GW2 or FFXIV

I posted a thread about an MMO to dabble into (just experience it, don't wanna reach the end game and stuff)
Based on the suggestions, I narrowed it between GW2 (which is free) and FFXIV (b2p+sub, but heard a lot of good things)

What's your opinion on these two?

Do you want something more open and action oriented and/or SJW shit? GW2
Do you want a slow, traditional MMO and/or insufferable weebshit? FFXIV
I've recently went back to GW2 and have been having a blast with it. For the most part the community is great (if you avoid the toxic SJW nonsense) and you have more freedom to fuck around.

If you enjoy instanced content and raids then go for FFXIV.Other than that it plays like a single-player game and the open world is devoid of actual people since everyone just queues for content.Has a decent story for a MMORPG.PvP is garbage.
GW2 has a more active open world but it's mostly zerging whereas its instanced content isn't as rich as FF but it's still good.Has RvR type pvp(called world versus world) with big zerg clashing and a really good structured PvP that outside of people that have invested enough time and are still playing will never fully understand.
I'd go with GW2 for now because you get to experience everything quite fast and never have to worry for your igear level every new patch and expansion. If you also buy the expansions there's a lot of content for you to enjoy. Not to mention you have to get through the vanilla story of FFXIV to progress which is a slog.

isnt there a free trial for both? play them and decide for yourself. or look up videos of endgame and see which one looks better.

>a slow, traditional MMO
>FFXIV
Was Cataclysm your first MMO you dumb faggot?

Attached: 1539835710734.jpg (1200x1309, 84K)

FFXIV is a huge time investment and you have to do a 100h+ storyline just to reach the first expansion unless you buy boosters and shit.

I'd just try out GW2. If you enjoy it enough, get the expansions at level 80 because the content there is way beyond anything in the vanilla game.

FFXIV has easily the worst low-mid level experience of any game I've ever played. It's inexcusably bad and the devs were clearly on drugs/retarded when they were developing it. I've heard the higher level stuff is fun, but I'm not spending 100+ hours doing only fetch quests to beat the campaign.

I'm just waiting for when I can play as a bunny girl in xiv

Don't go xiv unless you plan to reach and play the end game.

>GW2 (which is free)
I didn't know this. I figured it was still pay to play. Is it worth looking into? It even has a necro class.

bin both and install ESO

Attached: 1438512486265.gif (465x280, 2M)

Vanilla game is super limited, and necro was one of the worst classes on launch.
I'd say it's worth looking into, though

the base game is kinda shit, the story and leveling isn't too good. the two expansions however are pretty dang good, but obviously you have to pay for them. it's definitely worth a try though, some stuff like pvp and wvw are gonna be fun even on f2p accounts

You still have to pay for the expansions, and if you're a f2p player there are limitations on your account, especially the earliest levels (to prevent botting spammers). It's still playable though.

Also, necromancer is not very good in GW2. It has a poor moveset and it's nowhere near its GW1 counterpart.

gw2 is f2p but you pay for the expansions while ff14 lets you get to lvl 30 in every class and then asks for money

Nobody cares about your everquest and vanilla wow garbage, this isn't a contest of who has the fattest, hairiest double chin

The point is that it's not a "slow", "traditional" MMO you double nigger. It's just a WoW clone

Guild Wars 2 will be the better experience if you just want to try the genre out and don't plan to stick with it.

FFXIV needs you to stick with it especially in its current state since the 1-50 leveling experience is awful thanks to the skill crunch in the latest expansion.

Alright, so it's still pay to play for the real thing. I thought it had gone full f2p.
Still, I know what I'm doing tonight, thanks friends.

GW2 was pretty fun. I like a lot of open world activities anyone can join in on and there is always something going on.

I just tried to get into FFXIV, holy shit it’s so boring. 20hours in and all I’ve done are fetch quests or kill X amounts of Y monsters. Story is unengaging too

Seems like FFXIV is time sink. Then I'll get into GW2.
Any beginner tips for that game?

>mmo is time sink
no shit?

Wasn't that like the blandest MMO?

Don't pick necromancer, engineer or mesmer if you're into pve. They are all tedious as fuck to play.
Engineer can be fun if you REALLY like pressing a lot of buttons, but generally takes a lot of effort to do what other classes do more easily.
Mesmer is good at high end pve content, but requires a fuckton of gold and game knowledge to be useful. And it's the slowest class to level up and is generally not fun when you're solo.
Necromancer is just boring unless you really love the theme of the class, and no one wants a necromancer in their dungeon group.

Don't think of GW2 as an MMO. It's a decent single player RPG that happens to have other players int he same world. Go for FFXIV if you really want to party with people.

This.

Gw2 has you engaged more often and earlier. Even if you decide to just skip the story quests, you really just play how you prefer.

Ff14 relies on the story to push you into different areas or hubs that give you fetch quests and kill X of Y monsters. The combat is slow due to the built in 3 second GCD so often times you find yourself pressing a button and waiting, especially early on. Endgame is supposedly much better and faster bc there’s more synergy with abilities and players but the barrier to entry is the required story quests before you can even access new content. Imagine if you were forced to do outlands quests Before northrend before maelstrom etc... instead of just go w/e u want that is level appropriate like in GW2

ffxiv trial level cap is 35 but yeah you're right.

Pretend that FFXIV is a single player game with mercs you hire out occasionally. The game is best played if you ignore other people.

I played FFXIV for 150 hours and the ONLY times I interacted with other people was when the game forced me into dungeons. I've interacted with players way more in GW2, even though it's not really mandatory.

how much has gw2 improved since it came out? if i thought it was pure trash and one of the worst mmos on the market then could i enjoy it now?

your server must be shit then because on mines there's at least 100+ people talking at all times in NN chat channel.

It got slightly better briefly, and now it's unredeemable dogshit again.

It has improved a lot with the expansions, but it you really hated it before I don't know if they'd change your mind. But if you got the time and money it could be worth a try.

it actually is worse than on release no joke

All MMOs are time sinks retard.

I play FFXIV, GW2 and ESO and have reached endgame in all 3. I like XIV for casual play, crafting and character dressup. Gw2 I use for map completion and collection autism. ESO is my most played for build variety, theorycrafting and content to do. It's not too deep either, but there's a lot to do thats puddle deep which okay with me. Helps that I like TES lore.

With ESO, is it similar to SWTOR where you need a subscription to unlock the expansions, or can you buy them one off and enjoy them sub free?

I played a lot gw2 around 1k hours and I'm enjoying ffxiv a lot more now than I ever did enjoy gw2.

FFXIV is pretty cool if you join a server with an active Novice Network.

Attached: ffxiv_03232019_220850_239.png (1920x1080, 3.65M)

If youre subbed, all dlc excluding the expansions are free. It tries to play off as a b2p game but it really is more like a sub based game for sure.

I'm not going to pay a sub fee for a single player game

Nomura is working on FFXIV as well

Attached: 1553089476694.png (650x1037, 490K)

>GW2 has [...] a really good structured PvP
You mean an imbalanced mess that's been more and more unplayable since the first expansion and is now mostly populated by bots?
Necro is essentially the "I solo instanced content" class in vanilla.
>the two expansions however are pretty dang good
The story is complete shit and the devs dropped support towards any kind of competitive mode until NCSoft told them to get their shit together.

>imbalanced mess
There's not a single MMORPG that has a fully balanced scene. And both expansions revitalized the gamemode with fresh builds even if broken ones emerged.

You made ESO sound interesting.

If you choose the F2P way pick guardian or warrior. Both are fairly tanky and do well in most cases even if they can't be meta.I'd advice you to ignore heart quests or do them if there's a dynamic event going on so you finish them both.Explore as much as possible and get as many waypoints as you can.Try joining a guild it will help immensely and the vast majority of people are really helpful.

Guild Wars 2 is more sandbox/do stuff for "fun", not really on rails progression (really none at all).
FFXIV is more WoW on rails progression, get your ilvl up or whatever they call it in xiv. Has more sandbox elements than WoW. Other stuff to do besides "get your ilvl up".

Just play OSRS like everyone else these days.

Attached: osrs1.png (763x498, 217K)

Lv1-80 is a loooong tutorial. You are essentially fighting easy mode monsters using gimped gear and can't even fully spec your character.
As soon as you reach Lv80 the game opens up but it will probably overwhelm you.

I'd say pick a class, go to PvP area and try to get a feel for the gameplay. In PvP area you're automatically levelled to 80 and can pick a preset build.
As a beginner you may want to try out several classes, f2p accounts have two character slots so knock yourself out.

With the expansions it's a completely different game.Deeper movesets and combos, mounts, raids, viable builds.

A simple way to put it is FFXIV is based more around the endgame, whereas GW2 has literally no endgame.

I just wish maps were populated with people they feel so dead.

GW2 is incredibly aimless and unrewarding but some people like that open-ended thing - though its not a sandbox at all... just, aimless, I don't know how to describe it apart from that. You can buy the "best" gear as soon as you hit cap and never get an upgrade ever again. I think the expansions are more typical with raids and stuff and there is more progression with specs. It has a lot of RP and furries.

FF14 is more focused on progression and stuff. You said you just want to dabble so I honestly don't know what you would get out of it. Its more built like modern WoW where its more focused on instance and gear progression. The main progression gate is main story quests though its never a good story. It has a lot of ERP and furries.

but because you said;
>an MMO to dabble into (just experience it, don't wanna reach the end game and stuff)
I would suggest ESO and SWTOR more, and GW2 to a lesser extent. SWTOR is a silly cartoon star wars to enjoy, ESO chapters like Morrowind play out more like a CRPG and actually has enjoyable quests with VA. GW2 you just wander around grinding levels for no reason and nothing matters and its basically a bit shit.

not all mmos have to be about end game/chasing ilvl

I think it's improved but maybe I'm just addicted to daredevil and holo.

then in that regard FFXIV has a lot more fluff content than GW2.

ff14 has a really long story. So long at this point, since you're getting into it now, that it will take upwards of a week or two to literally bumrush, 12+ hours a day do NOTHING but story, just to catch up. If that sounds appealing to you, to have all that story culminate with a generic weekly grind where you log in, run your dungeons for a few hours, then have nothing to do but level up side classes, then ff14 is for you.
I'v enever played gw2.

Gw2 is also a time sink, theres a bunch of stuff that is time gated

I'd say ilvl and gear progression feels more unrewarding considering new patches or expansions will make it obsolete and you could just buy it or get it from easy dungeons once it releases. It's artificially trying to postpone the inevitable.
I truly enjoyed FFXIV except from stormblood expansion but once you reach endgame you realize all you do is repeat the same content weekly to increase your ilvl and then have it be meaningless with the new content in the future.
At least in GW2 you just have to improve your gameplay to overcome a difficult raid or fractal and not get better gear to surpass DPS check.Too bad new the best skins apart from legendaries can be bought of the gemstore and aren't a reward for challenging content.

endgame is a meme and a reason it's a dying genre.

>You can buy the "best" gear as soon as you hit cap and never get an upgrade ever again
Incorrect. Getting full ascended gear will take you a pretty substantial time. You're just repeating the launch meme of no gear progression.

ehhhh base game sure. With PoF and HoT? Nah.

Wrong wrong and more wrong/fkcing scrub duck off

I'm not interested in SWOTOR because I can't stand Star Wars.
I can look into ESO whenever it goes on sale. Is Prime Subscription needed?

is it needed? No.
does it make your life easier? Yes.

How much easier?

ESO's subscription gives you access to the not-expack DLC, which is some fun content, but not required to enjoy the game at all. I dropped like $20 extra on the subscription for a couple months when it was on sale once, and burned through all the DLC and haven't saw a reason to do it again, besides momentary impulsive desires for housing shit/quality of life stuff.

Also it gives you a pretty substantial exp boost so if you're opposed to grinding, it's going to help you.

does GW2 have tons of story, cutscenes and whatnot? After slogging through FFXIV for 200 hours of main story I'm not in the mood for more stuff like that.

it's mainly the crafting stash. It's just easier to shove everything in one place than to have to buy/sell/min/max your inventory and bank.

it has a MSQ just like FFXIV does but I don't remember if it's necessary to go to the new xpac zones. Pretty sure it's not. Think it's just a "it's there if you want to do this" sort of thing.

It does but you can skip everything and not even attempt to do them.

A lot of super important gear sets are in DLC dungeons. I'd say that it's more along the lines of needed than just 'It helps". Unless you never plan to go past normal difficulty dungeons and wandering around.

GW2 vanilla has skippable everything
Anything after 2014 is unskippable dialogues and cutscenes, though

>Long series of fetch quests in a permanently level scaled world
>As a new player you are nothing but dead weight to everybody else in a dungeon
>Builds are strict and almost pointless, you'll HAVE to spec in one of specific ways to be useful
>Literally its only novelty is being a TES game with other idiots stealing from boxes in town
>Can't even get its own lore straight but it's fine because c0da lole

GW2 is one the most severe disappointments in vidya. I actually bothered to have my account deleted so I don't come back to it each year like an abused housewife thinking "It won't be that bad this time."

FFXIV is WoW with a Final Fantasy paintjob.

which MMO runs well on a potato? (Apart from OSRS)

Attached: D1P4fN5VsAAHIFW.png (377x307, 118K)

Guild Wars

I guess I should specify, "1". Honestly 2 probably does also if you put it at the lowest settings.

Wait, Guild Wars 1 is still running? Does it have players?
Does the Steam version work?

how potato are we talking here? FFXIV runs on 2006 tier hardware.

unfortunately you just missed an ESO free week and sale for the 5th year anniversary.
ESO+ subscription is great if you are playing it but not necessary for just dabbling. you get an infinite account-wide crafting materials bag, access all (most?) of the DLC, 10% bonus gains, extra housing space, etc.

the business system is kind of a cunt but if you buy the game and sub its not really a problem since its gives you premium currency each month.

it has a payed race, paid loot boxes, paid DLC different from expansions, payed vanity, payed boosts, payed everything. i really don't blame people for being sick of it, i won't defend that shit - but - its improved a lot since launch and for "dabbling" purposes and actually having some good story/characters whilst playing it more like a solo CRPG - its actually pretty great. maybe the best for that approach imo, and it does have raids/RvR/BGs etc if you get really into it.

CHICKEN TENDERRRRRRRS

Attached: 1529637831501.jpg (325x325, 18K)

no it doesn't. It runs on 2010 tier hardware now. They discontinued ps3.

My Laptop
8GB RAM, i5
GT 920M
I'm out on holiday for a while but I'm getting super bored and wanna play something. Thought MMO might be a good idea.

COME READY TO FRYYYYYYY

You don't have to do any story content in GW2 unless you want to. You're not missing out on anything reward wise either that you can't find in other parts of the game much easier either.

Only mandatory parts are the first few expansion missions to access those areas but they are very brief.

ANCIENT ACOOOOOOORNS

Attached: 1546138513243.jpg (875x739, 81K)

>still running
yep, got some updates in the past year also. Mostly QoL stuff and some graphical tweaks/upgrades
>does it have players
seems so? I don't really know since I'm playing through Prophecies atm. First time playing through. Looks like there's a bunch of people pre-searing.
>steam version work?
yep, that's what I'm playing on. Although I think it starts up without steam. I bought the complete edition or something. Got Eye of the North + Trilogy and that was apparently all I needed for "the full game".

Attached: YW4WStP[1].jpg (1920x1080, 678K)

Both are complete shit and one is infested with trannies. Play DDO instead.

People talking in chat isn't interacting with other people.

>Takeda peers through the stained panties on his face and sees you accidentally spoke English in a public channel
>DING DONG BANNU

Damn, looks comfy as fuck. Reminds of early-mid 3D PC games.
I'll get it this summer sale.

FFXIV endgame is pretty hit or miss but I can not recommend the game because the leveling experience is fucking awful. It’s a single player game.

>It’s a single player game.
So do proper MMOs have a different leveling experience?

Yeah it's filled my need for that "old-school" mmo. It's also super single player friendly which I enjoy.

I'll just jump in and add that you should play on the American servers, because EU ones are pretty dead except in the major cities. Most players hopped over to US servers a few years back. Unless you just wanna solo with lower latency that is.

I don't mind a bit of story or story quests, but if I get into it I just don't want to crawl through hundreds of hours of obsolete MANDATORY story like with FFXIV. Something a bit snappier would be nice.
Thanks for explaining shit to me though, I appreciate it.

>dabble
Shroud of the Avatar

Do not touch GW2, shell the 30 bucks for gw1 and all expansions instead.

No Richard

You can start from any of the three campaigns (Eye of the North is the only traditional "expansion" that you can't start in). They all have the option to jump to the others fairly early on. Factions gets you to 20 the fastest, which doesn't matter too much. Nightfall gets you your Heroes faster. Since you started in Prophecies, Heroes are like Henchmen but you have control over their skill build, subclass, and gear.

That being said, starting in Prophecies is the only way to see the pre-searing content, so you probably did the right thing. It just takes a lot longer to get to the point where you can dip into the other campaigns.

In that you can pick and choose which zones to level in without having to drag through a mandatory 150 hour main story in which 80% is garbage

FFXI runs on a potato

FFXIV has an inexcusable hit detection that speaking against will get you called a scrub. It's easy to play around; You just have to not be in the bad spot when the cast bar hits 100%, it's just after the castbar hits 100% you have ~5 seconds of movement and skill presses until the animation, and the damage, actually happens.... hitting you based on where you were when the skill bar finished. 5 seconds earlier. Not all skills even have a bar so you just have to be out of the bad spot as early as possible or risk getting fucked by the server ticks.

What about SWTOR? Did any of the expansions offer anything worthwhile?

It's a shit failed MMO, but some of the class story campaigns in vanilla were actually pretty good.

Guild Wars 1
Runescape
Maplestory probably
Dungeon Fighter Online should run on a potato
FFXI
Diablo 2 Median XL, but it resets w/ a new update in 2 weeks

If you want retarded combat where you just go in and mash every button on your keyboard then play GW2
I don't hate the game but the combat fucking sucks

That's not hit detection, it's just shitty servers and server tick rate

If that's what you want, play TSW instead. At least you'll get great questing out of it.

Attached: 1533120467820.jpg (1920x1080, 233K)

Does any MMO actually have good combat?

GW1, but that's technically not an MMO

Black Desert Online, it has more of a "content to use the combat on" problem 'though.

>I can't let go of boring, dead games

Unless you're talking about open world content this is absolutely wrong.Mashing buttons will not get you anywhere especially in pvp.

Dungeon Fighter Online did once upon a time. It still has it, it's just PvE has devolved into blowing up rooms in one shot. PvP still relies heavily on the solid combat.

DCUO. You need to like capeshit to enjoy it though.

Such a beautiful game,it truly feels like an MMORPG but it's so inconvenient to play and I don't even care about whales selling costumes or buy artisans to enchant. What really gets me is the pets and weight limit.

>If you want retarded combat where you just go in and mash every button on your keyboard then play GW2
That'll work as well in XIV as it does in GW2

The combat's alright, but the enemies are glorified punching bags until you reach the level where it's open season on your boypussy for gankers.

Attached: 1534164509082.jpg (1920x1080, 144K)

Come raid with us then, oh master of GW2 combat. I'm sure you'll do great.

should i play FFXIV or GW2?

So I don't want to make a new thread for this, but if I've got the craving to play an MMO for a bit and don't want to spend money, is GW2 a good option?

I would wish BDO on no one. The entire game is created to be a painful slog.

You eventually bite the bullet, then it feels good.... until you realize that it would be more optimal if your pets were tier 4, and that's quite the expensive gamble. The secret to weight management is abusing your horse/you being able to carry a single stack of items way past the limit, combined with maids. It's stupidly expensive to get into.

Oh I get it.
Well, for some reason, Bethesda decided to put a regional pricing for base game MORE than the USD value, but reasonable price for Expansion editions.
I'll wait for summer sales on this.

XIV if you want a redpilled story
GW2 if you want actual transsexual writers
Everything else is comparable, except XIV has more abilities

The enemies are still puncing bags then. That's what I meant by a "content to use the combat on" problem. The newish daily boss thing they added is actually quite nice, but it's not enough.

Yes, you have nothing to lose. If you don't like it, just quit. Just know that the game gets better later on though.

He asked for good combat, I recommended good combat, and explained the flaws surrounding the combat... albeit poorly. The game bigger problem is almost everything else.

Yes, if you don't want to spend money it's a good option. Plenty of stuff to run around through even without the expansions.

>ESO
it has the worst combat out of all games
the quests are nothing but fetch quests
dungeons are shit and so is the gameplay

The thing I loved about ff11 and ff14 was that you could be ONE character who becomes a paladin, a dark knight, a white mage, a samurai, everything. You could be EVERYTHING on one character. Do any other games offer that? I remember some anime game was really popular that had a on-the-fly class switching thing but fuck if I remember it's name.

Like i always say, FFXIV at this point might just as well be an lobby game, since the only thing worth while is the endgame content. So, GW 2 maybe is the better mmo experience i guess? Even though i got really disapointed with it back in 2012.

The entire thread is about that question you dumb fucking faggot. How about you read the posts instead of asking to be spoonfed?

>story in MMORPGs
>XIV has more abilities
the vast majority being fillers between you forced cooldown

I'm doing both

Well, a new player has to slog through the entire main story quest even before that which is pretty off-putting for a lot of folks.

Doesn't change the fact that there's more, retard

>talking to other people isn't interacting with other people

Attached: 1553816808136.jpg (177x219, 68K)

GW2 has the best B2P model around but I wouldn't really recommend the F2P version it's quite restrictive to fight bots.
Also you can buy virtually every single item in the gemstore(cash shop) with in-game gold.

GW2 is an okay option. I'd recommend Dungeon Fighter Online more, the only issue is fatigue. Once you're max level fatigue barely matters, and as you level more it starts to matter less. The issue is the fatigue feels the absolute worst on day 1, day 2 isn't much better... your whole first week you burn through the fatigue way too quickly. It's not even a matter of differing limits, it's just the early zones are meant to be burnt through fast, faster clearing of zones = faster burning of fatigue.

Pressing 5 buttons on a cycle vs. alternating between two or three combos and lining up your other abilities for your burst windows

>I slurp the cocks of bad games just because they're newer

I know about gw2 jewery but
>XIV if you want a redpilled story
exactly what levels of redpill are we talking here

Adding another question to this, how much is the sub, and is it required for soloing?

Yep, and Squeenix knows it's terrible. They're never going to fix it properly, becuase they provided a $25 skip the story pass as their fix.

>reading comprehension is hard

It doesn't though. For example an engineer in GW2 can have more.

Not very considering it has more trannies than any other mmo

>The muh 2.5 gcd shit again
Even in ARR it wasn't an issue at max level due to all the weaving most physical classes did mixed with the positional stuff, I can only imagine it was even less so in the expansions.
And if you played a caster, gcd wasn't a thing at all.

>projecting this hard

The XIV story isn't redpilled in the slightest. It's mostly about globalism and fighting the evil empire who won't submit.

Not him, and not a big fan of FFXIV, but there are some really big redpill bombs all over the main story

Attached: ffxiv_22042016_002933.jpg (1920x1080, 524K)

Yes, yes you are. Glad you realize that.

I didn't mind the gcd honestly.

National diversity rather than globalism, open racism, victims of the wars aren't just killed, but enslaved and/or raped by opposing forces or bandits, every race has racial stereotypes for the other races, muh moneylenders

Attached: 1537833525538.jpg (1917x2133, 471K)

I really want to get into xiv but I don't like any of the races

Don't you then go and help the refugees in that storyline? Like isn't he saying that as a way to frame the refugees "oppressors" as bad?

>I. I know you are, but.. but what am I

Maplestory still going on? DFO looks interesting.
FFXI is not available in my region and I don't think Median XL works on pirated Diablo 2.

chocolate bunnies soon

Not quite.

Attached: 1535593254123.jpg (1911x6337, 2.53M)

They're literally only for aesthetics if that helps user.

You kill or beat into submission just as many refugees as you help desu
They make distinct the refugee who will work and the one who wants to be handed everything

Attached: 1551814070224.png (1920x1057, 2.27M)

Maplestory is still alive. Play on Reboot (or your regional equivalent). It's the official server with most of the P2W stripped away, available for in game mesos, not real money. You still have to buy a pet though.

DFO is solid and has been a stable MMO in every region except the west for a long time. It's just the fatigue that limits you that turns most away. It's per character though, and alts are recommended anyway for farming daily stuff.

The evil empire are the globalists though, and they're militant atheists. The good guys are a collection of states that recognize each others' cultures and sovereignty.

>comprehension of socializing is hard

One point at the end of an expansion you get run out of a city and made a fugitive apart from you can walk back over there and nothing is different.

I don't remember the specifics, I just took the first screenshot I could find in my folder. There are many more redpill quotes, even if this specific one might not be quite that.

they still support dx9/32-bit, there are people playing ffxiv right now with worse specs than ps3 (windows xp). although dx9/32-bit is soon getting discontinued.

that should be fine.

Attached: 1538773549825.png (604x144, 59K)

what bunnies
I don't choose mmo race for racials mane, I choose them for aesthetics because I consider this unironically the most important choice after
picking class

Neither did I, it was barely an issue after 40 anyways.

Just pick midlander then, they're stock humans. Or like the user said, wait for Viera.

If you aren't subbed consider your inventory fucked. A horder's nightmare.

Well, you have all the standard options, just with an anime coat of paint

>human
>elf
>dwarf
>beast race
>giant race
>dragon

and soon bunny girls and bara cats.

I heard Shadowbringers is going to fix ARR's MSQ a little bit but I could have heard wrong. Fix as in maybe getting rid of a bunch of fetch quests

They discontinued ps3 so they could stop complaining about load times. The game still looks worse than 1.0

The fetch quests aren't even the problem. It's the hours of quests you do at 50 to unlock post-50 content. And then again at the end of Heavensward, and then you'll be doing it again at the end of SB. It's the worst when the quests are just "talk to guy here" then "talk to guy there" repeat across the world 5 times into a 20~60 minute queue. The amount of pointless running between npc quests rivals Runescapes shitty quests.

The game honestly plays worse than 1.0, especially gathering classes. The key difference is the UI elements actually work and don't have a 3 second delay between every time you press enter on something.

I could see them fixing the Titan questline if they haven't already.
Maybe making those trials and early dungeons soloable with the scions as NPC party memebers.

Hold up.
Only options of buying in GW2 are the expansions.
I know GW2 was B2P before it went F2P

When you say B2P model, do you mean the old model or the current expansion buying model?

>Anet cut huge chunks from the personal story, cause they wanted to make it less complicated for chinese players
At least nothing of value was lost. GW2 has bad story and some of the most unlikeable characters I have ever seen in a video game.
Out of curiosity, is the GW2 general still fucked?

Yes.
What the fuck even happened to that general?

Attached: 1530852883064.jpg (351x371, 31K)

GW2 has better core combat mechanics but shit PvE content and shit armor
FFXIV has better actual content but the core mechanics and combat aren't as exciting

I've never been to it, but probably the same as every other general. Namefags jerking each other off w/ topics that hold no relevancy to the game itself.

I played 1.23b and the combat was fucking horrible compared to what we have now. For like 10 seconds your character just stands there doing nothing while getting auto attacked by a boss.

Probably
Ever since they started gearing all the cash-shop shit for ERP furries, the general went to shit because Anet is basically validating all their bullshit.
Honestly, I'm just hoping shit like Crowfall can fill the gap from GW2's PvP scene cause that's all Ive ever wanted

One angry furry happened I think. I'm not exactly up to date, but I think one avatar/tripfag erper got angry, and made a bot that would spam the general to death.

You mean while you built up TP to spend on a meaningful skill, of which you had a few choices to meet the situation?

That sounds so cute.
The general died because autistic furfag bought a bot and spammed the thread to death.
Every friday he would spam his character. the thread told him to fuck off so he destroyed the thread.
Do you think I'm joking? make a gw2 general to test it

Attached: 1506719039614.jpg (621x578, 98K)

Good joke.

Attached: 1506729943328.jpg (537x738, 48K)

Is this the XIV thread? Cat thots get fucked.

Attached: dumb feliniggers.jpg (396x514, 73K)

Which one is easier to get into? I don't think I'll stick with either for endgame

Not him. He's not joking. That guy actually went on an autistic rampage and bought a bot only for the purpose of destroying every GW2 general on /vg/.

I wish someone would do this for the XIV general.

If you're just planning on playing for a week or two, probably Dungeon Fighter Online. Just make any class and play through the story and you're good. Skill resets are free and there's a "recommended build" button if you don't want to think.

Maplestory is just if you want a mindless chill grind using very few buttons.

This but unironically. Should have happened after that one guy cut up his arm over discord

O-oh.

Attached: pPMQgMN[1].png (474x562, 27K)

Just pick a class and go, it's a good time.

story?

>mogstation outfit
you aren't much better jew

How autistic are people in GW2 about being geared for fractals? I went got HoT/PoF a while ago and finally finished most of the open world stuff I wanted to do. I want to do some ascended gearing and check out fractals for the first time, but the only ascended gear I have is from Tequatl drops.

Attached: angery.webm (960x528, 2.85M)

Does GW2 B2P keys from key websites work? Will it add anything new?

Depends on how far into the fractal levels you are. The biggest thing holding you back will be you dying in one hit if youre below the required fractal resistance level, which will be depending on you having ascended armor.

So yeah it's kind of a must after like level 20-30 to get some ascended stuff.

I'm going to jump into xiv after they release bunnies and I need to fill in on the series since I never played it at all
recommend me a good order of previous games lads

do you want a halfway decent game? FFXIV
do you want a dogshit awful game that will make you regret every hour you spend on it? GW2

cringe

You don't need any background info on Final Fantasy for XIV. You'll be busy as fuck just getting through the main story quest unless you pay to skip it.

You don't need to play any other Final Fantasy to enjoy XIV since it's both an MMO and it's entirely stand-alone. You will miss out on any references to previous games but it's not mandatory.

I haven't run through any yet, so I can only queue up for the low level 1-25 fractals. I should be fine to start then. I imagine builds are important so I should probably look up a decent dps build so I don't get roasted the moment I join a party.

but I need to immerse myself and fill in the void in my soul craving for mmorpg in the meantime

I'd recommend just starting now, when Shadowniggers comes out they'll likely bundle a Fantasia with the xpac, like they did with Heavensward and Au Ra being released.
Otherwise, try playing 12 and Tactics.

Just start the game now and change your race when bunnies are out.

games that have major references in XIV:
>3
>5
>6
>12
>Tactics

Start with FF5. If you like the job system gameplay, go back and play FF3. If you want something more story oriented, move on to FF6. The starting point for a lot of people was FF7 but it's a little bit aged nowadays so maybe try a few of the previous games before going to it, then from 7 just play up through 12.

Yeah you should for sure check out some meta builds. Note that they require way better gear and food than you will need in low level fractals though so don't sweat it too much.

Try this site for some very high end meta builds:
discretize.eu/builds

no that is not an option I don't like changing races it feels wrong but still thanks
thanks guys

Don't forget Golden Saucer, so add 7. That was a delight to me in XIV.

Golden Saucer doesn't really reference 7 beyond existing. Same with Triple Triad and 8.

Why? In XIV they are literally just for aesthetic purposes, there's no racials or story changes for different races.

For anyone intrigued into starting Guild Wars 1, gwpvx.gamepedia.com/PvX_wiki is a useful compilation of builds.

XIV uses FF7 a lot more heavily than just the Gold Saucer. Dalamud is Meteor, ceruleum is mako, there's a materia system, the Lifestream is a major plot element, Knights of the Round are the final boss of a whole expansion

xiv only need more 9 and 10
used to barely have anything from 8 but now we are getting gunblade and eden

Attached: 74159694_p1.jpg (963x700, 405K)

ESO is much better than GW2. FFXIV looks good, but haven't played it. Pick one of those

You have meet the AR requirements to go on most fractals, and you can only get AR from ascended gear.

Reminder viera and hrothgar suck, give us fat miqo'tes

Attached: 74178326_p0.png (849x1200, 1.37M)

I know actually playing a game you buy instead of skipping 98% of it just to afk is so horrible. This is the anti FFXIV low iq human who pretends to have opinions, nice job trying to think with that slop between your ears I'll give you a D- for effort and an F for execution.

I figure this is as good a thread to ask as any: Does starting class/job in FFXIV actually matter? I kind of want to Tank main but it seems more practical to use a DPS starter and level that through MSQ while leveling a tank role through duties instead.

fuck off faggot

>listening to NPCs explain to you, the warrior of light, how you really need to go collect some turnips
>gameplay

Attached: BDO-p2w.png (1026x3358, 444K)

Not really. Some are more bearable than others at early levels, and it determines which city you start in, which determines your story from 1-20. Starting with Marauder or Arcanist gets you access to Rogue earlier.

>I don't care about the little man and fleshing out these already barren, dead zones. Tell me about the new ancient evil I have to pound with my dick because I'm so big and strong and important
Going with the Warrior of Light thing was the greatest mistake of the plot.

Attached: 1540119854190.png (492x504, 356K)

no not really, all it does is that you can't change your starting city, it doesn't do anything, but you don't want to be constantly reminded you are from uldah

You don't need an essay anymore user, you can buy cronstones with real money through costumes.

it is a bit complicated matter my dude
I feel very attached to characters I play in mmo rpgs. I usually play one or two characters maximum.
and I don't want to confuse myself when eventually time comes to bailing out of these mmos.
the reason is when I abandon mmo for good, I don't like to rely on the memory alone. I start the process of ripping and restoring the character I played as 3d model with intent to get irl figurine. each figurine currently on the shelf reminds me of the deeds done in these either long dead or alive but abandoned mmos, each serve as anchors for fond or not very fond memories.
that is basically the reason why I never make race changes in mmo rpg.

Attached: assburger.jpg (245x278, 31K)

Marauder does decent enough damage compared to Gladiator early on if you really want to start with tanking. Once you reach Ishgard after the 2.X story you can pick up Dark Knight.

Attached: 53265772_p36.png (729x987, 350K)

>implying that's the motivation
All of the quests are set up as you gaining their trust, and proving that you're reliable. You're not helping the little man, you're proving that you can be useful to someone. When you're the Warrior of Light. The guy that did all of the things in the previous expansions. The world renown hero. Some old fuck doesn't trust you, because he somehow hasn't heard of you, so you go and pick up literal cow shit for him to convince him you're useful.

>Do any other games offer that?
Shroud of the Avatar. Also only one server world.

There's a whole questline about your character's resentment over this.

>listening to some other NPC whine about how they had to go collect turnips
>gameplay

I have maxed about half the classes/jobs in each game, I absolutely love both. I would reccomend both. Il TL;DR it for you

GW2
>Faster leveling
>Faster paced combat
>If you like playing all classes be ready to make a ton of Alts and maybe buy more character space
>Journey to level cap is fun
>Earning hero points (which are spent on to earn skills both active and passive) are fun

FFXIV
>Slow boring start but gets extremely fun later on
>Slow leveling
>If you like playing multiple classes/jobs, it can all be done on one character
>Combat is traditional mmo stuff
>Tons of fun side content

Both have good story and lore
Both have generally good player bases

GW2 Pushes you to interact
FFXIV you could play entirely without talking to anyone

>Walk into an Amalj'aa camp and start slaughtering them for training
>Oh, what a day! What a lovely day!

Attached: 1536119915405.jpg (1479x1100, 297K)

What other MMO's have features similar to the GW2 mastery system? I really like the post max-level ability leveling that gets shared across all account characters and the mount system they've implemented.

My bad, didn't know I wasn't speaking to a child-minded negro who'd rather whine than have fun

they are both godawful.
dont bother.

>there are people in this thread who havent leveled a BRD for the sole purpose of playing music for random people ingame

Attached: pathetic.jpg (601x601, 23K)

I was more concerned with secondary jobs. Like, it seems like it'd be easier to level a Tank on the side than a DPS on the side. Also maybe story, kinda? Like are there ever any references to your main job in the story, or is it all just generic one size fits all?

I pluck out the Yanxia day theme sometimes before just slamming random keys because my queue is dead or I drew a small collection of people I'd like to chase off.

I created keyboard macros for playing instruments in GW2 so I could entertain people while waiting for raids to start. Is that good enough?

Heavensward has a few references to Dragoon if you completed/are playing that. Stormblood has one throwaway line for Monk.

I don't know if there's anything exactly like GW2's system, but FFXIV allows you to switch classes and level them all on a single character, as well as all crafting shit being able to be done on a single character.

Based
Thats fine, I usually prefer doing it without macros though, feels more authentic.

Generic one size fits all. MSQ has mandatory queues at some point, you might as well go with tank if that's what you want to play. Leveling another character is a slog either way. They sell level skips for a reason, if you work a decent job the time spent on leveling to the skip point is worth far more than the $25 skip.

>with real money
>>with real money
>with real money
So now it's not just pay2win with a grind, it's pay2win and pay2notgrind2win?

Attached: 1535553362671..png (937x767, 40K)

Cronstones just remove the failure penalty on upgrade attempts, you need a lot for the relevant gears final two upgrades. You still want to build up failstacks and grind for shit otherwise.

i'm not gay enough to play brd

wha
are you talking about bard class in xiv? it can play music?
god damn it I know what I will play
some time ago I made a band of rogue bards in lotro and we played until erpers ran away

Archer turns into a Bard at level 30.
After that you can go to an NPC and get your instruments
Its just a piano interface with different filters over it depending on the instrument you're playing. You can go up/down one octave.

One of the SB patches added music for BRDs, yeah. Drums, wind instruments and string instruments

>Cronstones just remove the failure penalty
In other words, "It'd be a shame if it took you forever to get this essential thing. Just pay us to get past this pain point!"

Attached: 1535366268147.png (117x128, 20K)

youtu.be/mrmy1nWMfKA

Cringe. You just need to get to 30 so you can entertain randoms. Its comfy.

I already know what I will be playing lads
maybe I will find two more airheads to harass people with our "masterpieces" while I'm at it

Attached: feels diabolical man.jpg (470x595, 91K)

Nah, if you're not buying them with real money you just yolo without them. They cost too much in game silver to be viable. I'm not saying it isn't pay to win, I'm saying it doesn't skip the grind like the user I was replying to implied.

Someone farm alpha savage for me, I don't want to PF

Attached: 1415165480779.png (473x263, 110K)

Use the bongo drums and roll your face on the keyboard. It's top tier.

XIV has the best humor. Proof

youtu.be/lWnAHnvLMnE

the clarinet is the worst fucking ear rape

>MSQ has mandatory queues at some point
Yeah but you only have to do it once. I'm assuming dungeons are the most effective way to level outside of MSQ, right? If so, I'd rather grind dungeons as a tank than a DPS. Healslutting is out of the question

Archeage, Feels pretty good especially since Trion went under.

I'm gay, but I'm not THAT gay

On EU after the split you can't do shit in PF, it's completely dead.

You'll do your deep dungeon and you'll become a mind broken slave at the end from the monotony and lose all ability to function without *redacted* cock down your throat because you like it

but healers are not sluts nor gay user

Scholar is fun for healing now and then.

You become a healslut because you want to.

Attached: elemental-magus.png (340x570, 487K)

healing is boring as fuck anyway, only women and brainlets enjoy it

Yes and no. You are forced into a war by one of the refugees staging a false flag attack. After this you end up liberating the refugee homeland which means most of them go back home.

only like 5 of them go back home, the ala mhigans in ala mhigo are the one that were already there
there's a whole quest about

How is that even a discussion.
GW2 is literally a non-game.
It's a lobby afk simulator that has no meaningful endgame content.
Since the dawn of time, meaningful endgame mmorpg content was raiding big bosses,
any game not following this suit and instead opted to claim PvP is just a testament to lazy developers being unable to create a content system like that.
PvP mmos are trash, always been, always are and always will be.

they kinda are because inevitably everybody reaches endgame.

Fat Miqo'te are life

>People are actually recommending GW2

Attached: 1457386880422.jpg (600x600, 52K)

Just dragoon because they’re special bois, dark knight will most likely get special dialogue and reference in shadow bringers

they can fix FFXIV by letting us join gaius early on

Come home, white boy

Attached: gw087.jpg (1920x1080, 874K)

Honestly yeah, DRG was my second choice after PLD so I'll just switch them around. Will also probably run a Gunbreaker Hrothbro when Shadowbringers drops

FFXIV has the better in-game community if you play on Primal. GW2 community is hot trash by default because it's F2P/B2P allowing toxic shits to join.

>toxic
Yikes. So it's true what they say about XIV and trannies?

Both games have their fair share of trannies, but the GW2 devs are themselves trannies.

xiv

Attached: 1555190080603.webm (1280x720, 2.33M)

GW2 has no worthwhile content. FFXIV combat is brain dead boring. ESO art style looks like shit.

Then clearly there is only one choice.
