Yes I grew up in Berlin. In Steglitz to be precise which is a rather green and more expensive district.
Oh yeah I used to go out and drink a lot. There was this hardrock/biker/punk bar in Neukölln which I used to frequent. Cheap beer, shitty music but one hell of a place. Frequent bar fights, pool and darts. Left a lot of money, blood and puke there. Shit was cash. But it closed down in 08. Bummer. Never found a place like it again.
I don't go into faggy clubs, just not my thing.
But sitting at a lake and drinking with friends is still a thing too.

I'm staying in Neukoln this September! It looks cool, by my standards at least. I'm not into faggy clubs where girls post snapchat stories from, but I love dive bars and grimy/alternative clubs. Do most restaurants in Germany double as bars? One thing I noticed when looking at reviews is that they very often mention food.

It's more like that a lot of bars offer food too. Usually nothing too fancy though. Make sure to check out Kottbusser Tor for a lot of street food and shady as fuck people. Near Fehrbelliner platz is a park where Asian families cook and sell Asian food out in the open.

NRW is big n chill tbh. So long you are not in cologne or Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf got a japan day at 25th where it can get messy on the streets.
