Townes Van Zant if you want some depressing music that's in that similar veign. Kurt Vile is a pretty good "alt-country" singer who's influenced by alt-rock bands like Sonic Youth. I can't find it now but there used to be an alt-country playlist on Spotify that had a lot of great songs and artists on it. One song I really liked was 'Never Be Ourselves' by Savannah Conley.
