Apple

Because then your computer would be very, very expensive and would never be able to "save" data.

I bet a woman wrote this question LOL

"If car engine is so fast why isn't whole car made of engine?"

Alternatively, "if the black box can survive an airplane crash why not make the entire airplane out of the black box material?"

RAM is actually painfully slow. CPU is much faster.

If Sonic is so fast why isn't the whole computer made of Sonic?

RAM is only meant to store instructions for the CPU, it's job is not speed but space.

mind blown

Because then it's too fast to use, man.

Wrong. RAM stores instructions and data as well, but that is all irrelevant because this is the claim from OP:
> If computer RAM is so fast why isn't the whole computer made of RAM?

Furthermore, you can't even run the instructions from the RAM directly because it would be way too slow, you run the instructions from the CPU cache because it's actually much faster than the RAM.

RAM isn't fast, it's slow.

This post brought to you by LOGFAG.

So... you are saying that... speed is not the purpose of RAM... but is instead there to store instructions for the CPU.

K.

No I am not saying that at all. You just can't read.

So is the RAM faster than the CPU then?

Learn 2 code faggot

It isn't faster than the CPU, but your definition of what's the purpose of RAM is still incorrect. Way to miss the point as well.

OP: If RAM is so fast...
Me: It isn't
You: It's purpose isn't to be fast

Are you beginning to understand your retardation or are you too retarded even for that?

You are the retard here assuming there are only 2 people in this thread.

Okay so RAM is slow and it calculates instructions for the CPU?

This is some nice bashing but why not elaborate the topic?

Attached: rpj8nq3o2wk21.png (640x481, 350K)

I used "OP", "Me" and "You". That's already more than 2 people. Go be a retard somewhere else.

>calculates
No. It simply stores the instructions for the CPU. Make your computers out of CPUs.

Please tell me what RAM does.

So if it stores instructions for the CPU it's faster. Because it can hold more instructions than the CPU can. If the CPU can't take as many instructions as RAM then by definition it's slower.

It is slow, but it doesn't calculate anything.

It doesn't store the instructions for the CPU. It stores data. Data can be instructions but can be also anything else. It doesn't only store instructions.

What do you want to know? It goes back a bit.

In the 8 bit era, RAM and CPU were running at the exact same clock speeds and the CPU was even slower than RAM in some cases. But back then the amount of RAM was small and the frequencies were small too, so that could work. As time went on, the need for RAM increased exponentially so they couldn't keep up with the faster CPU clocks anymore without it becoming too expensive for consumers. At this point (16 bit machines) instruction caches appeared first on the CPU where you could store loops for execution, later data caches were added as well to make data access faster as well. Then they started adding several layers of cache as the speed difference between the CPU and the RAM grew. Currently the RAM itself is much slower than the CPU. Not sure what else you want to know.

How long until these nerds realise that they're gettng baited?

You just said the CPU is slower. So you should be using RAM instead of the CPU because it takes in more instructions. Also you can have multiple RAMs running in parallel. CPUs can't do that. I don't understand why you keep defending CPUs over RAM.

You have a very strange concept of how computers work.

Not instructions for the CPU's operation, instructions for the CPU to follow. Be it calculations, drawing to the screen, or even storing a number in another location in memory. Or writing to a hard drive. All of these are instructions to the CPU. Yes, it can store raw DATA, but this DATA will be used by the CPU in one way or another and will be instructed to do so by RAM.

It's just an excuse to talk about tech, faggot.

No your just getting b8ted. (Typing this on RAM only computer btw)

>not using raw electricity to directly write to the internet
Never gonna make it.

But then how does RAM computes what the CPU stores there? You're making 0 sense.
Read again what you just said here You're contradicting yourself

l2read

Not true. Especially on systems where CPU isn't the only thing accessing memory. Some of it might be used by GPU but written by CPU, some might be used by some custom chips. Your definition is way to narrow. RAM stores data and that's it.

So you don't understand how computers work? They take in instructions from mouse/keyboard. These instructions are processed by the RAM/CPU. CPUs can't take as many instructions as RAM. That's why you shouldn't be wasting resources on the CPU.

You quoted 2 different people in that post.

RAM doesn't compute anything. Just stores "dayta" like this faggot says. But that dayta could be instructions. This way HE is correct and I'm a complete retard. Hold on, my RAM is acting up.

It stand for Read A fucking web article Motherfucker

This is why I use my typewrite to post on Yea Forums

I thought it stood for Random Access Memory, but I've been wrong before.

So one poster was the CPU and another one was the RAM, checkmate atheist
Then why when I bought my GPU i read everywhere that I didnt need 8gb Vram cause my RAM would make my GPU better and 6gb was ok? The RAM does calculations just not CPU ones

If GPUs are so fast why not make computers out of GPUs?

Exactly what I'm saying dude

I believe you're asking something along the lines of:
>"Why do we use hard drives instead of RAM if RAM transfers information faster?"
To answer, there are forms of RAM that store information, and there are even Linux distros out there small enough to fit and run on those.

Yo shut up, nerd. Make the computer out of GPUs.

It's because of the following. Look at some things ordered by speed:
your brain, a snail at half speed, an ant, HDD drives, RAM, CPU/GPU.

The more stuff you move towards the end of that list, the faster things get.

That is why you dont have to trust jews

So if GPU are fastest why do we even use CPUs? Is it because of bitcoin?

It's actually a power usage issue.

That is actually a legit question. GPUs are far superior compared to CPUs when it comes to more and more things - and not just graphics related stuff. If there would be no legacy software and if I could make a computer of my own design from scratch, it is quite possible I would start with a GPU.

>cringe

Attached: referenzlayout_voodoo_590.jpg (1000x453, 373K)

That, legacy software and missing instructions on GPUs. But making a GPU only machine isn't as stupid as people might think.

It happened already, and it's still going on. They are called Consoles. Building a computer around a graphics card is generally a "gaming console."

What do you mean? Not enough power?
What about industrial sized batteries? Are pc scientist retards?

gr8 b8 m8 i r8 8/8

Well, 9 out of 10 people aren't buying a GTX 2080 to do blender renders.

> A library can hold more information than a person can. Therefore a library is faster than a person. So why don't we get rid of all the people and build societies consisting of only libraries.

its called the internet

Guess who just got fucking told by

If Superman is so strong, why isn't the computer made out of 100% Non-Rbst Superman?

kek, that was a hell of-a comeback.

cuz ex-pensive

>If computer L2-Cache is so fast why isn't the whole computer made of L2-Cache?

you faggots are fucking retarded lmao

dat sounds like a movie

If donut is so full of energy, why not eat only donut?

RAM is slow as fuck. you gotta get yourself some SSDRAM bro. that shit will make your pc at least like 0.01% faster at least. and the boot time? pffft forget, your PC is practically always booted.

We've already established the entire computer should be made from L2-cache

Ok, think of yourself wearing a backpack. A CPU is more or less your brain. RAM is your arms. The backpack is a HDD/SSD.
All more RAM does is give you more arms to take shit from the backpack.

But 32 arms can grab stuff faster than 2 arms, you are just proving his point about RAM being faster than CPUs, get better analogies.

You stupid retarded faggots really will argue about anything haha

But what decides what to do with everything in all the hands. The brain, or CPU. You will always need a CPU, or Main Chip.

You can only tell 1 arm to do one thing at a time, by the time you have told the first arm to grab something and moved onto the next arm, your first arm will have already grabbed the item and will be ready for new instructions. Pretty sure this is why we only have 2 arms to begin with. Your entire analogy is just falling to pieces.

you fucking retard
computers are made out of cache

If having a large cooking table lets me prepare meals faster, why not make the whole kitchen a table?
