Who MLR here?
/mlr/ general
I like rugby but I don’t even follow English club rugby
This, I only cared about Six Nations recently. We got the World Cup coming up, tho.
How popular is it over there, mate?
Rugby United lifelong here. Realistically, who can stop us?
The largest capacity ground in the league has an 11k capacity. Average attendance last season was 2,300.
>was gonna get a team
>investors went to san diego instead
reeeeeeeeee
Are you not allowed to set up your own team and apply to join a league / form your own?
I'm guessing there's not enough general support. I don't see a ton of grassroots sports franchises in the US. The only instance I can think of is my city of Detroit, where we have a football club that's actually now joining a professional (though non-MLS) league. There's other cases, but I think it's almost more the exception than the rule. In general, though, I think a lot of people don't care for sports here unless it's a huge league with lots of marketing, or they follow sports teams associated with an educational institution. It's probably the prevalence of college sports that's really sucked away the ability for grassroots sports organizations to thrive.
>Harlequins
pretty solid product desu, I don't know how much it costs them to run it but the crowds I've seen on TV have been respectable for such a niche sport. So if they're being prudent in spending I could see it lasting, but no way can it sustain itself if they're not being realistic as to the popularity of the sport. They also need to attach a 7s season that runs the other 6 months of the year, would probably increase their odds of survival.
Infinity Park is comfy as fuck...need to go to more games this year.
not bad for a 1st season...
Around about where Welsh club rugby is at lol
Rugby League is better. Saw a part of a game on twitch.tv (elevensports carries them randomly). Lots of rucking and very little fucking going on.
You're watching Northern Hemisphere rugby. Watch some Southern Hemisphere rugby like Super Rugby.
>Rugby League is better.
I saw New Zealand play England at Mile High Stadium in Denver, it was wonderful.
Rugby League should be the most popular sport in the world.
>uncontested scrums
>no lineouts
>no mauls
>no rucks
It's fucking boring. It's like the pussy version of union.
>uncontested scrums
Why do they even do this?
Because league is the working man rugby, they couldnt risk injury that took time away from toiling at a factory so they make it to be safer, union was the richfag game hence they cared less about bodily harm
Your one and only champion.
