I've never owned a console in my life and I don't rely on them but ironsights make me feel cool when using them.

>Playing shooters where gunplay isn't built around movement but is instead made worse by it
I chuff at you

You think I give a fucking h*ck about consoles, zoom-zoom?

Operation Flashpoint (a PC exclusive) was the first game to feature both iron-sight and non-iron-sight shooting.

Both Call of Duty 1 and Vietcong (yet again, also PC exclusives) followed this, using a similar scheme.

Even before that, Counter-Strike (also a PC exclusive) heavily incentivized standing still to shoot, "slowing the game down" in the same way iron-sights do. (don't expect to hit literally anything with a rifle while you're moving).

Goldeneye was technically earlier, but its implementation was introduced to avoid limitations of the one analog stick N64 controller, and not to slow the game down for "console audiences".

I don't even know how they help, unless the game has an accuracy bonus for using them.
Most of the time I just stick with the cross hairs.

I should get the option to choose, and my bullets shouldn't stop going straight just because I'm not aiming down my sights.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_sights

This is literally always the case. Unless the barrel of the gun is touching whatever you're shooting at, better pull up iron sights or you ain't hitting shit.

because in games that implements them to be useful your hipfiring accuracy/spread is turned to shit this forces players to ads and as an added effect walks slowly while doing so, which makes it easier for consoles to aim and shoot at each other

The problem is - using ironsights changes weapon stats.

New Vegas

>Even before that, Counter-Strike (also a PC exclusive) heavily incentivized standing still to shoot
only on the later versions (which also nerfed bunnyhop) and even then mostly for rifles
mp5k was still strafeshot king

>game with an entire mechanic for aiming for the player
wow excellent example user.

But consoles literally have aimbot and bullet-magnet, so how can ADS be a crutch catered specifically to them?
Iron sights already look dreadful on most shooters as it is, ADSing with a controller while sitting a couple of meters away from your television with 60*FoV is nothing but window dressing.

>Ironsights are a crutch for consolebabbies. Prove me wrong.

Ironsights make it so you don't need an ugly crosshair on the screen. It's better for minimalist UIs, which I prefer. Ideally I'd have no UI at all. The gun already has sights on it, no need for crosshairs. Also, having to stop to shoot accurately makes gameplay more tactical because you can't just jump around and rely on twitch muscle memory.

What's wrong with only being able to hit things that you're aiming at?

Fuck you nigger. IT'S REALISTIC

Shut up you fat retard.

problem is devs are too lazy/incompetent to simulate actual recoil so they do this silly rng spread as a substitute. Realistic recoil would also make too hard for consolebabs

Should only be used with snipers or bolt action rifles, other then that yes, shitty mechanic

no the crutch is the auto-aim

>simulate actual recoil
How could these leftist fucks ever hope to do such a thing, when their closest firearm experience basically boils down to reading the article about that journo who got "a temporary case of PTSD" from firing a gun at the range? They're taken right from college(WOOH MORE LEFTISTS)and put straight into work for shit pay, lured in by management with crap like work experience and "le ebin famous brand for your resume".

Is it a shitty "mechanic" in every shooter?

What's the difference between guns being pinpoint accurate and being pinpoint accurate with the gun held up to your view

because every single shooter, regardless of genre needs to have the players zooming across the map you filthy casual

>play vr
>get pestol
>take advantage of ironsight
>it doesnt work
???

I'm not a /k/ommando for stating facts. I know jack shit about guns myself apart from watching ForgottenWeapons.
In fact, dare I say that alone makes me more qualified than 70% of devs out there, which is pretty fucking pathetic. They just buy/copy premade assets, slap hitscan on them and call it a day. Fuck them.

What's that?

Some military apparatus retards who unironically want to die for Israel use.

I remember going into my local EB to pickup my stalker pre-order, the staff member was talking to some dudes about flashpoint (which was like 7 years old by that point) and they had no idea, the staff guy went to get my game, came back and said I bet you know it. I was like yeah, I bought it from this shop actually. I still have the stalker box and flashpoint might be around somewhere.
>that was 12 years ago.
fuck.

Not all shooters are aderal tier arena autism, games with a higher emphasis on simulation need them and they make sense since very few peoples actually shoot while moving irl because it's fucking useless.

>Back in 1.3 crouching actually lifted you off the ground and dropped you to the ground if you spammed it which threw off your accuracy a great deal, same with jumping
Your accuracy was spread while strafing too but not by much and the only thing slowing you down would be the damage you've taken.

>Friend bought me that recent CoD game with king of the hill just to bribe me to play with him
Everybody runs like they're a moped, it's ridiculous and you just press X to refill your health. Run away and come back full health.

How the fuck is shooting while moving useless? Most modern infantry scenarios require you to advance so fast that you're rarely in the same spot for even half a minute.

Iron sights are for luddites and hipsters who desire nothing more than losing and getting shot.

A non-magnified reflex optic is the aiming device of the true gentleman.
