Tied for number 2 Metallica alum with Puppets, with Ride being 1st.

it was a complete disappointment after puppets.
obviously Cliffs death knocked the balls off the rest of them.
jason was a mistake. there is a reason why the bass wasnt recorded

Good riffs here and there but in typical Metallica fashion they have to repeat and hackjob their sections into 8 minute snorefests

When Hetfield finally matured as a songwriter. Mustaine was always noticeably superior to him but with this album Hetfield was finally able to put up a fight.
It has glaring weaknesses in the shit production and the bloated song lengths but it's a strong album nonetheless.
Unfortunately it had a bad influence in the metal bands of the time, when they starting trying to mimick it while failing to realize that AJFA's sound was the result of a grieving band.

True, but the first four Metallica albums are all 10's imo

I found it to be disappointing to say the least.

I absolutely loathe the drums (both sound and actual playing, horribly tasteless). The songs are nice to listen to but get tiring after a while, at some point it doesn't even feel like it's the same song and the line between different songs blends.
As a result I felt like the individual songs had no identity of their own, but that might just be me still getting used to the album.

Quite the opposite, I went in wanting to like it so much, making the disappointment even worse.
