the world together and was even snitched by his own brother to avoid the collapse
>JRPG
>first half of the game awaken 4 seals to save the world
>it was actually a trick and you did exactly what the villian wanted
>you aren't anyone special
>but here comes 6 bagillion different reasons as why you can't die and can somehow kill godlike beings
>jrpg
>party treat the mc like shit and is surprised when he trust the guy he has known for years over them
What an asshole lmao
It's still the best type of fantasy.
>JRPG
>Go to school
Great game, kinda a weak way to open things up.
I love crystals and minerals
What are some essential crystal and mineral-core games
>JRPG
>a killer cyborg brother and alien fish sister are in conflict and your actions lead to the horrible death of either one or the other
anime?
>JRPG
>the plot is minimal
>all the focus is on exploration
Dragon's Dogma?
>jrpg
>mc is a literal manchild
Etrian Odyssey
Eh, I do enjoy a good FPS, but there are pretty much no good titles right now and you have to pretty fucking autistic to continuously enjoy only one type of game and not break it off with some variety. I like creating parties with various builds and equipment, and it's even better when it's genuinely tactical shit like Shining Force 2.
I actually know a guy who dropped the game because he literally thought that was the game.
>JRPG
>mandatory male MC ends up touching the female MC involuntarily and gets slapped scene
yea it gets even funnier the 150th time I see it
Do they gotta be JRPG's?
>It's a chosen one story
>It's not about how the Chosen One actually had a pretty good life which gets significantly worse the deeper he fulfills his prophecy
Final Fantasy XIII kinda touched on it, but not really, and it dealt more with apocalyptic type of event.
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Persona 5
Shin Megami Tensei
Oni
Rosenkreuzstilette
Final Fantasy XIII-2
Ikemen Sengoku
Play Tales of Symphonia
I loved one skit in Tales of Symphonia regarding that, where there's this character Regal who is wearing chains as a sign of his guilt over dead person for death of which he blames himself. So, when asked main party was like "so what, we're all killers here", I am paraphrasing, but that's what it bottomed down to.
>Symphonia hints that regals boxxing skills are limit break tier compared to his kicks
>He never sheds his chains and metaphysical chains of bondage
Tales of Symphonia is different though, the "prophecy" was a plot with very clear antagonist, whereas what I am talking about is truly just a natural force of good that will definitely lead to something good, but main character gets worse off it. I think it's interesting to deal with prophecy as something that is legitimately a natural force, what I have in my head like imagine main character actually does a despicable act that in no way should lead him to fulfilling his prophecy like kill literally just a random person, but because his prophecy of saving world is actually a tangible force it still does it, no matter what he does he fulfills his prophecy. Can you imagine how fucked up morality of a person would become if literally anything he does nature dictates so is for genuine greater good?
>JRPG
>you shove the magic crystals up your ass so the dark lord can't ever get them
Fuck the Abyss cast, they were way off base with that shit
Zelos is kinda like that tho
> WRPG
> learn the magic words to make the clear-cut antagonist you were informed about half an hour into the plot mortal, then kill him
> persona 5
> "If we kill a murderer, we'll be just like them!"
In what fucking universe?
>Turns out the real bad guy is this evil dragon god emperor
>this twist happens right before the final boss.
It's still different, there's some fuckery about his mom going crazy and Zelos's lack of self-worth and etc. I get what you are saying, it's just not exactly what I am saying, Zelos still grew up following set of rules of Tethe'alla and he grew up as a fairly reasonable dude, but his misfortunes came from the fact that everyone were adhering to those rules thinking they are absolute truth when they weren't. What I am talking about is the opposite, it's more like the set in stone rules don't apply to MC because prophecy as a force of nature does it so he can do no wrong.
>JRPG
>Seek Paleblood to transcend the hunt
2003 > brotherhood
This kind of plot is really funny when the protagonists pretty much murdered anyone standing in their way to reach the bad guy, specially if the opposition is a neutral party.
>JRPG
>party member was forced to eat her beloved dead sister's corpse by her mindbroken father and then forced to act like and dress like her
Why do JRPGs keep doing this?
>Kills thousands of mooks to get to the final boss
>If we kill him we'll be just like him
But Persona 5 is different.
> Kills thousands of mooks explicitly demonstrated to not be people
> OBVIOUSLY still has issues with killing by the endgame

Okay, but one name one game that does it AND it isn't Neptunia garbage.
Even the shittiest and most weeb Atelier and Idolmaster are better than Xenoblade 2.
Hmmm? Are you saying you won't do it? You're so mean user! I thought we could've been friends!

name several games that do this outside of Xenoblade
It’s a really important element of norse mythology, of course it is popular
>just kidding you did everything so that makes you the chosen one by default!
the entire Dragon Quest series features yggdrasil as something of varying importance, sometimes core to the games plot, other times peripheral.
>JRPG
>past sounds like a way better story and setting for a game then the current game your playing refrencing it.
Such a shit game
Breath of Fire
feel free to play Dragon Quest III any time
>In fact literally everyone else is more Chosen than you
Based
Symphonia
Tales of Symphonia/Phantasia
Breath of Fire 3
Dragon Quest XI
Wild Arms 3
That's a theme definitive of Final Fantasy, so I'm assuming the only JRPGs you've played are FF and games that are intentionally similar to FF like Bravely Default.
>Church is evil and wants to fuck little kids
any Dragon Quest game
Valkyrie Profile
your entire party is of severe mentally ill people in that game. kind of cool
>JRPG
>Enemy who ends up a permanent party member has none of the skills he used when fighting you
Wild Arms 3
>JRPG
>have a friend who turns out to be a criminal douchebag
>spend entire sequel chasing after him, hoping to bring him to reason
>Okay, but one name one game that does it AND it isn't Neptunia garbage.
Xenoblade 2. I don't know how people can compare XB2 to Neptunia with a straight face when XB2 was intended to to invoke the style of 90s shonen like KO Beast/El Hazard/Nadia and JRPGs like Lunar/Xenogears/Skies of Arcadia.
Best part about Xenoblade's Yggdrasil was that it's just an ancient manmade space elevator from the 21st century covered in natural overgrowth and Ether and only mistaken to be a tree countless thousands of years later. I didn't expect it to have a mechanical interior guarded by mecha and hostile computers
>JRPG
>Massive plot moment happens and a supporting character becomes the main character for a long-ass time or even the rest of the game
>JRPG
>you literally kill millions
>you're supposed to be the good guy
>JRPG
>the empire is good
>the undermining organization/rebels are evil
Kill yourself eric
Nothing in Lunar/Xenogears/Skies of Arcadia is ever as trashy as Chapter 4 or that stupid Mythra and Kora dance scene.
who is this semen demon, she cute
>tfw have been looking for a game that has this
>cant ask what game or I will get spoiled
What do bros?
>characters leaves or dies
>lose all equipment and items they had
>main character is a manlet
>mfw slowly realizing it was tower from the first game and Alrest was the original Earth all along
Last couple hours of Xenoblade 2 are a fucking ride holy fuck
>"friend" is a worse war criminal than nips during WW2
>gets forgiven and gets away with everything with barely any punishment because of the protagonist' homolust for him
>she
Chapter 4 is literally 1970s mecha fanservice from beginning to end.
Xenogears has many scenes that's specifically 1970s mecha fanservice too.
>replay the game
>know his death is coming and take all the items and equipment away beforehand
>death cutscene is ruined by said character being naked
>she
Now this is one I can agree with, I'm only averagw height in the west, but I don't think a singke jrpg protag has been taller or even as tall as me.
>XB2 was intended to to invoke the style of 90s shonen
That is such a fanboyish way to say that its trash.
Play an XCOM game
>Chapter 4 is literally 1970s mecha fanservice from beginning to end.
So, shit cartoons from a bad era of animation? Yeah, that's definitely something worth reminiscing about.
>JRPG
>Destroy these rogue AIs that are harming players inside this MMO while trying to find who put your girlfriend in a coma.
this still makes me giggle everytime.
>hey bro, its not right, you SHOULD be a cripple
Chapter 4 is Mazinger/Getter Robot/Kamen Rider/Super Sentai worship
The Elements in Xenogears largely existed to be the punchline to a old school toku/mecha joke but with cute girls.
>character is depicted as the tall guy
>everyone jokes about him being a giant
>his considerable height is brought up all the fucking time
>character chart is released
>he is like 172cm tall
>still bringing up a cherry picked scene that he makes sound worse than it is and is not seen by 90% of the people who played the game
Kill yourself Eric.
>Xenoblade remembers what armor you had equipped at different points in the game for flashbacks
>mfw Shulk's emotional flashback of sitting with Fiora was ruined because she was in her underwear at the time
I can name two games that do this:
>Kiseki
>Xenoblade 2
But I KNOW that I've seen this very scene at least a million times more. Anyone else adding to it?
I remember Xenoblade 1 having a similar scene but its not quite the same trope since Shulk didn't fall over or anything and they just tried to help her.
>JRPG
>You absolutely adores how cheesy and hammy it can be but pretend to only like realistic videogames because you're afraid of being judged, as it is super easy to be called a weeb if you ever admit to liking a japanese thing.
>Japanese """humor"""
Yeah, they always look tall compared to the rest and then you see a height chart and by "Tall" they mean "Tall by japanese standards".
Imagine being this much of a faggot.
People here are going to call you a loser no matter what you like. Grow a spine and admit you like what you like.
>see enemy appear during the flash after clicking load new area
>load into new area dead
blyat
>Anyone else adding to it?
>JRPG
>the protagonist and everyone in his city is a robot but he just never noticed until his arm fell off
>oh yeah what are these japanese things
>well panty simulator, rapelay, sniffing loli simulator...
That was actually a fucking rad twist in xenoblade chronicles x. Too bad that and the last chapter were the only good parts of the story.
>sniffing loli simulator...
Listen fucker if this is a real thing you better fucking hand over the source now or so help me god I will use my erection on you instead.
>Your """life"""
>sniffing loli simulator
That doesn't exist and you are a faggot unless you provide an actual game who does that and tell me the easiest way I could get my hands on it.
>tfw you have a unique JRPG setting
>you can't talk about it or someone will steal the idea
fuck i hate this shit.
>XB2 was intended to to invoke the style of 90s shonen like KO Beast/El Hazard/Nadia
>Chapter 4 is Mazinger/Getter Robot/Kamen Rider/Super Sentai worship
Is that the current lingo of defense for XB2?
>its bad on purpose to invoke the style of bad scenes in past anime!
Thats pretty weak. But I've known that the defense force on Yea Forums has by now resorted to posting all kinds of shit, hoping that something will stick.
Don't forget
>poppi's cringe introduction and ongoing maid theme throughout the game including huge maid bot
>Mia anime eyes and catgirl trope scenes
>blushy crushy/moe
>one eyed monster with screen cracking
>etc.
That game was so badly written it wasnt funny anymore(literally). But then again, this is a thread highlighting how terribly formulaic JRPGs are so at least its in good company.
shoot
I mean, which scene do you want instead?
>Jin pulling a literal *teleports behind you* "Nothing personal, kid!"
>Poppi's first activation with the pervy maid robot bullshit
>Mythra's sleepwalking scene
>Fighting Bana while he pilots giant maid robot
>"I can accelerate my body to the speed of light."
>"I love you.. and all you guys!"
The list goes on.
I mean, some stuff is acceptable. Then there's shit like pic related.
Why not say it then? It's not like you're ever going to make a JRPG. May as well put it out there so you can see your "unique setting" realized instead of bitching everything is generic you fucking dweeb.
>that he makes sound worse than it is
I've seen it and it really is on point with how bad it is. And that isn't even the cringiest moment in that cringefest of a game...
i was gonna say Lunar, but Emperor shows himself like way earlier.
>JRPG
>If humanity ever reaches the point where we take robotic forms and cast off our flesh, becoming able to adjust our physical appearance, sex and gender at our discretion, will we still be able to call ourselves "human?" Could we even be said to still have souls if we can transfer them at will?
>LOL idk let's eat the mascot
yeah, but this was fucking 1998 and out and out SAYING that they did that shit was amazing that we even GOT XG in the first place.
>Jin pulling a literal *teleports behind you* "Nothing personal, kid!"
Dororo (1969) reference
>Poppi's first activation with the pervy maid robot bullshit
Astro Boy reference
>Mythra's sleepwalking scene
Dragon Ball reference

Saint Seiya reference.
>"I love you.. and all you guys!"
Magic Knight Rayearth reference.
Kill yourself.
Samefag.
This guy gets it.
>it's a reference so it's okay if it's cringey as fuck
kys
And not a single good show on your list. Surprise, surprise.
well, most of what you are "killing" are bad guys
and the golden rule, don't forget, is that:
IF IT HAPPENS OUTSIDE OF BATTLE, ITS PERMANENT.
Galuf? dead
Aries? dead
Zelos? dead
etc etc etc
remember, dying IN BATTLE is just being knocked out! for your party AND the enemies.
Nice thread guys it was good until the xenofags showed up
Well except that one time with Galuf fighting with 0 HP because fuck you that's why.
Galuf's permanent death is completely justified in-universe tho. He pushed himself so hard to the limit that there's not much left to bring back.
Japanese people are short
Is there something I’m not getting here? Only Mythra’s scene is remotely bad here. Why do they bother you?
They've done this for a while though.
Notice how he posted a xenogears image? That is also part of the stage they're in.
It went like this
>Tier 1: denial
Back when they just tried to say that it ain't shit and that there's literally nothing wrong with any of the over the top anime shit.
Then the insecurity about past Xeno games set in because people (rightfully) said that its the worst blade title so far, dumbing down and removing a lot of mechanics.
>Tier 2: mirroring
Thats when they started making counter collages and counter images. So everytime someone pointed out how bad the shit in XB2 is,they would post those and say "LOOK XENOGEARS WAS ANIME TOO!" often calling said posters secondaries. Same went for people calling out the blatant tits focus, like the camera literally zooming in on Pyra's tits with everything else being out of focus. So they dug up a random Xenosaga pic where the camera shows a butt. Or a cooking scene from X.
Problem was, people didn't give a shit. They still said that XB2 was the worst an terrible in its scenes and direction.
>Tier 3: denial 2.0
That's where we are currently, and which started the "its all just a homage/reference" nonsense due to one line from an interview in which he talks about old franchises, because they ran out of ideas in their daily waifu threads.
Now the XB2 fans are practically on autopilot, and go through all three tiers the moment you criticize the game, since they don't know which group(of many) you belong to.
You could be a Xenogears/blade1 fan, which is why they post old pictures.
You could be a newcomer, which is why they post the referencial bullshit or deny that "it aint so bad actually" etc etc.
Its hilarious to see. Especially when they throw in the name Eric. As if the game isnt widely shunned outside of Yea Forums due to all that stuff.
Because people are incredibly insecure about japanese games being "too anime"
>that dead inside look
I seriously hope you're joking.
Because they're tripe and trashy? Maid robots are trashy. Edgy, droning katana wielders are trashy. Bizarre anime powers and weapons are also trashy.
So you hate JRPGs?
Not him but I literally dropped the game due to that shit.
It was making me throw up inside.
Granted, I dont play many JRPGs but this game reminded my why I dont play many of them.
For me most of it was bad.
The writing was just generic, and every joke some bullshit superficial character moment with funny eye shapes.
No thank you.
how does this compare to mahoujin guruguru?
maybe he just hates the bad ones.
you know, like xb2
I don't get it. Isn't Xenogears a weeb game? What's the problem with a weeb game having weeb tropes?
Or do they fans try to claim it's not a weeb game?
The only bad JRPG trope is the obligatory pointless fucking mascot literally nobody likes.
The people who constantly rip on Xenoblade 2 do it because it's the best-selling game in the series; they haven't touched previous Xeno games or else they'd know X was even more fanservicey and obnoxious with its tropes while Saga's fanservice was much more extreme.
Xenogears is also written like a 16 year old's Evangelion/Gundam 79 fanfiction.
There is a game on gamecube that does this. But yeah I can see your dilemma.
Maid robots are fun, the katana weilding villain using his katana is fun, bizarre anime powers are also fun.
>and every joke some bullshit superficial character moment with funny eye shapes.
Didn’t that only happen once?
Either way, I genuinely don’t get the vitriol over this. Even the weird comedy is just goofy shit you can smile at and move on. Like I can understand if it’s not to your taste, but getting this bothered by it?
I'm just tired of all the fan service pandering and rule of cool bullshit thrown in for shits and giggles. I'm okay with JRPGs as a mechanical genre and I like some of the more whimsical, fantasy-centric stories of individual games, but there's a LOT of YA fiction-tier trash in the genre that I've gotten tired of over the years.
>Maid robots are fun, the katana weilding villain using his katana is fun, bizarre anime powers are also fun.
It's not fun. It's tripe. I've seen it a million times and it's become cliched and banal.
Only teens going through the "cringe" phase where they react viscerally to everything get angry about anime.
>RL
>resist the urge to kill yourself until you die of natural causes
counterpoint: Ershin (BOF4) and Riki (XB1)
>JRPG

>main side character is the president of the united states of america
>your goal is to genocide a bunch of backstabbing vermin
>one of the vermin literally rubs his hands together like a jew
Good game
Then don't watch/play it, you fucking autistic faggot.
Who the fuck is forcing you to play those games? It's not like they are subtle about the fact that they are anime-tier fanservice dumb trash.
Yeah almost like most JRPGs are aimed at teenagers and young adults or something
>JRPG
>Demons are largely humanoid in appearance

No, it’s all fun for me. Everything cam be boiled down to repetitve tropes, albeit some more than others. Just play the games you like instead of throwing a fit everytime you force yourself to play something that isn’t for you. Like, how many JRPGs in the past decade even has the robot maid and her furry master storm a factory of other robots to save the father of her master and her sisters from a giant nendoroid piloting evil furry merchant and a scientist conspiring with the main antagonist group? Shits fucking fun, music is great, combat is a good time, world is beautiful. I have no idea why people hate chapter 4.

the round eyes from the maid bot introduction scene, the glaring star eyes from the catgirl and round eyes from the mc during another scene.
I know it might seem like you say, nothing that one should get bothered by.
But the thing is, the humor in this game was really not my thing. So much not my thing that I didnt even smile or at least found it charming and could move on.
It just annoyed me. I found it dumb and superficial, and reminded me about everything terrible I had to endure when my friends tried to get me into anime.
So that was that, and then I didnt like the game much either, so it wasn't a hard decision to stop playing. I mean I only borrowed it from a friend anyway.
Not even on the same level. Guruguru is clever, this shit is just "haha this is how it work in videogame"
>Just play the games you like instead of throwing a fit everytime you force yourself to play something that isn’t for you
Wait, who said he's forcing himself?
He's just saying that this ain't for him. He's doing exactly what you ask him to, except for also voicing why he chose to play a different game.
Saying "it isnt for you" is a bad argument when people exactly pinpoint their issues with a game.
Personally I didnt only hate chapter 4. I made it to REx village and then quit.
>JRPG thread
>XB2 defense force derails it because they still cannot handle people calling their game out
lmao
>Final Fantasy XIII-2
Noel didn't refuse to kill Caius because he was a murderer, he refused to kill Caius because he was his former friend and had the heart of Etro (and therefore the heart of the universe). Killing him would destroy the world (as we so plainly see when he died anyways).
>(You), MC swordman with a dark past/cursed power/chosen one
Obvious choice. Pick.
>Chikita, childhood friend girl
Probably some shit character that was only useful to get through the tutorial. Skip.
>Mojito, nomad from (cardinal point) lands
Either a midly useful character or another fag who became useless after the first few levels. Just in case, skip.
>Mascot, complimentary small animal guide
Shit, only there to sell shitty toys and try to drawn in little children. Skip.
>Iwo, You's rival.
Actually competent character who is probably the closest to the MC in terms of how useful he is. Pick.
>Yui, tomboy
Too little information but based on the fact that her main trait is being a tomboy. I'll bet she is useless. Skip.
>Ultrazazel, villain joining your party
Probably some nigger who was uber-powerful as an enemy but got gimped hard once he joined the party. Skip.
>Daisy, magic nerd girl
An actually capable version of Chikita or at the very least a character that brings much needed variety to the party. Pick.
>Vasistas, duellist
Duellists are a meme class. Skip.
>Hegel, You's master
Sounds like a powerful character that you only get later into the story. Pick.
>Hansen, knight
>Rori, 20000 yo girl somehow looking like a little girl, Hansen's best friend
These two are the only ones left, they probably work well together and 2000 yo old lolis are usally really powerful. Pick.
So basically
