If you believe in god, I have a question

What would you do if you were your god for a day. What would you do to better humanity, and improve the lives of all your children?

Then realise that if you could think of anything that would improve this world we live on, you should stop believing in that god, because the god you believe in hasn't done it already

Agnostic here.

The idea of the Christian god is that he doesn't interfere. He lets people make their own choices and if they choose sin, they're doomed, if they choose him, they're saved. It's all about choice.

Why do most atheists not at all understand this??

What is God?

Not a question for us to answer.

Not OP, but still.
What if your misfortune is caused not by bad decision or sin, but just plain chance?
What if you're born in a shithole with no laws, poor and ill?
Should God interfere? Can he?

Get rid of the blacks, libs & queers.
Poof. Humanity saved.

Some believe that the greater your trials on earth the greater your rewards in heaven, so there's that.

if we are going to talk about God, the first thing we have to agree with is the definition of God

But if God doesn't exist, is your suffering all for nothing? What about all the people that willfully live in poverty hoping to reach the afterlife? What if our life on Earth is the only one we have and they're all just wasting it?

Okay, from the Christian standpoint God created the heavens and earth and is eternal. That about sums it up.

I live my life as if there is an afterlife but I know it can't be proven so I understand I could just be wasting my life but I literally can't choose to behave any other way

but what is God? a bearded man? what kind of life form is he? is he alive? is he a person?

There's no mention of God's appearance in the Bible. For all we know he doesn't have any corporeal form.

Perhaps he's just the ultimate order of the universe, the reason why everything works in the way that it does. That's my opinion.

so, nobody really knows... what do you think people are refering to when speaking about God?

the celestial being referenced in the bible mostly

so he is not alive and have no conscience

Yeah. He (or rather, "it") doesn't judge, or even think. It just gives structure to the universe.
Sin doesn't exist. Live your life.

We were all originally from heaven. It's our home. But we can't experience pain and suffering in heaven. We have to come here to feel/lean/experience contrast.

God either determined He can't do anything to help if we are to keep our free will or has simply gone away for now because we failed Him so bad He doesn't trust Himself to not go Old Testament on us again. Either way, for now we're on our own. I can't really begin to imagine the thinking of a being that exists beyond time and space but when He said we're made in His image I think He means our feelings and instincts are similar to His own. Your argument is weak. The communists used to torture christians, mocking our religion by asking Could God make a stone so heavy not even He can lift? Your argument is similarly flawed.

>The idea of the Christian god is that he doesn't interfere.

And yet people pray to him in their millions for divine intervention. Salvation from poverty, health from dire sickness, that bullets be plucked from the bodies of their slain schoolchildren. The vast, vast majority believe that their god is a corporeal being who is watching over them and can aid them in times of need, and yet despite never, ever answering their prayers, adulation is still offered freely

tl;dr, religious people are mentally deficient.

You're in mercy so I couldn't think of anything more than clean water faggot

I asked god to protect me from my enemies and then I started losing ‘friends’

They're not praying for god to wave a magic wand and save them (well maybe some idiots are) but the actual idea of prayer is deepening your connection with god. People who pray for camaros aren't really christians, they're just morons.

>the actual idea of prayer is deepening your connection with god.

And is probably practiced by about 15%. Everyone else is looking for free shit

Then they're not actually practicing religion. What's your point? People are stupid? Duh. There are plenty of stupid atheists as well.

what does "a connection with god" mean

Exactly what it sounds like. It's not an esoteric idea.

it is an esoteric idea in the sense that is difficult to understand. What is god and what is a connection with god?

Please do not waste your time disproving religion. Religion is literally built around avoiding logic at all costs. Don't bother with it man.

You're asking roundabout questions with no clear logical destination. You're not trying to get answers, just trying to "debate" but it's honestly the lowest form of debate and I don't have the patience for it.

>with the knowledge that material existence is the currency of mentality and ideas are the currency of our reality,
>one could suspect human beings are workers tasked with adding created things into all cumulative existence.
>this could potentially just be a source of energy in itself
>the meaning of existence for a God
>a god who worships the two most powerful entities in the known universe:
existence and nothingness

>i would end it all and assimilate all which is and that which erases with my consciousness

I'm an atheist, but I get it. I think it's a good scapegoat for the non-evidence of god, but if I was god, that's how I would do it.

Anything else would be too boring. I'd instead opt to become a human, and just relish in the creations of the creations I created. Life after death into life.

i would end it all.

I would obliterate the earth.

That's the cop out the church uses to continue the swindle. God meddled constantly until science painstakingly overturned everything the church preached except the actual existence of God, so now God just exists but doesn't do anything.

Nah dude the people who pray for luxury items are just as much "Christian" as any other Christian, it's just that Christianity (and any other belief system built on faith and prayer) is shallow and pernicious at its roots

Sauce?

They're not though, because they're not practicing their self-proclaimed religion.

I prefaced my statements with the fact that I'm agnostic; do you really think I'm trying to push some dogmatic ideology on you? I was just trying to help OP understand the Christian point of view. Nothing more, nothing less. Hopefully through mutual understanding we can make something out of this shit world, rather than constantly tearing each other down and fucking things up worse.

grow my pubes really long, really fast

>Hopefully through mutual understanding we can make something out of this shit world

The world is a lost cause, there's no point trying to make it better

You can be a defeatist if you want. Not my bag.
