When left to fend for themselves, many will perish, and the strong will survive, and their survival skills will let them re-enter the real world. The rest will be gone, and so will the homeless crisis.

Salt lake city virtually eliminated homelessness by just giving free housing. That seems to work in practice, so I'd rather do that than try something untested and heavy-handed
It would be cheaper to give all homeless free housing than do what we do now, which is spend millions of taxpayer dollars to treat homeless people who end up in emergency rooms with extreme cases of illnesses that they got because they're homeless.

A lot of these people are mentally ill or have a very low IQ. Maybe this could work, but the issue is that the families would suffer. These homeless people are important only so far as how their more functioning families feel about them, in my opinion. If you let them die, their familes might be less productive and remorseful
In the case of mental illnesses, like schizophrenia, the main issue is that they have the authority to refuse the medications that would cure their behavioral problem. My dad actually was homeless for a time due to untreated Schizophrenia, and we couldn't get any doctors to "force him to be well". Eventually we figured it out though.
I say before letting them die in the streets, force treatment on them first if they have something curable. Otherwise, if they are lazy or have low IQ, let them die if the families won't spend the effort to save them. If the familes do decide to help them, then offer financial support to them.

Funny enough that this subject occurred on 4chin. I actually went to a park sat down and had a smoke today. A homeless man sat next to me and I asked him whether he wanted one. He didn't. He didn't smoke. I spoke to him and asked him how he came about being homeless. He said that he grew up in a trailer and joined army when he was 16. He fought wars across the globe for the UK for years until he retired. He said he could never make a normal life after what he went through. Op i used to be like you. I had it all. One good fire ruined that for me. I'm now living in my rv because the insurance wouldn't cover it. I was not allowed to park it on my own property to rebuild. The city wouldn't give me a permit forcing me to leave. I thought that 5 years of money would last. It goes quick. Gas, food, trying to live and get by. I'm going to buy a trailer next week. They will be forced into sobriety. The truly incompetent and insane will have their families contacted and billed for services rendered up to that point. They can then choose to either take responsibility for them and suffer a fine that covers processing or a fee to execute and dispose of them. The fee and fine are the same amount. Refusal of payment will result in the family seized and placed in the camps.
