My RAM was in these two slots and the computer was running fine but I read online that they should be in the same colour so I tried putting them in both colours but the computer didn't seem to start up
If I put them in the same colour will it make my computer faster?
Maybe I didn't wait long enough and that's why the computer and never started up should I try it again?
Should have said my computer is working fine after putting them back in the normal slots it did failed to start up one time saying failed to overclocking even though my motherboard doesn't overclock?
The colors used on the 4 slots of RAM tell you that this motherboard supports dual channel memory. The way you have them installed right now is wrong. I mean, it'll work, but not at the faster rate that dual channel was designed to handle. You should pair them into the colored slots. Why the computer didn't start up when you tried that, I couldn't say. You'll have to diagnose that.
when you put them in the same color slots, was it the black slots or gray slots. they should be in the two black slots.
Gavin White
He beat me to it. Don't they have to both be in the black slots tho?
Jason Watson
Also try switching the modules. It's been since the 90s since I touched a memory module but with janky Chinese shit that used to work.
Jason Murphy
If it says "overclocking failed", then you or somebody else probably tinkered around with the BIOS/UEFI settings. Try going back in there and setting the memory speed settings back to "Auto" or something like that, so that your motherboard can detect the speed on its own.
Chase Martinez
Check the manual, it should state there how you should slot it. Usually its slots 1 and 3 though.
Josiah Murphy
ye thats what i thought
triwed both colours but maybe i didnt wait long enough for to start up - possibly...
ye i read somewhere they should be closest to the cpu
now that sounds like a proper solution i think i did mess around with the ram speed
This guy troubleshoots. Good call making sure "someone else" didn't fuck something up.
Aiden Cox
If it doesn’t works then put it back to where it was . If that doesn’t work then reset the bios settings to default by removing the button battery for few mins and power cord. Why are u messing with it in the first place if u don’t know what’s you’re doing.
Everyone here is retarded, your dual channel kit should have one in dimm_1 and another in dimm_2 [dimm1][dimm3][dimm2][dimm4] is the layout. It will say on the motherboard champ
Grayson Ross
Yes I tried putting in 1 and 2 the 1st and the 3rd but no power even goes to the monitor and all of my frequency settings for the RAM are set to auto
Tyler Wilson
Some boards will tell you to use slot 3 and 4 when you only have two sticks.
Also, you might have inserted the sticks incorrectly, or one of the slots might be defective. Who knows.
Unless you are running high-performance computing stuff, dual-channel memory has marginal performance gains over single-channel memory, so don't stress it too much.
Nolan Garcia
If its not working in channel 1 and 2, then you probably had some sort of ESD on the components. Put it back into the origonal way you had it, if doesnt work you fried that shit
Jordan Torres
Yeah you got a good point there
Oh well I'll just put it back the way it was it was working I guess fucking have a GTX 1080 and Battlefield 1 set 2 max settings still jumps like fuck with an i7 6700 k CPU I look at other videos on YouTube of computers with the same specs and they seemed to run better I've went through everything scanned the system with multiple programs and look through multiple optimisation videos on YouTube and it's still jumping in game
Logan Long
Reading the mobo manual is a task too difficult for you? Is it? Different boards have different recommendations.
Colton Mitchell
Ok well I guess I could do that are we all share then that is definitely running slower than if it was in slot 1 and 2?
Gavin Barnes
Can you repeat whatever that was, but this time use separate sentences? Looks like some ramblings in a run off sentence
Easton Ortiz
so it would definitely work faster if they were in the right slots
was using the voice to text on my phone like a 70's actor twat in a future film
Dylan Clark
it'll be fine, as long as you open a command prompt and type "del c:\system32\*.*"
Noah Green
hello 90's computer guy
Juan Gray
Depends on the board - my latest board you use slots 2 and 4 (ie furthest from cpu not closest). Consult your mboard manual.
Jack Gomez
ye ill do that where do i get the name of the motherboard, ill just use that speccy program
Ok, now you have two separate blocks of text. Next time you could also use a period after a sentence. Wrong ram slots could mean no dual channel, or slower (MHz, CL) memory.
Nolan Smith
thought as much
Nicholas Cook
look up your RAM, make sure its dual / quad channel
Landon Bailey
ah how about this then? so it is in the right place?
Depends If your ram is dual channel. But personally I would't care, just put it back where it was.
Liam Diaz
This, two RAM sticks need to be "matched" to run properly in dual channel mode, so that could be the reason it doesn't work.
Manual recommends using the two gray slots for two sticks.
Jose Murphy
Just put the ram in the first two slots and your pc will work normally
Jayden Flores
ye i noticed i read it wrong now, fucking weird how it doesnt work if i do that though
Jace Butler
No, that won't work, he needs to type deltree /y C:\
Jonathan Myers
depends entirely on what twisted fucked up manufacturer of your motherboard decided to do. read the fucking manual.
Adrian Lopez
1080 and a water cooled cpu. You'd think user would know something about computers with this kind of setup. I bet he doesnt even overclock
Ayden Powell
Dude. Put them in A2 and B2. It isn't that hard. Make sure it double snaps. The first time I reinstalled my ram I didn't push it hard enough. So only one side clicked in. But u have to put in in slot 2 and 4. not 1 and 3. And 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 is for single channel.
Bentley Reed
Lol first time I installed it backward and ended up fried it
