Why did the Pagans abandon their religions and convert to Christianity? What does Christianity have better than Paganism?

There's no such thing as "paganism" that just means anything non-Christian. As for what it has, that's easy: a free ride to paradise if you just say sorry after being a cunt. Considering all the kings and emperors and whatnot were often busy being cunts that seemed a good deal

Should probably move this to /his/

Most did it because it was beneficial to them and the situation was playing out as a "adapt or die" type of thing. Pagan kings realized they could more easily rule people if all of them were united under the idea that a king was appointed by a holy, unquestionable power. They also knew it granted them some immunities to larger kingdoms that had already adopted Christianity.

As for the locals, it was usually forced. Armies would go in with priests, cut down holy pagan forests, and forced baptisms were a thing. They'd club you on your head to knock you out, then baptise you and give you a christian name. Christian merchants also weren't allowed to trade with non-christians, so pagan merchants would either convert, or put up pictures of jesus to open up more avenues.

Kek bro ur an idiot do u seriously think anyone now or much less then got to "choose" their religion?

Ur either born into ur religion based on ur region or people with swords threatening insane torture make u switch. What do they even teach in history classes anymore?

Its because Christian's killed you if you didn't convert. Back when Christianity conquered instead of got cucked.

A trickle up economy in return for offering a one way all-inclusive ticket to paradise.

Because the whole of Europe got cucked by the Middle East and their superior religions.

christianity was it's era's communism. if you look at it out of religious context, it talked of equality in all things and most importantly equality of wealth. the poor masses took to it under the false assumption (as with any ideology) that they would benefit from it becoming the norm. rulers and priests fought against it because they saw the threat it posed but eventually they took the "if you can't beat them join them" approach. under emperor Constantine, christianity became the official religion and benefits were given to those who converted to it, creating waves of mass conversions by people who did not know or did not care what the religion was about and the pagan priests joined up as christian priests. those who had integrity in their faith to the old gods were eventually rooted out and christianity lost its meaning, becoming just another tool in the hands of the rulers and the priests to control the masses.

the truth set them free

>What does Christianity have better than Paganism?
the support of the Roman government
seriously, if it hadn't been for Constantine Christianity would have died out by ad1000
before Constantine Christianity was the religion of slaves and omen that didn't ant to be baby factories

>this is what pop science makes you believe
absolutely pleb tier

Because Christianity (and all its DLC forms like Islam, etc) destroy cultures, erases history, and assimilates the people. It is a conquering religion.

Most religions, the powerful and wealthy were more important, christianity treated women, slaves, and the poor equally to rich males.

Christianity has the same thing Islam has, they'll kill you if you don't convert.

Well when you're in front of an executioner and you have to chose between Odin or the Axe, I dont think much convincing needs to be made.

Most smart people just secretly worshipped their gods while doing the Roman traditions or just blended the two together.

Ok, no it didn't. Roman Catholics still gave people elite status through Devine rule and the papacy and a bunch of other hierchal systems. Paganism is full blown communism compared to organized religion.

where are you getting your information from? history channel?

>Paganism is full blown communism compared to organized religion
family/clan-structures with clear sovereignity of the patriarch or humans being sold as slaves and treated as objects at the mercy of their owner is certainly not communism.

this is what i pieced together by analyzing the church's doctrine about the teachings of Jesus and the history of the religion in the obligatory classes on religion we had back in the day in school
Jesus was the Marx of his time and advocated the same stuff in a religious context.
he said
- he who has 2 robes should give one to he who has none
- in the kingdom of god there is no distinction between man and woman - rich and poor - free and slave
and other stuff like that which are pretty communist if you take god out.
and the history of the religion, as told by the church, says that people joined because of these teachings that promised a better life on this world and the next. they lived by them and died for them
guess who didn't like an ideology that promised an end to all social and economic inequality? the rich, the priests and the kings! they persecuted christians to put an end to the teachings but as the saying goes "ideas are bulletproof". at the end they decided that subversion from within was the only solution and that's what they did. they popularized the religion in order for its teachings to be lost in a massive influx of ignorant people who didn't care about them. in the end the teachings remained as empty words and the people just followed the same old pagan traditions with a new name under the same old pagan priests with a new name.

Guidelines for how to have a normal functioning society, it’s just too bad that so many pretend to be “good Christians” but don’t live their lives like one.

>Jesus was the Marx of his time and advocated the same stuff in a religious context.
thats what these hippie-neo-christians want you to believe. try talking with a catholic priest about the teachings of jesus and you will get a whole new perception about the bible and its teachings: jesus was a pretty conservative guy who doesnt wanted to revolutionize the system, but to get it more akin to its roots and, most importantly, build an Israel without roman sovereignity (thats the original context for turning the other cheek, by the way)

Revelation lines up with their interpretation of end times.
