My dad is a huge 2nd Amendment gun nut. Not against the Second Amendment. What I can't get over is that school shootings are going to continue to happen forever unless the current political atmosphere allows for dialogue. That can't happen right now because passions are as high as possible. Neither side is going to budge

Why should people give up their rights?
>school shootings are going to continue to happen forever unless the current political atmosphere allows for dialogue.
The solution doesn't lay in the hands of politicians but parents who need to teach their kids coping skills so they don't go full aspie and think it's a reasonable option to do this.
I mean before columbine school shootings didn't happen. When my dad was in HS people literally went to school with shotguns in their truck windows and nothing ever happened. So if the laws haven't changed to allow this to happen, that means the people have. And that is the bigger problem. Any law restricting guns are just a band aid fix. Because like the Oklahoma bombing and the Oslo Norway incident it's evident people can just make bombs in lieu of guns.
Blame the government for forcing kids to be in schools but fail to protect them under their care. It shouldn't matter the type or source of the threat the gov should protect the kids.
Were paying for it theyre failing us.
Yes, it's the guns. Pay no attention to the mental illness of the perps.
Give me a break. You know that's a load of bullshit considering the fact there have always been mentally ill kids in schools across all cultures and all time. People seem to think the core of the problem is mental illness but the real problem is mental illness will always be with us. There's always going to be fucked up children I guarantee you that
>mentally ill kids in schools across all cultures and all time.
Define mentally ill. And also, mental illness has faded away as a public policy issue. JFK gutted the institutions that dealt with it mostly. And even if there have been mentally ill people in our schools and such, why has shooting only become mainstream in the last ten years or so?
Whats different about todays mentally ill and snowflake children to that of two decades ago?
I live in canada, we dont really have any school shootings. I remember in highschool a kid brought in a gun, not to ise it but to seem like he was cool and show it off to his friends. It was his dads gun.
These kids who bring guns into schools should have two things uncovered about them, where they got the guns and why they did it.
One thing people dont talk about often is the kids stealing the guns from their parents, legal gun owners not securing their weapons properly.
not the original poster of that but ill take a crack at it

My guess is that information is more readily available to everyone which shapes our perception of how things are. There were a lot of shootings in schools before columbine but it was only after that it rose to prominence.
Violent crime in the US is down but reporting on what does happen is some how up.
I feel as though people are doing it more or less as a meme that is to say continuing a trend that is established that wasnt before.
