Hey Yea Forums

Why do you hate CRPGs?

Simple as

fuck party based rpgs

I hate walls of text. In JRPGs, it was shorter boxes of text and the character might move around and do something. CRPGs are like watching two fags on F-list.

I hate wojakniggers like you.

i hate you too

I love CRPGs i dump at least 100 hours into each one i play, that being said i detest RTwP combat, i prefer fallout 1&2 and its clones. currently 60 hours in this, i'm OP as fuck from doing all the side quests and getting a little bored one shotting everything with a shotty.

Attached: DxhmqVRWwAASF10.jpg (1200x675, 143K)

how do we save CRPGs?

Gameplay is shit and impersonal.

DnD is retarded. Otherwise RPGs are ok.

Did you get the car yet?

More roleplaying, more in depth combat like larian is doing, more and better puzzles. Skill checks. Build variety and turn based combat.

I have 30k communist fun money right now and can buy one but i also have a quest to help the commander in the first town repair one. I'm going to help him repair it because this game loves throwing unexpected branching quests at you. This is assuming he's going to give me the car anyway.

Been playing Pathfinder Kingmaker.
Having a blast.

>no gameplay

>illusion of choice that never matters
>terrible writing

This is now a crpg favourites thread

Divinity OS2
PoE
Shadowrun Dragonfall
Baldurs gate 1

I know I havent played many but I do enjoy them.. when im in the mood for them theres nothing better.

Think im going to play BG2 next or buy pathfinder or tyranny

>I'm going to help him repair it because this game loves throwing unexpected branching quests at you
That's one of the things I like about ATOM.
Some sidequests are silly like that sewer guy
Others are touching like the one where you hunt the village murderer

I don't. They're pretty alright. I do hope that BG3 does well. After Sword Coast Legends sank without a ripple, Wizards stopped caring about cRPGs and just stuck with mobile idle game stuff. Hopefully Larian convinces them that making full games is worth the time and money.

Attached: 1530285442769.gif (640x400, 34K)

What are you liking about it specifically? hows the atmosphere m8?

im tempted to buy it it looks pretty good.. what other crpgs are in your top5?

For being an offshoot jank indie game it has some fantastic writing and music. The jokes don't fall flat and some quests like the one where you need to find the three brothers at the farm for dan are legitimately anger and depression inducing. Tbh i'm starting to like this game more than fallout 2 and underrail which i'm hardpressed to say but everything but the combat is 10/10.

Attached: 13362.jpg (700x400, 56K)

too much text
too little gameplay

Someone told me not to buy it if i hate real time crpg combat so i spent my money on other things, i'm starting to regret it.

Why do people play single player games for gameplay? LOL

The best gameplay is within MP games and it's not even a contest

Why do you hate reading other than it hurts your troglodyte mind?

low iq post

its literally tru tho

you cant beat playing against, competing against or cooperating with other humans

single player AI and mechanics cant even touch a bog standard multiplayer game.

SP games are for narrative only

>too much text
>calls others low iq
Like pottery

Less linear shit like divinity original sin
Less CHOSEN ONE shit let me roleplay

More roleplay options

Enemy respawns and patrols. FUCK Larion and their finite encounter shit

Make enemies meaningful and drop thing beyond wolf pelt of faggotry+3

Open up the world. This is the on genre where it works. Stop fucking railroading me

My favorites are Arcanum, Planescape: Torment, Jagged Alliance 2, ATOM RPG, and Baldur's Gate 2

I've played some other cRPGs but I just can't get into NWN1/2. The controls and camera are just too clunky for me.

I like these suggestions

any games that come close to what you want? one hour left of the steam sale cmon son give some recommendations

i agree with everything but enemy respawns. Finite mobs are an excellent way to regulate how much exp you get to gate off end game areas and gear and create a more balanced game but making it more unbalanced. Would you rather have scaling enemy bullshit? These aren't jrpgs where you can grind your way to victory and i prefer it that way.

Isn't it just point and click, and moving the mouse to the edge of the screen to rotate the camera?

Not him but underrail is an obvious choice.

>where you need to find the three brothers at the farm for dan are legitimately anger and depression inducing
There's also that pizzagate quest that's even more anger inducing, it was almost at the same level as that Arcanum gnome quests.

>There's also that pizzagate quest that's even more anger inducing
Which one was that?

Im looking too friend. Wish i knew

Maybe have defeated mobs give significantly less xp? For me it just made no sense that areas literally become useless/devoid of life because you killed the only 2 bandits that lived there.

fuck it

im buying kingmaker

I forgot how it was, I just remember that there's some camera movement that I wanted, which was present in modern games, but wasn't in NWN.

>no ebin online pvp for zoomers to watch streams of
>no anime tiddies for weebs to fap to
there you go

The barbecue sidequest. You get it from the mailman in Krasnoznammeny

I want an rpg where my character has a home

is that so hard to find? kingdom come deliverance it added so much to the game imo but such a simple thing

It makes even less sense repeatedly killing the same goons in the same cave over and over every few hours. Fallout 2 does it well where when you travel there's random encounters and at places of interest it's finite. It's still shit farming guys over and over to collect money or exp to overcome a challenge rather than being creative, using the tools the game gives you and thinking your way through hard fights. Or the sense of progression the comes with not being able to clear out an area, then returning later with that enchanted sword or minigun and power armor, new ability or perk that allows you to wreck them.

Ah i started that and haven't finished it yet, i'll have to focus on it. It just reminded me of this so i didn't bother, wasn't in the mood for nonsense.

Turn based is superior in every way, fag.

jrpg shit doesn't count since the writing is at fifth grader vocabulary lvl

It's funny because having to constantly pause to asses the situation is way more ADHD leaning behavior than just being patient with regular turn based combat. It's even funnier since your also projecting your sense of ADHD like everyone else alt tabs when playing turn based games.

Nice!
>Three new weapons types
>one psi ability
Damn, i'll still play it but fuck after 250 hours i'm burnt out, needed a little more than that desu.

Underrail.

I need some tips/ideas for my 4 man party for beneath of the stolen lands playthrough
So far I've though
>Witch, no idea how they play but I think they're as good as wizards at CC
>Cleric, reach weapon fighting from behind the frontline and focusing on summons. (Maybe make this a monster tactician instead and have the 4th party member a druid)
>Slayer, dual wielding since free DW feats, high bab and sneak attack dice is just too good to pass up
> ??

I only pause at the beginning to asses how to initiate attack and do buffs. Literally no one who has played more than two crpgs uses pause mid combat.
Only TB fags need 30 minute long combat sequences because they can't pay attention and have to recollect their thoughts every turn like zoomers they are

im intrigued.. say some nice things about it please

>decided to try Pillars of Eternity
>all stats are ridiculously homogenized and clearly cater to casuals, casting is shit, martials are mostly insanely boring, tons of idiotic restrictions everywhere like the lack of prebuffing, awfully grey and dull setting that tries to stay serious and gloomy all the time and completely misses the charm of old IE games
>decided to try DivOS2
>everything regarding base stats and character building is UTTER ass, everything is governed by 5% increases, talents are overcasualized and uninteresting, level scaling random loot utterly destroys itemization, there's the worst initiative system out of any RPG i've ever seen, armour system is butt fucking retarded and makes every encounter painfully schematic
>decided to try slav RPGs like Kingmaker, Underrail and ATOM
>had an absolute, non-stop blast almost as if i've managed to return to the glory days of IE games

Owlcat should've been responsible for BG3.

>having above geriatric reaction times is ADHD

the ADHD fags have lived long enough that they forgot about their own illness and push it on to others

Attached: wl.jpg (552x414, 44K)

It sucks your soul away as you cilmb the learning curve mountain and figure out how to break the game the game never breaks only bends to win almost impossible fights. Excellent writing and combat, loads of dialog options with a nice world and lore. The player character is also amusing.

We are talking about crpgs you
I always play on hardest difficulty. Try beating ToB with Ascension and SCS like I did fag.
its not like difficulty matters in your shitty turn based games

TB-fags need the game to hold their hand and tell them when they can play

this sounds like my kind of doomer game

thanks m8

It's a CRPG about megacorporations, oligarchs, psi wizards, space conquerer tier aliens, lovecraftian cults, secret orders and even underground americans that want to voluntarily annex the shit out of your station and gas the peaceful moderate opposition.

Remember to start on normal and oddity to learn the game and actually enjoy yourself. Play on hard if you're a real pipe hitting nigger. Play on dominating if you already have a suicide not written for whatever reason. Crafting is an actual valuable asset and it's good to invest into 2-3 crafting stats. You will fuck up your character so be careful but don't look up guides. Have fun user.

Most CRPGs have poor gameplay and rely on their writing, but very few have writing worth playing the game for.

What makes it poor gameplay? I'd say reflex tests are less interesting than logic puzzles.

What was the deal with Leandra? Did she turn into a psycho bitch because Zandalor didn't give her his dick?

I got like 80 to 90% of the way through both PoE 1 and 2 but both times just couldnt bring myself to finish them. Same with DoS and DoS 2. The only one I think is shit is DoS 2 but with the other ones I just got bored. The story just kind of falls flat and the combat is never enough late game to keep me interested.

Not him, but the atmosphere is fairly standard western. A bit of a difference that the enemy isn't devils or undead but fey (woods people). Curses are a central theme.
Your PC quickly becomes baron then king, there's a fair bit of being treated like a ruler instead of a murderhobo.

When it comes to crpgs, you don't have many options nowadays. When it comes to D&D, it's the only one since NWN2 which was what, a decade ago? If you liked NWN2's system, you're good with this one as Pathfinder is very similar to D&D 3.5

WTF

He's already dead, isn't he?

How are they so based bros? The CRPG scene has been stuck in the 90s, while DOS actually has fresh look and gameplay. Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, Pathfinder, Torment and all other "modern" crpgs look like a complete joke next to DOS games. The OP image is 100% accurate. Larianchads dabbed on Obsidian and all other crpg devs.

there's a constant diablo 2 general, and brutal doom/2016 faggotry eat shit

I never really cared for any of those games. DOS sucks shit through a straw and I never cared for PoE, T*ranny, Pathfinder or that god awful Torment game either.

you can choose to give away your chosen one status in OS2 though

Most crpgs are complete shit because they cant stop jerking off about baldurs gate and blindly try to emulate it when it wasn't even good in the first place, like obsidian who fucked up so bad they had to be bought out by Microsoft.
rtwp is fucking horrible and tons of crpgs have it because baldurs gate did. Even if you're playing a crpg for the combat, which you'd have to be an autistic retard whose obsessed with min maxing and have no friends to play actual dnd because of it, rtwp offers nothing over turn based because at high difficulties you'd be playing the game like its turn based anyway but with clunkier controls, otherwise rtwp is mobile tier cookie clicker shit of just right clicking and auto attacking.
Also, the vast majority of crpgs are fucking BORING, not because of the reading but because they don't try to be unique, just like obsidian who made their own IP with PoE where they could do anything with and its the same boring ass flavorless high fantasy setting just like everything else.

for the same reasons... if you'd have paid attention during the last 15 times you posted this.

BG1 is better than whatever meme rpgs you jerk off.

Yea Forums doesn't hate CRPGs. It's just that discussion involving them often turns into shitflinging between RTwPfags and turn based fags, more often than not instigated by turn based fags

Attached: image.jpg (400x449, 41K)

>ENEMYS SHOULD RESPAWN, THATS RETARDED, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GRIND IF I WANT, ONLY RETARDS BELIEVE IN DUMB SHIT LIKE WORLD AND QUEST DESIGN

You're a mouth breathing retard if you don't see how these two things conflict.

But New Vegas is one of my favorite games of all time.

Happy for you, user. When i play Expedition i'll think of you. Hope you have a nice birthday.

We don't. It's usually just people who throw autistic fits over how much they hate RTwP, and feel the need to tell everyone about it.

Fuck off RTwP apologist, your games are shiet.

Owlcat is literally the savior of cRPGs and it's really a pity BG3 went to Larian instead of them.
Sven will without a doubt streamline a ton of shit in the name of mass appeal and muh casual mechanics

Attached: pf jewb.png (800x600, 123K)

I like both systems. But it's always the turn based fags that start shit because you feel the compulsion to scream about how much you hate a system and insult anyone who disagrees.

But user, 5e is an edition designed almost entirely around mass appeal and casual mechanics.

Is it possible for you to discuss CRPGs without starting to rage about RTwP? Like, talking about characters then you go
>YOU KNOW WHAT I HATE? RTwP

Both tb and rtwp fags are idiots

I don't. But older ones are dated and use bad systems like 3.5 or older if that. And newer ones are railroaded and cheaply made.

We need CRPGs with engaging story, radiant AI, interesting situations and a shift in of classes/subclasses/modding tools.

Absolute lies. They're always shitting up rpg threads.

If I want to read, I’ll read a book with more fleshed out writing and a more meaningful, thoughtful narrative.

When I play games, I want to PLAY. Games as a medium are unique in giving the player freedom that isn’t present in movies and books where you’re a bystander. I don’t like it when I’m spending more time watching cutscenes or reading text, because books and movies offer higher quality in that regard. I don’t play video games to experience interactive books and movies.

Exactly. Just play the fucking game. If the system doesn't appeal to you just don't play it. No need to go on an autistic rant about it

We've actually had pretty good CRPGs recently. DOS:II, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Underrail are the ones I've played and enjoyed.
Put some hours into ATOM and it actually seems pretty good but I can't make a judgement yet.

Pathfinder is same old tired shit.

>These aren't jrpgs where you can grind your way to victory and i prefer it that way.
>Implying
In most WRPGs it's worse precisely because they level gate you and force you to clear out your laundry list of available enemies to even the odds given how a single level makes a massive difference, the D:OS games are especially guilty of that, especially 2, these games promote grinding for levels far more than the average JRPG.
>inb4 b...but it's not grinding if it's an optional "quest"
Just to pick Pathfinder as an example, there's about three or four areas in the first act that have nothing but enemies for you to grind on and kill bigger and badder enemies, let alone all those busywork quests made solely to feed you EXP for levelling up.

And you know what the worst part of it all is?
It's that gaining those levels doesn't give you some esoteric new tool that lets you apply some different strategy or approach a situation differently, most of the times you level up so you can just color spray or fireball harder than before, 90% of the game is spent using either the same exact tools ad nauseam or get something that does the same thing but better, D:OS is the same shit, older games like BG and especially Obsidian's shit like NWN games were even fucking worse.

Aren't they?

I didn't until you started making these threads all the time.

>ctrl+f Age of decadente
>no results
You only have yourselves to blame...

>most of the times you level up so you can just color spray or fireball harder than before
You do get different tools as you level.
Some feats or spells or class abilities can make up for new strategies.
Kingmaker at the very least has many combat feats so martials don't just auto attack but I can see where you're coming from.

Don't, he's baiting

Better writing. OS2 was fine but dear god the writing was embarrassing.

That's not what grinding means

Nice pasta you got there

I saw an Alchemist class mod for BG that looked interesting, basically you use shit like potions, bombs, poisons etc. Is there a class like that in 5e?

He won't and you can't buy cars there. That's a thief.

>You do get different tools as you level.
If you're a mage, yes, and chances are you'll still spam basic stuff like maximized color spray most of the time because it's that good, and whether you're using color spray or hold person matters little because the end result is the exact same, shutting down enemies so your martial can wail on them undisturbed.
Still better than the average 3.5 trash like NWN where 99% of magic is useless and martials have even less variety, but that doesn't really change the fact that the game is still incredibly basic, and most CRPGs are, even ToEE as much as I like it is incredibly boring after a couple of hour, and it's one of those rare CRPGs where combat isn't a tedious afterthought too, like Arcanum or Planescape.

And it's not like giving martials some variety ends up being necessarily good either, look at the D:OS games, where you have lots of active tools for martials and the gameplay is even more boring, broken and braindead than Pathfinder.
Like clockwork, and yes, those empty areas in Pathfinder for instance like Old Oak with a bunch of chests and enemies and nothing more are literal grind areas, hell most sidequests in CRPGs in general are there for grinding purposes and nothing more.
>B...But I'm not running around in circles to trigger a random encounter like FF
Same shit, not to mention that you totally can do that too in CRPGs, see the MoTB/SoZ campaigns in NWN2 for instance.

Brainlet here. Recommend me a single-character cRPG other than Fallout or Underrail, or one with simple combat like Shadowrun.

If you consider combat in DOS grindy the games aren't for you. It's easily the most fun part of the game and there's no reason to skip any battles unless you're some kind of ADHD zoomer that skips all dialogue, lore and encounters just to get to the end faster. Also, you don't need to grind for levels or gear, you can beat high level zones with preparation and tactical gameplay.

Personally my problem with DOS2 was the cheesy and uninteresting writing. There was such a large volume of this that I couldn’t fight through a game whose world I wasn’t invested in.

Artificer is the closest thing to that, but the class has been in playtesting for like 3 years and revised multiple times because WotC cant decide what it should be other than forcing a companion/summon into every subclass. Atm it's got a few subclasses, one of which is an Alchemist who gets a homunculus companion.

>If you consider combat in DOS grindy the games aren't for you
D:OS games, especially 2, are literally tuned for grinding since just a single level difference makes a massive difference, 2 is extra bad on that due to the various hidden multipliers when it comes to weapons, which coupled with the broken economy and nonexistent crafting further encourages not just level grind, but money grind as well...if you want to play by the rules and not just abuse the broken ass combat system, which despite what Lariandrones say, it's not intentional in the least.
>there's no reason to skip any battles
Of course there isn't, since you'd purposedly gimp yourself for no reason, hence the grind is even more encouraged despite nobody in their right mind would waste time on the average D:OS battle, which is as braindead as they come.
>you can beat high level zones with preparation and tactical gameplay.
No, you can beat high level zones by abusing absurdly broken spells(many of which are still level gated) and faulty mechanics in general, if you try to play by the rules and actually try to roleplay or fight underlevelled you'll get massively cockblocked, unless of course you play on any other difficulty than Tactician, which doesn't matter because the games are offensively braindead, you might as well watch a Let's Play or read a plot synopsis.

Fallout wasn't single character, was it? I played it long time ago but I'm sure I had followers in that game. Wasn't one of them even Cass' father?

Because they're fucking boring. Shitty college level writing doesn't help too.

>Larian doing Baldur's Gate 3
>it's 5e
>they're going to remove dice rolls because "dice roll failures are not fun in a video game"

>>they're going to remove dice rolls because "dice roll failures are not fun in a video game"
