What do you hate? That they tell you it’s gonna be hard when you graduate? Of course it is. I’m an artist. It doesn’t pay well (or at all usually), so I have to do other stuff to support it, some of it I don’t like. Yeah it sucks but I like being a creative, and if you enjoy playing oboe then you’ll live with it. It’s gonna be hard to find work in whatever field you study in, just be grateful you have supportive parents and teachers and an actual talent
I know this post is going to sound beta but I really need some help bros. It's a dumb and uninteresting story...
Hey user, I've been in a similar situation before. What I've learned throughout the years is that you can get used to anything with time. Even if you hate the oboe now, with enough desperation, you'll eventually learn to love it.
Also, if you worried about your future prospects, try to branch out in other interests to fill time. Learn to monetise other interests.
I still have no idea why no one tried talked me out of it.
Oh Bo, play that oboe.
P.S.
orchestra is soooo much better than solo practice, keep it up user
BECAUSE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A FUCKING ADULT AT THIS POINT.
By your age, people can chose to die for their country. Take some responsibility for your own life.
I'm just saying that I was surprised no one called out how dumb a decision it was. I don't resent anyone for it. On the contrary, the fact that my parents supported me through such a risk speaks volumes about how much faith they have in me. You're correct about taking responsibility for my own life though. I'm still reliant on my parents for every decision I make, which is why it took me this long to even think about quitting. It's something I'm working on, but your reply made me realize how much I need to get on it. Thanks for the response
I think this is what I'll do. I don't want to dump the instrument entirely, I just need a break from it. Thanks for the response
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the instrument and am grateful for my talent. I just don't want to make a career out of playing. I want to treat it like a hobby if anything else
I'll give a couple weeks of orchestra a shot, thanks for the reply
