>Army is where the great unwashed go
former Army here. I know great unwashed is just an expression but in some cases it's the literal truth.
23 years old dude. College programming degree but can't find a job for shit...
It's in the name, "Office-r". They tend to handle more of the administrative side of things, which has either a plus or a negative, depending on your perspective. There's a lot of time spent indoors, working on paperwork, sorting out your subordinates.
Typical school reimbursement is 2k a year, for 4 years, for a max of 8k. UNLESS the CAF has a special program for your special trade they're interested in.
If you want your current education to get grandfathered in, ask about a PLAR. (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition). It's what they use for comparable skills in the civilian world. Like if you're an underwater welder and want to weld on ships, or some shit like that.
if you dont mind a few years of really well practiced brainwashing, then you can go see combat. and if you dont bleed to death fighting for a cause that you dont fully understand, then you get to live with the memory of watching your friends do just that.
nobody i know has come out sane.
my friends just keep od'ing on h.
and blowing their brains out.
it sucks.
but i mean you get to shoot kebabs.
Been in the Caf for about a year and a half now. It's honestly an amazing time, I've met great people and have friends from all over the country now. I'm gonna leave after my initial contract is over because i'm stuck in a shitty trade in a shitty unit with a CoC who could care less about the troops wellbeing. If you join you'll have a good go bud, the benefits and time off are well worth the dumbshit you'll have to put up with.
