you're correct, the (artificial) difficulty design of ER is trash. it isn't fun to roll 15 times before you're allowed to attack once.

If you learn the hitboxes you can attack during their combos instead of waiting for them to stop attacking entirely. Hope that helps :^)

I just let Melina weaken him because I wanted to progress her quest and didn't give a fuck about another Margit fight. Genuinely surprised at how fucking annoying his moveset was. I have work and shit so it was nice beating him my second try that way, but I could tell immediately that this isn't the kind of boss I want to grind out for hours. Fuck him.

Margit/Morgott are the most well designed fights in ANY fromsoft game
There are plenty of terrible bossfights with bullshit mechanics but Margit is not one of them

I watched Malenia do her fucking Sephiroth Tsubame Gaeshi Form 9 Final Judgement katana folded over 10 million times attack as my game stuttered, and when I went for the punish after her final sword flash surrounded her, she casually jumped away to avoid my attack.

That right there is when I knew this game was milky dog shit. Elden Ring is a massive downgrade compared to Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, and Sekiro. This game is From Software bending over and breaking their own spine to sniff their own asshole.

How exactly are you interacting with bosses in other souls games besides attacking and dodging?

Even then he still has that dogshit attack with the sword where he becomes a big, impossible to challenge hitbox and you have to run away while he's chasing you

Sekiro has a posture mechanics and Bloodborne has trading hits with Rally and the ability to parry any attack even from non-humanoids.

I don't know why people were pissy about Dark Souls 3 though. You can stagger enemies easily and the rolls are the fastest they've ever been. That one was an extremely weird case that I still don't understand today. I think 3 is perfect with its bosses where as ER is fucking bonkers and too ridiculous.

Stack the heaviest armor and talismans, take endure on a giant weapon, do charge attacks. You can just tank all the hits.

Elden ring has magic, effective shields, summons and weapon arts. Poise is still a mechanic, just unaffected by blocking. You can also unlock bloodborne style rallying later, though its not very good.

The games are dreadful; the combat is terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time a fight occured, the designers made you roll and attack to beat the enemy.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time a fight relied on rolling and attacking. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. FromSoftware's minds are so governed by mundane gameplay loops that they have no other style of game design. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Elden Ring. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing Elden Ring at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read George R.R. Martin" And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play Soulsborne games you are, in fact, trained to read George R.R. Martin.

Yeah the flurry attack is unpunishable. It's really the only boss that is legitimately unfair and stupid. If they are going to make her do that attack then at least let me punish her when I successfully dodged it

The disappointing part is that spastic undodgeable boss attacks turns every boss into "rush down their HP with bleed/frost and kill them before they kill you", which is extremely underwhelming and doesn't make for memorable fights.

I could do all those bosses with an ultra greatsword without having to be restricted by spamming a single move because all of them had openings.
ER ultra greatsword gameplay is poke and jump attack spam for 200 hours.
