DOOM Thread
What are you bros playing up until Eternal? I'm playing Doom64EX for the first time and it's fucking awesome, probably better than Doom 2.
Post favorite games, wads, whatever

Just bought all three earlier today on Switch. Even if I don’t like them I’m only out 5 bucks lmao
Have fun user, Doom 1 is the best of the bunch, but neither 2 or 3 are exactly bad either.
I think you'll know by the end of E1 if classic Doom is for you. You still might like 3 though, since it's way more cinematic than the first two.
Cool, what’s E1? I’ve played a little of the 1st one and thought it was fun
Episode 1: Knee Deep in The Dead
FWIW; Doom levels are referred to by episode title, followed by whatever number map in that episode it is. So E1M1 is Episode 1, Map 1.
I finished up the Doom 3 port on Switch. It was okay. About what I remember when I played it on PC a few years ago.
Episode 1. The first game is split up into 4 groups of 8 maps and a secret.
Doomfag here, ill post my list of Doom mods I consider either personal favorites or just essential to try out once (see Brutal Doom). If you're new to Doom then download the base games, download your source port of choice, then download ZDL to boot up multiple mods at once

2016. I'm at the Vega part. This one room sucks dick. Everything is cramped and there's 9000000 demons. I'm gonna be forced to use the BFG I guess
Is it weird that I feel more inclined to play wads if they're added on the Switch version? Double Impact was pretty great and the music in the second map is fucking incredible. It's also how I played Sigil and The Master Levels. Maybe it's just cause playing Doom in bed is comfy in a weird way. I just wish wads would be added faster.
MOONMAN MOONMAN CAN'T YOU SEE
Awesome list doombro, I'll check these out
>Demonsteele
based as fuck
John romero said
Using oblige to create some maps for fun, but this creator has the bad tendency to spam the fuck out of revenants everywhere, all the time.
Just shut down the core. Man the soundtrack of this game really can't be understated the electrobeat during that part was kino as fuck and the fact doomguy hesitated and backed up vega shows he's not a dumbass gorilla like everyone thinks. This game is awesome man. It did drag a bit during hell but man I think I'm almost done with the game and it's picking up again so hopefully it goes out with a bang
I'm playing Double Impact on the Switch, but I'm having trouble getting past the penultimate level on the controller.
On the PC, I'm playing Doom64 for GZDoom and Eviternity.
Also, I'm playing Doom 2016 again on the Nightmare difficulty. I played the first three maps today and the game is exactly what I remembered: satisfying to play, but very focused on arena battles that have no tactics / strategies at all. It's basically a reflex test while you keep moving and jumping on the arena making the best use of your entire arsenal. It's not bad, but I personally find the classic formula much more interesting.
Had a lot of fun with hellforged, which mods are similar to that?
Playing Brutal DOOM 2. It's amazing.
I played through all the mainline Doom games in hype of Doom Eternal. Finally got to play through Master Levels for Doom 2 and all of Doom 3.
I was gonna replay Doom 2016 next, but I think I'll save that closer to Doom Eternal's release date. I started early so incase I got burnt out, it wouldn't bleed into Doom Eternal.
So I'm playing a bit of Death Foretold through Whispers of Satan for now.
>master levels
Those were added for the re-release right? I don't remember that when I played the older doom games a long time ago
I'm playing D44M for the first time. Only finished the first 2 maps and I dunno how I feel about it. It's not as instantly fun as OG Doom was. The level design seems okay I suppose? I like the exploration incentives, but the automap is perhaps a simplifying it a bit too much. The combat feels kinda cruddy and messy because of all the ledges to climb and various things that get in the way of strafing, but maybe I just need to get more used to it. I also had to instantly turn off motion blur, increase FOV and disable v-sync. How the fuck is this shit on by default, do devs not want players to have a good experience?
I don't think so, no, Final Doom was but not Master Levels.
Master Levels is an officially licensed set of individual levels, excluding one that has a secret levels. They were all unreleased community levels that ID picked up.
I wish they would have Doom 64 out a week before release to play that while waiting.. fuck I might just end up playing Doom 64 on March 20 instead of eternal
It's the same effect as when you are going to play emulators and have all the games on all consoles available and do not know exactly where to start, look at the list of infinite games and in the end do not play any of them.
In the case of Doom on Switch, each new WAD added is like an "event". And your objective is very clear, simply to beat all the maps that the guys are offering you.
Brutal Doom veteran here.
Beat every level on Ultra Violence (Hardest difficulty).
A lot of people bitch about Brutal Doom but they've never actually played it. It is in all ways superior. If I were you I'd just play Brutal Doom. It will probably be better than Eternal.
Hmm you're probably right. I probably played them and don't remember. Maybe I'll replay the old doom games soon to refresh my memory
I've played Brutal Doom
Vanilla is still better, BD isn't bad though
What difficulty are you playing on?
Enjoying some comfy operation with Hideous Destructor. The custom chamber Boss is a load of fun and actually halfway decent.
Most Master Levels are quite forgettable. I don't think it's worth it, unless it's out of nostalgia. There are a plethora of better megawads out there.
I honestly want bethesda to make a Doom Roguelike with in-game cosmetics/trophies/ animal crossing style furniture system where you just keep playing maps and earn points and you eventually win cool shit like a demon shotgun skin, demon chair, sexy demon posters, demon suit, demon guitar.
Like just make doom into a base game with 3 room keys and random rooms with random monsters/traps and after every level you go back to the home base.
Also just keep to the original style with 90s aesthetic horror movies with gore/darkness/demonic imagery
Please just make this game and I'll love you guys forever.
Ultra-violence
I mostly just remember the black tower and not much else
That sounds like eternal. With the suit unlocks and replaying levels
I'm surprised there hasn't been an attempt to make a Total Conversion out of DoomRL. Don't count on Bethesda making anything worthwhile though.
Controller?
No.
I'd say it gets more fun once you get past the first few levels when you have more than just shotgun and imps and zombies. Really picks up with Hell Knights and getting more weapons and mods.
Haven't been on Yea Forums in probably 6 years and this is on the first page, ty based doombro
>The combat feels kinda cruddy and messy because of all the ledges to climb and various things that get in the way of strafing,
The game's combat is one-note, in my opinion, and you need to learn to navigate the arenas in the best possible way. Jumping on ledges is part of the combat experience, so don't try to avoid them and learn to use them to your advantage.
The battle is super frantic and immersive and in the highest difficulties it is quite satisfactory. But at least for me, at the end of the game section the impression is that the game does not offer something substantial...
There's DoomRL Arsenal. I imagine the hard part is tying a random level generator to GZDoom.
Well I should probably mention level design doesn't get really crazy until you get about halfway through the game but then it gets crazy. Tunnels and multilayered areas galor. Also you should probably get used to climbing ledges. There's a lot of that. It's usually pretty damn forgiving. You just have to aim in the general direction of a ledge. It can be finicky at times though. There's an upgrade to speed it up in the suit menu. The map isn't nearly as useful as you think until you fully upgrade the map in the suit menu either. You'll still miss plenty of secrets unless you're checking it 24/7 and some secrets dont even show on the map.
I was exited when I heard they have a homebase. I hope there's a lot of unlocks for it.
Even at the minimum if they just made it so you have to kill 1000 demons to get like a yellow, blue, red, green, orange skin for each weapon and just have a shit ton of skins that would be good for me. Give me shit to do while I wait for you next game. Make it worth my time to play your game.
GIVE ME INCENTIVE!!!
Thanks for the feedback lads. The thing I don't like about ledges is that I have to grab them to get up, which interrupts my shooting and leaves me open to getting shot, which feels very un-Doomlike to me. But I also feel like I have to do this a lot because my best weapon at the moment is the shotgun and I have to keep getting close to enemies, so maybe when I get other weapons it wont bother me as much. If the ledges were a bit lower so that I could simply jump on them without having to grab onto them I'd be more okay with them. I saw that there is an upgrade for faster ledge climbing as well which will make it better I guess, but that should just be in from the start if you ask me. Anyway I'm just gonna get back to the game now.
Borderline can't tell if you're joking but yeah that's the point of the tagline "eternal". They want it to be played for a long time because we likely won't get another doom game for a while
I'm playing Quake for the first time in years Yea Forums!
Do you actually know what's going to give it good replayability?
Not shitting on you but this post reminds me of the ledge complaints in old monhun threads. Really interesting to see how something overlooked by most can make or break a game for others. Probably some interesting psychological studies to be found in there.
Didn't play the Metro Exodus DLC's yet, I think I'm gonna replay the game and then the DLC, I've already ordered the new Ori, if I have time I'll at least start it before the 20th
Well they've redone multiplayer completely and they added the ripatorium so you can literally just boot that up if you finished the campaign and just wanna kill some demons. There's plenty of unlocks including cosmetics in the hub too. Then there's master levels. It's a lot. They want you to be playing for a while. They said the campaign is gonna be somewhat longer in this one too if I remember correctly.
just some 2016 multiplayer, pretty fun actually. hopefully eternal has other multiplayer modes besides the 2v1
Try Demonsteele with the map pack Hellbound user, that might be what you're looking for
Go for it user, I recommend trying Thunderpeak using your weapon pack of choice. It only contains 2 levels but they are massive and the maps are so polished and generally fun that Thunderpeak has became my go-to for trying out new weapon packs or gameplay overhauls
Thanks user! Which mods are you currently playing through? Im always interesting in trying out something that I may have overlooked
Thanks.
I’m playing Doom 2 again.
Anybody recommend any decent themed TCs?
>just looked it up
>sure as shit they're all on sale
Fuck it, that's perfect timing. Gonna buy them all tomorrow, bros
I've been playing through 2016 for the first time. Game is fucking kino.
Final Doomer is a pretty good weapon set too. Especially when you play the maps the matching weapon sets.
How about Doom 4 Vanilla?
I heard about project brutality, and it looks cool. Really. Well doom-like game with cool but oldschool graphics.
ZOOM Eternal
Can anyone suggest some good episode-length wads that can be blasted through in one sitting? I like to kick back and play co-op with some buddies now and then, but slugging through a full 32-map megawad can get tough since we're all boomers and our schedules don't line up often. Having some fun 7- to 10-map wads to bring to the table would be much smoother.
see the list Thats been in my backlog for months user, thanks for reminding me about it
Ill give it a download and try it out tonight user, thanks for the recommendation
Enjoy user, if you arent planning on playing it vanilla id recommend playing Project Brutality along with the map pack Deus Vult. Seems like a fitting combination to me at least
Try "The Joys of Mapping" series. Each one comes with 4 thematic episodes that can be played through in a couple hours. Last Christmas Eve my friends and I played through the Winter Weekend one and it was a blast
Kuchitsu is pretty cozy.
Glad I could help. Hope you like it.
Reminder to play Sigil and No Rest for the Living.
And reminder to play Sigil on HMP. Romero is a huge dick, and doesn’t fuck around with when it comes to UV.
I'm actually hoping the devs hide some small object that says zoom eternal in the game just to fuck with you guys. I'd laugh my ass off
Just started through Doom 1 on ZDoom.
Such a timeless game.
why can't I stop playing Diabolus Ex? It's so fucking good, are there any other wads like this?
>compatible with chocolate doom, crispy doom, prboom+, zdoom, gzdoom, zandronum, eternity engine, doomsday, and msdos
>100% dehacked
>custom textures
>bright maps in software mode
>eviternity
Um... based police?
Project Brutality >>>> Brutal Doom
I do agree on BD being an upgrade over vanilla, though. There's something about the way the guns fire that feels so satisfying.
Glad I could remind you. It’s pretty good, and it has 9 classes as of now.
I've been playing through Blood for the first time and I've already decided it's better than duky nuky 3d
>Vanilla
>Plutonia
>TNT
>Ancient Aliens
>JPCP
>BTSX
>Hellbound
>Alien Vendetta
>Whitemare
been playing ion maiden, wishing they remade duke 3d and doom and blood and shadow warrior and dark forces all on that engine with much bigger levels and more details
>boss music starts playing
>i am the boss.
ya basically every 2.5d game, would love to see rpg features added to it, or maybe a big sprawling openish world like shadowrun for the genesis or snes
Add Alien Vendetta to the list and Scythe and I approve it. SF12 can be quite bullshit at times
>doom
>remade on the build engine
well its more like zduke than regular build, huge connecting maps with backtracking, stupidly complex level design allowed, room over room,
unironically a pretty fun wad
hitler>moonman>ben
Yeah. It’s basically a heavily modified version of eduke32.
Bought the original Doom games for my Switch because they were on sale.
Holy shit this fucking sucks, lel. I forgot how infuriating it is to play a shooter with a controller. The lighting and the audio are fucked up as well, or perhaps I just have been spoiled by GZDoom.
In all honesty though, I feel like I can't complain. The games were dirt cheap.
Hey listbro, are there any wads for this feel? atmospheric, gloomy, urban environments? emphasis on urban
Thank you for your posts listbro.
Demonsteele, along with the other mods made by the same guy, have been some of the most fun I've had with a videogame.
>update 2.0 brings in lots of content
>emg mark v pistol, hellshot, heavy assault rifle, vortex rifle, grenade launcher, lightning gun, gauss canon, and reaper from doom 2016
>ability to make your own custom load out with regular and extra weapons
I am once again restarting Doom 3, hoping I don't drop it after some hours this time.
I don't even despise it, it's just that every time I play it something else distracts me
Not Listbro, but off the top of my head Hellcore 2.0's map 02 is pretty great for that feeling, and After the Holocaust is also pretty good.
I only started on 2016 today and so far it seems like it's almost trying to be like a better doom 3. The plot so far is similar too.
Fun Fact: Samuel Hayden in 2016 is actually a scrapped character from Doom 3, named General Hayden.
Mutiny is good for gloomy atmosphere with some urban environments but it also has cyberpunk influence. Ashes 2063 has a nice desert/urban/Metro feel to it and some of the levels on it may scratch the it, plus its short and sweet so you can beat it in a few hours
I'm not listbro, but what you want are Russian Realism wads. Stuff like Sacrament and A.L.T.
youtu.be
Go play TrumpDoom
it's unironically really fucking fun, feels kinda reminiscent of Duke3D
Whichever one of you fuckers recommended Doom in Name Only will burn in hell for your trickery.
>Death and Restart
So what are you supposed to do if you die? Just stop playing?
I only bought 1 as I have no intentions on playing Doom 2 with a controller. Shame as I actually prefer 2 gameplay over 1.
It has no lasting appeal. It plays like a worse Half-Life.
fucking reload your quicksave
Monster Hunter Ltd. (mohu1.wad and mohu2.wad)
The stigma of random wads set it back a long time.
>E4M2: Perfect Hatred
Why is this a thing?
To make you Romero's bitch.
Sigil is way more fun on UV.
Any wads like guncaster where you don’t play as a human?
>until Eternal
I downloaded Brutal Doom and Brutal Doom 64, and that's my first expierence with the series besides a couple hours of Doom 3 and Doom 2016.
>first experience
>using massive gameplay altering mods
And you're still gonna play eternal? Doesn't even sound like you enjoy the games, man
> there hasn't been an attempt to make a Total Conversion out of DoomRL
Erm, hello?
store.steampowered.com
How do I get my brutal Doom to look like this?
I do, I'm having more fun with Brutal Doom than I did with Doom 2016. They just get kind of repetitive after a couple of hours.
For me it's High Noon Drifter
That make the game better than the originals in every single way.
Oh, you're just shitposting. Got it.
Name 3 things better about the original Doom that Brutal Doom doesn't improve on
Going Down, Eviternity and Sunlust were all fantastic.
Astral Cacodemons are the scariest motherfuckers alive, I'm really glad they weren't overused in that WAD.
Master Levels are included in the recent console port of Doom 2. Final Doom is a downloadable add-on, but for Master Levels you just go to start a new game from Doom 2 and the prompt will let you choose between Hell on Earth and the Master Levels.
His efforts are appreciated, fuck you John Romero.
Weapon balance
Not being a bloated, feature-crept mess
Whatever the fuck this is
Going Down
I remember there was an overhaul that added a shit ton of extra enemies, like a cyber baron and a floating flaming baron and for the fucking life of me I can’t remember what it was called.
Am I delusional and misremembering or did it actually exist?
BD annihilate the original balance, degrades the sound and forces you to play with a disgusting freelook.
Also got them all on Switch. Downloaded the add-ons in the first and second except for the ones that overlap. Was there any reason to download the ones that are available on both for one over the other? Like should I have added Plutonia to Doom II instead of the original?
And now the tards are waking up.
The two ports are running on the same engine, so you aren't missing anything if you play Plutonia through Doom 1 instead of 2. Plutonia and TNT themselves were standalone games to begin with.
You might be thinking of Valiant, it has enemies like you're describing.
Hearts of Demons: Baron is very nice, going mano a mano with another baron is satisfying as fuck.
Thanks. Pretty excited. I've played the first and second but only the base games. None of the stuff added later on. Decided to start with 3 last night since I had zero experience with it. Very different but not bad.
Wait what's wrong with free look? Isn't it objectively better to have free mouse look with an fps? It isn't 1994 anymore
Freelook absolutely destroys a lot of Doom's encounters.
Playing through nu-doom at the moment because I never finished it before and Eternal looks bretty gud. I'd barely played PC FPS games the last time I tried and it was a real slog, much more fun this time round now I can aim.
>Wait what's wrong with free look?
There’s nothing wrong with it by itself, it’s using it to snipe enemies outside the aim assist range.
This is my deathless run of Doom 1 Episode 1 on Nightmare! difficulty. I uploaded it to youtube just now :)
youtube.com
I want people to have access to videos that showcase Doom in its classic look as well as Doom with fancy-looking mods so that newfriends can decide which source port they want to run Doom on. This run was completed on GZDoom (a modern source port with OpenGL graphics/lighting) using mods that do not change the gameplay, just the look of the game. I will upload soon my run performed using Crispy Doom as well, a source port that is designed to keep the original look of the game.
Brutal Doom is definitely fun, good for getting people started, but the original Doom levels are even funner to play using the classic Doom controls/weapons. I first completed Doom on Nightmare! using Brutal Doom, and it took me dozens of hours of grinding to finally accomplish the feat on vanilla Doom.
Brutal Doom needs to be played with freelook, the pump-action slam-fire absolutely depends on it, but the vanilla Doom levels are better with the vanilla rules: no vertical aiming and with auto-aim. Autoaim sounds easy at first, but it causes your rockets to miss more often because you cannot manually lead any more, the game automatically aims at the center of mass of your target regardless if it is strafing or not, but the level balance has this in mind so you have enough ammo to miss a few shots.
Friendly reminder that you can download a ton of retro FPS games from the links provided in the Doom threads on /vr/, pic related
Guys, there is a way to play Doom 1 or Doom 2 online coop with a friend?
Been playing through Brutal Doom with THE biggest grin on my fucking face. Can't stop cackling.
Zandronum
Are there any good cyberpunk maps/wads? I wanna go batshit on futuristic demons while dark electronic music blasts.
I prefer D4T over Brutal Doom. I think DTWID 1 and 2 are actually perfect for D4T if any of you guys try it out.
this was his PR, Romero and carmack pirated and still pirate games since then.
ALSO DOOM 3 BFG IS SHIT AND THE WADS DOESNT EVEN FUCKING WORK
No clue.
I'll probably play gta and dab on cargoshitters or finish my nightmare playtrough in d44m.
Feels good to have something to play so close.
why do people keep pretending Doom 2 is good?
Its the weakest of all the games.
Sure it has cool additions like the new monsters, but sorry but as good as the super shotgun is, arguably a bad addition because of how strong and broken it is.
Maps are fucking garbage and it has no sense of progression like Doom 1 does.
I love Project Brutality so much.
Name your favorite song, favorite map, and your opinion on Nu-Doom (not a novel's length).
>Shawn's Got the Shotgun
>Refueling Base
>I like it. bretty good
At Doom's Gate
Slough of Despair
I like it a a LOT. Nightmare is a helluva challenge.
DOOM > DOOM 2016 = DOOM 64 > DOOM 2 > DOOM 3
Fuck me, the monster closet at the end of Central Processing on Brutal Doom was a fucking riot
Well it can be called bad cause so far its one of the only real sequels.
Not counding doom 64 and whatever the fuck there is.
DOOM = DOOM 2 = DOOM 3 = DOOM 64 = DOOM 2016
Imps Song.
Moody doom is best doom
Dont really like how it looks, HUD is eyebleeding horrible, combat looks super gimmicky. and it seems to ignore the flaws of Doom 4.
The SSG isn't even on that many maps in 2. Try it again with pistol starts.
Where would Plutonia and TNT go? For me:
Doom > Doom 2016 = Doom 64 > Plutonia > Doom 2 > TNT > Doom 3
>Forgettable
You mean bad. Alot of them are just bad. For fuck sakes Bad Dreams is just a gimmick crusher level and nothing else. Black Tower/Titan Manor and escape from Titan are pretty much the only stand outs. I suppose Attack is a good map 1 but that is all it is.
To be fair, in some interviews one of the devs said that he wants to fix some Doom 2016 problems, such as the fact that there are very empty areas between the arena battles or something like that.
But yes, the combat is looking super gimmick. Often the game looks genuinely like Metroid Prime (game purposefully super focused on gimmicks).
Well the hud can change colors in few ways and since they made the game engine more flexible there should be mods in the first week / 2 weeks after relase to change the colors to your liking and after a bit there should be entire section of huds to pick.
I dunno how the combat looks gimmicky its run and gun and thats that.
I think they've done a decent job at fixing the entire arena thing the slow movement speed ect. Though if they were to take it to a perfection they wouldn't make the game into a linear one but that's just too much cause that would just not be profitable.
>Played on Hurt me Plenty
>Claimed to have played Doom before
>His responses/reactions to things as well as not just holding down the fucking sprint button eternally prove otherwise.
>All the save scumming at horrible 10-20% life moments then whining about getting killed "instantly"
Its comical that if DSP played on UV he would've gotten filtered by vanilla Doom 2. The only part id agree with him on is how i've always hated the Icon of Sin maps since without save scumming i've never been good at the rocket timing and the maps themselves are usually nothing burgers.
Yes, I was trying to be polite so as not to look like a hater or something, but The Master Levels in general is just bad. That level with four Icon of Sins is one of the worst levels I've ever played.
And I found it curious that I came back to the thread exactly the same time as you replied to a message I wrote yesterday.
>main gaming console is Switch
>mainly play Doom games on Switch
>can't get used to M+KB controls no matter how hard I try, feels too unnatural to me
>PC is shitty and probably can't run Eternal
>Switch version is delayed
>probably will have to dust off old shitty Playstation 4 just to play Eternal
sucks
How about no rest for the living?
I think the correct grammar is Icons of Sin.
That is included. NRFTL is also a pretty damn good episode and ends with a actual not great but regular level instead of Icon of Sin crap. Vivisection can be annoying as shit though.
What did everyone think of SIGIL? Was pretty fucking brutal on UV.
NRftL is legitimately the best set of official levels for Doom 2, beating the base game, Master Levels, and Final Doom.
Vivisection is the best map.
Sigil pissed me off greatly. Then once you learn each of the levels gimmicks/secrets it becomes super easy or barely a challenge. Almost every time a cyber demon is introduced its usually killed with a gimmick besides M9/M7/M6. I cannot say the levels were bad per say but fuck i hate how polarizing it feels where you can slog through them are feel like shit and once you do a run and learn where all the secrets are you essentially are decked out and its hardly an issue.
>Alright, I killed them al- OH NO!
I feel the exact opposite: Sigil is a modern masterpiece.
I mean i don't dislike it quality wise but fuck it can seem so long and fucking up is a time sink to me. One thing i do enjoy though is how just about all if not all of the NRFTL levels give you a SSG and feel like they were definitely designed for pistol start not just to be possible but in mind.
I mean im sort of agreeing. First time through i was very upset in alot of regards. Then each level i've pistol started after learning the secret layout of i've enjoyed a good deal. Id say the only level i've left to do is unspeakable pers from pistol start.
Id only make a case that the secret level pistol start feels gimmick with the ammo needed to kill the cyber demon being slightly past his part and i've always disliked using the cyber demon as a sort of hazard. Where as the ones in earlier levels are killed with teleporter tricks.
They're going to continue supporting it with dlc and free updates for at least a couple years to come.
The joy of playing it? I still play Doom 1 and Doom 2 with innumerable PWADs.
hell yeah. looks like you got the texture filtering turned off too. I love that game and many people will tell you thats the best single player quake, but I personally love q2 more. If you decide to go to q2 after q1, make sure to get the music working.
Based and informational-pilled
I replayed most of the Doom games over the last month. Now I'm replaying Turok.
Complex Doom?
I Sawed the Demons.
God bless it's drums.
Oh fuck the thread is still up
What are some good WADs for Project Brutality or Brutal Doom? Playing through the original maps with BD or PB just feels like cheating.
Try Maps of Chaos. It's a revamp of the original maps but, well, bigger and more chaotic. Made specifically with BD/PB in mind
Maps of Chaos
Extermination Day
Thanks anons, looking forward to trying these when I get home from work
Been doing a marathon of the series on Ultra-Violence for the past few weeks. Halfway through Doom 4 right now.
why is he jerma985
Is Doom 64 bad? or is just fucking too dark
The only way I can enjoy Q2 over Q1 is with the novelty of RTX, it's like looking at a miniature world with blocky action figures.
It's not bad, just different. Slower paced, darker, moodier, scarier. It's the real DOOM 3
Nightmare is Doom 4's Ultra-Violence, so I hope you're playing it on that.
I really wish they'd announce a Switch date for Eternal. Walmart is doing its usually $10 off new games, but because the Switch version doesn't have a date it's still listed tentatively at $60. I want to pre-order it there to both save $10 and get Doom 64, and the other junk, for free.
>playing Eternal on the Switch
you people are mad
I just bought DOOM for like the 10th time but now on the Switch, along with II and 3.
The more I play of doom 2016, I genuinely dont see how anyone could place this game lower than top 3 doom games if not #1 doom game. It's got a few issues for sure but holy shit it's just a solid package and there's literally always something to do. If eternal is even better than this, then there's almost zero chance eternal doesnt immediately become THE BEST doom game. I guess we'll have to wait until eternal releases though.
>#1DOOM game
I'm finally playing the original one whole, and the thy flesh consumed episode is just fucking bullshit.
But fun bullshit.
Eternal is just perfect.
Gib more hayden.
It's unironically that good but I can see why people might prefer one of the older games as they're faster on average. Doom 2016 doesn't get crazy fast unless you're using the right runes and powerups. Still, unless you hate fun, doom 2016 has to be in your top 3.
>get to play Doom portably
Why not?
Your underage is showing, there's absolutely nothing like turning on your PC and hear E1M1 for the first time, gibbing demons and dodging imp fireballs, you can't compare them.
At the resolution of a postage stamp with roughly the same framerate.
>being this jaded
Switch is probably the best handheld up to this point, and even maybe the best console, playing games on it is a quite different experience.
But 2016 is really fun user.
Eternal will be better.
I like Q2 user but its definitely not as good as the original, that said I've never played the expansion packs for them so I might give them a shot
>#1 Doom game
It's amazing, but it suffers a lot of flaws that become more apparent as I watch more of Eternal.
>weapons are incredibly unbalanced; no reason to use anything but SSG and Gauss Cannon
>while the combat is superb, the exploration and level design is nothing compared to Classic Doom
>no modding support (this is a big one)
>gets pretty repetitive near the end; due to the arena-base combat, they can't expand on the gameplay like old Doom does with larger, more complex levels and puzzles. they can only alter enemy spawns and offer larger arenas
Like I said, it's amazing, but I'd definitely rank it below the original Doom.
Nah you're right. I remember playing Doom when I was younger. It was honestly fun as hell flying around at top speed like a maniac but at this point, speed and maybe some nicely designed levels are all the old games have over 2016.
I'm playing through BTSX but not too sure what to play after that. I've played Plutonia, TNT and Sigil so far.
If it's at Doom 2016's performance on Switch, I'll be ecstatic. Played nearly the whole game in handheld mode, obviously it doesn't look good compared to PC but it's serviceable and a sacrifice well worth making in exchange for being able to play it wherever I want.
Honestly I'm more surprised you're being a graphicsfag in a thread about a barely-3D shooter from 1993.
Excuse me for not accepting an inferior product at the same price.
It's not even about being a graphicsfag, it's about playing a game where you can't see or react to what is going on because the hardware is not powerful enough.
>Into Sandy's City
>Perfect Hatred
>not even close to capturing old doom gameplay, but good nonetheless
Except I could see or react to what is going on just fine. Again, I played through the whole game in handheld, on Nightmare no less.
If the guns are anything like 2016, the ssg isnt as busted as you think. It hits harder but it's slower than the combat shotgun which matters when there are 20 imps in your face. The lack of mods is pretty lame but honestly it feels expected with a modern game these days. Even then I hear rumors that eternal will be better about modding than 2016 was. I actually like exploring in the new games more because the map is actually useful now and doomguy feels way more mobile because of the verticality. It definetly gets repetitive in hell but picks up at the end of the game. I hear the levels in eternal will be bigger so hopefully it doesn't feel repetitive at all.
user it's really not that bad. I played on switch and even turned off aim assist. I could get through the game just fine on ultra violence
UV was a cakewalk in Doom 4.
Oh, no, I meant Doom 2016's flaws become more apparent as I see more of Eternal, because Eternal fixes those flaws. I'm loving how they've made the normal Shotgun a viable choice even with the SSG.
>into sandys city
now were talkin
Yeah i know but surprisingly i hear a decent amount of people in these threads talk about playing on hurt me plenty.
Help me bros, the pre-order has something I actually want
I was reinstalling 2016 doom when I thought to myself how fun it would he with the old sound effects
And then at that EXACT SECOND the Eternal lre-order trailer came up offering EXACTLY THAT
They're using psionics on me, help me anons
To be honest I used the combat over the ssg most of the time in 2016. It was just so much more versatile. It was arguably deadlier up close with the burst mod and still a decent gun at range with the explosive mod.
Pump sg is good but it can't carry you through later levels. The super can.
I'm a chaingun/Tesla cannon main though so what do I know
>want to preorder eternal
>dont want to switch launchers or create accounts just for one game
>its cheaper on bethesda launcher
>steam version still uses bethesda launcher
Fucking hell. I really want to preorder but I don't trust bethesda at all.
Yeah to be honest I dont think either of the shotguns can carry you through later levels. There are too many demons. I always switch to one of the rifles or the chaingun and then switch to the combat when those are empty. Pretty sure even the game knows there are too many demons when there's a ton of BFG ammo on some levels
>I'm not the villain of this story
>Ruins earth by being a fucking retard
I seriously hope he died broken and alone it takes a special type of retard to fuck up TWO planets
Please please PLEASE let there be a boss fight against him.
He's already been taken out, user the demons fragged the shit out of him
Steam version doesn't use the launcher it uses their account for multiplayer.
Yeah why do people say Hayden did nothing wrong? He was literally the cause of everything and ruined Olivia's life. He's an asshole that thinks he knows what's best for humanity just because "muh think good" and because he's effectively immortal now.
But user, what if he looks like that in the trailer because we beat the fuck out of him?
"Everything has clearly gotten out of hand now, yes....but it was worth the risk. I assure you
God that was a satisfying way to start the game, even better to destroy all of his shit while he flips out at you
NuDoom is not good. Don't fall for the memes.
I'm pretty inexperienced in Doom wads and downloaded Going Down on a whim. I really, really shouldn't have gone with UV. But almost half of the mod done, no point in turning back.
Honestly hayden is a really interesting character despite being an asshole. A spin off game starring him would be kino.
Because Doomguy doesn't kill humans, only demons
What was it like watching this when it was brand new?
youtube.com
>LE CONTRARIAN OPINION
As one that did 1 map for Each Joy of Mapping (From 4 and afterwards) i can confirm they are pretty good!
Hayden's clearly alive and connected to a life support system in that shot though. And even if he is dead:
>Doom 2016
>Objective: Kill Olivia Pierce
Uh-huh.
Just finished up Wayfarer.wad, it was nice to take Corvus out for a spin again. That final map is a doozy, though.
>dude just fight these four maulotaurs in an arena with no cover as this magic flying dude who reflects 100% of your projectiles
>oh you survived that? Great, now you can hurt the magic flying dude! And his literally 170 backup dancers
It was hype.
youtube.com
Also this, for the sake of everybody.
Not that guy, but by the time you kill her she was definitely more in the "former human" category.
You don't even kill her. She just jumps into the argent energy. Do we even have confirmation that she died ? I mean doomguy was caught in that too and was just teleported
I just got done with Winter Weekend.
Episode 1 is the best by far, best theme, best set of maps. Definitely recommend.
Episode 2's theme is kind of boring but it has a few surprisingly good maps.
Episode 3's underwater theme is interesting but kind of a pain because there's multiple maps where the gimmick is holding your breath underwater. Still, there's a few good maps here too.
Episode 4 was a slog and while there were some good concepts here it really had that 'ending' feeling to it and as such several of the maps were relentlessly difficult past the point of being fun, so I didn't like it as much.
The thing is Joy of Mapping has little content control because it's an "everyone's welcome" mapping event, so you end up with several babby's first maps and you'll know if it's one of these right away. There's enough high quality stuff in these packs to be worth playing but you have to sit through some crap to get to it.
>GZ
You're just a baby boy, you don't know any better.
Damn Cyberdemon/Tyrant he looks great. Its his best look yet.
>>Yea Forums is that way
Nvm, I thought I was on /vr/. NuDoom is still bad. A cross between serious sam, nushadow warrior and duke nukem forever. Absolutely abysmal.
Any source on that? Since accessing Steam page shows this ugly message
D3 and bayonetta
What do you suggest then, playing the original? I already did that almost 2 decades ago on a pirate CD with like 50 games in it.
hurry up it's the last day
Wasn't she turned into the Spider Mastermind you fight at the end of Doom 4?
It's not possible to compare Doom 2016 with the classic Doom, they are completely different games, just as Doom 3 is a game in its own category.
Doom 2016 is a game of pure action. There is not much tactic or strategy, you need to be in constant motion, be quick, know how to use weapons effectively (for example, changing between certain weapons and mods) and have good reflexes. It's fun but that's the whole game.
Classic doom provokes other stimuli, you are more concerned with positioning, manipulation of enemy AI, resource management, etc. In my view it is considerably more tactical and strategic. And the classic games are more varied (especially if you consider modern megawads), since you can have everything from arenas that require you to be offensive, to claustrophobic places that forces you to be extremely cautious.
Quake requires a Bethesda account as well, but still runs through Steam.
Yeah well now that i replay mine, for me it didn't age very well.
least i am happy for my future maps are at least better!
Use GZDoom only when necessary to run the mod you want.
If you are playing a "vanilla" megawad, give preference to PRBoom +, which is basically the original Doom with improvements in quality of life, graphics, frame rate, etc.
Yes. 2016 Mastermind is Olivia merged with the Aranea Imperatrix. The legs have the same structure and appearance as her mechanical arms and legs. Same thing as Doom Eternal's Icon of Sin, and how it's merged with the Betrayer's son.
Hmm. I'll have to look it up. You might be right
Oh shit. You're right, thanks. Now just the question is: is the deluxe edition worth it or not
Oh, did you have maps in the pack?
Don't get me wrong, none of the maps in Winter Weekend are exactly bad. There's just obvious varying levels of quality - there's people who have never mapped before and people who are veterans and the difference is stark.
Everyone's gotta start somewhere, after all.
Yeah, but being the guy who did E1M2 of JOM4 it definitely knew that i at least felt i have something good with the second area of the place, if only i telegraphed it more... oh well!
JOM5*
i did E3M2 on Jom4
What are some mods like Guncaster and HEDON where you play as a demon/beast?
E1M2 definitely has that 'beginner' quality to it but I liked everything in E1. Your map was fine. I really only started taking issues with the pack in E3 and E4.
Somebody redpill me on Guncaster Vindicated
>A lot of people bitch about Brutal Doom but they've never actually played it. It is in all ways superior.
I played the very first two versions of BD, and I can tell you that the whole thing is absolutely pathetic zoomer-wank.
>play through the first three episodes of doom
>too easy
>get to the fourth one
>"yeah okay I can handle this"
>accepting
lol you are not buying it, you don't even own a Switch, you are being all bitchy about the expenses of other people, stop being a fag.
High noon drifter
>you don't even own a Switch
But I do.
Reeeeeee
This gameplay mod doesnt play like the original from 97 reeeeee freelook reeeee
Kys
Well I actually just bought the classic doom trilogy games on Steam, and i heard something about the base game(s) running on dosbox or something? So I wanted to see if I can mod for a better first experience, but I'm not sure where to start since I heard different names from different sources.
But the guy is playing FPS on the controller, man...
I can play the classic Doom on the controller normally in UV, but I can't imagine playing Doom 2016 which basically makes you surrounded by enemies throughout the entire game. What kills controllers the most is not even having an imprecise aim, but taking forever to be able to turn the other way.
>498008203
prboom-plus.sourceforge.net
Download this and use it to run WADs instead of Doom.exe
Shit, I quoted wrong... See
I got doom 3 vr mod, so I'm playing through that since I've never played it. Played the shit out of the rest of the doom games plus many of wads.
Sweet, thank you, will check this out
I was still able to do Nightmare without much issue on an Xbox controller.
Unless your wad requires it I'd go Crispy any day of the week.
Another good choice would be Crispy Doom, if he wants to just run vanilla wads.
Noted, thank you
Hearts of Demons: Baron
What's that one classic doom mod where all the demons are sexy girls and the glory kills are a short 3rd person fuck sequence
And yet you bitch about other people's decisions.
Brutal Coom

I bitch about shitty ports.
>NOOO, OPTIONS REEEE
get a life, nerd.
>literally running the best it possibly can on Switch hardware without melting the fucking thing
>resulting in a serviceable port where you can feasibly play Doom portably
Just because the hardware is shitty doesn't mean the port itself is, dumbass.
I just bought doom, doom II and doom 3 with doom 2016 on the switch.
God damn are these some good games. I am playing through doom 1 just finished 2016 last night and playing doom 3 now. Just killed the weird rock throwing demon in 3.
Best ~35$ spent.
I already have dooms on pc. But switch is max compfy. Looking forward to eternal, now.
Oh yeah. And doom 64 fuck cant wait to play that!
Playing Smash mostly. I'm loading up DOOM 2 once in a while but some of the levels are kind of ass honestly.
I played Ancient Aliens after Back to Saturn X and it was fitting
I fucking hope they release all them quakes on switch.
Id lose my fucking gord.
If you're going to make concessions, don't make it even more expensive than the better versions.
what's wrong with it? I picked it up yesterday on sale and been having a real good time with it, although spending too long finding secrets.
Why, the only one I could get running, of course!
Shrine
There's nothing wrong with it. Don't let Yea Forums try to convince you you're not having fun.
The game shows its whole hand way too early. It gets repetitive once you finish the first Hell level.
I pirate Switch games so I don't have anything to say to that.
I love MOON
In general? It's solid. As a doom game?
>HUE I'M A BAD ASS WHO DONT NEED NO STORY IMMA GONNA TRASH TERMINALS WHO DELIVER STORY EXPOSITION
>there are still plenty of them and you are forced to listen to the story anyway though
>no maze-like level design, literally 50% of doom's spirit
>edgy shitty dubstep-metal instead of popular and proven metal tracks
>UPGRADES LMAO
haven't you heard the expression "great games are when you get better with time, not your character", this is true for games where the enemies stay the same, like in doom, upgrades only make an easy game easier
>power trip experience vs solemn, athmospheric exploration of environment populated by demons
play the old ones first
I think nu and old Doom are good
>solemn, atmospheric exploration of environment populated by demons
Let me guess, you think Doom 3 is good.
>498014675
>HUE I'M A BAD ASS WHO DONT NEED NO STORY IMMA GONNA TRASH TERMINALS WHO DELIVER STORY EXPOSITION
This is number one a deliberate middle finger to Doom 3, and number 2 probably the most exploitive 5 seconds of the game in terms of Doomguy's character. He is not a thinking man, he is not a guile hero. He is here to kill demons and he is here to kill them because they are evil. Do not ask this game for clever plot - it's fucking DOOM.
>there are still plenty of them and you are forced to listen to the story anyway though
Besides the sequence in Hayden's office - and he basically bribes you into listening to him with ammo and health/armor, which I found hilarious - there is basically zero point in the entire game where you are forced to sit and wait while the game explains itself. All the exposition either occurs over comms, and you are not restricted in any way when this happens, or during elevator sequences, and in those cases you're still physically moving. In total the game basically has TWO plot cutscenes, one in Hayden's office and one at the end. It's league's ahead of anything else in its generation in that regard.
>no maze-like level design, literally 50% of doom's spirit
Aside from the Lazarus labs, which have several annoying point-of-no-return doors, the game is VERY mazelike and the hell levels are so twisty turny they run the border of being confusing. Classic doom's levels had a defined beginning and end, assuming they were complete mazes with no direction at all is nostalgia glasses.
>edgy shitty dubstep-metal instead of popular and proven metal tracks
>popular and proven
ummm what? Doom didn't use anything 'popular and proven' it had an original soundtrack. It's only popular and proven because the game is 27 years old!
/vr/ can rage about nuDOOM at thwir keiaure but at elast have reasons for it that arent 'its new and therefore bad'
>exploitive
Expositive. 'Scuse me.
what's the best Doom 64 port, GEC Master Edition or 64 EX?
>Doom didn't use anything 'popular and proven'
Then why did it copy Slayer, Alice in Chains, etc.?
No. I don't like shambling, melee-only zombies as enemies. Darkness is overused, weapon balance is off and forced story, cut scenes, waiting shit, talking to people, etc. Doom Classic Complete is not above criticism and has it's problems, but maps were created by talented people and served a purpose. I can't think of a single memorable level from the newer games, especially in the continuous style of story telling which Half-Life brought upon this world. Texture repetition is also too frequent. I know they were limited, but this is not a problem on every map. Just making the floor the brain gunk/guts texture shouldnt've been a thing.
Quack's enemies and themes are too fucking eclectic. Knights? Jumping blobs? Iconic game, but again, what the fuck were they doing. I know it will upset people, but Quake 2's aesthetic and enemy design is far more consistent.
>Uh, hello? Based department?
>Yeah, I've got something you're gonna want to see.
>single memorable level from the newer games
I find Vega Core, Foundry, and Kadingir Sanctum to be very memorable, actually.
Not him but
>bro why didn't they just plagiarize more metal songs like they did back in 1993? SOULLESS
Come on, man.
Might even stream it for a few people but not sure
>DOOM Episodes 1-4
>Sigil (Have never played)
>DOOM II
>DOOM II Master Levels (have never played)
>Evilution
>Plutonia
>Doom 2016
If i do any more i probably won't be able to finish it all in time.
what the hell was even memorable about those levels lmao
>finish it all in time
You can skip Evilution, user. It's trash.
Vega Core: the music was my favorite from the game, the one ultra-hard fight after you ride the tram, removing and backing up Vega.
Foundry: the big sprawling maze-like area, it's hard to navigate and you get lost easily, reminds me of a late Doom 1 level I forget the name of. Plus you meet the Hell Knight for the first time here and they're a huge "oh fuck" enemy for the first third or so.
Kadingir Sanctum: First Hell level in the game, no Hayden / VEGA bullshitting, introduction of the Slayer's Testaments, meet your first Baron of Hell as he's buttfucking like 2 dozen Imps. Plus that last fight where they make you fight like 2 Barons and 4 Mancubi all at once, which is new at that stage of the game.
i'll play it until I'm sick of it. There's some good levels in there like Ballistyx and Central processing
>Quack's enemies and themes are too fucking eclectic. Knights? Jumping blobs? Iconic game, but again, what the fuck were they doing
It was gonna be a fantasy RPGish action game that got reworked into a shooter since Carmack disagreed with Romero's direction, either way it feels way more unique compared to Q2
Show me the sound file that does this. Furthermore, nudis doing the same thing - slayer and AiC were big bands in the early 90s. NuDOOM takes strong influence from contemporary industrial metal and glitch music.
You are literally complaining about something because it wasn't made 27 years ago.
most controversial wads? excluding /pol/.wad and brutal doom to an extent
>play doom (2016) on ps4
>enjoy it
>play doom (2016) on PC
>hate it
Why is this?
Controller input. It's a mouse & keyboard game, no question.
Comfort
Probably the porn wad? I forget the name, some user earlier in the thread was asking about it.
started that SUNLUST map megawad like a month ago, been playing a level every 1-3 days
shit's tricky as fuck, bretty gud, but some traps are total BULL-SHIET

they won't say if it's extra levels, remixed levels from the campaing, special/challenge modes or other
Terrywads. Eric Harris's wads.
>>playing Eternal on the Switch
>you people are mad
Works on my machine.
Seriously though. Its a solid port. And etrnal is shaping up to be even better.
No. It looks great and has very solid fps.
It dipped like once, and im sure it was fron my internet dropping
It's easier to be impressed on a console.
Hdoom. At least that's the one I know about.
Come to think of it, are there others?
Seriously im done listening to snoy fags. Switch runs this shit like a champ. Anyone on the fence GET IT.
Seriously doom didn't do well cause of its gfx. Good gfx doesn't mean good game.
And the switch looks amazing in handheld and docked for the record.
I just finished doom 16 on docked for the first time.
I for one insist that the game is best on PC but it's good to know the port is good.
I couldn't care less about skins but I bought for the DLCs, they said on Saturday's Bethesda stream the DLCs will be about going after the ones ruling Hell, so I think it will consist of extra single player missions continuing the story (solving earths invasion problem on the main game and then going after them on the DLCs)
Would use smooth doom if it weren’t for some weird fucking glitch giving me infinite ammo on the BFG. Tried a clean install of GZDoom, a redownload of the mod, and even a new download of the wads. Nothing fixed it and I have no idea what’s causing it.
Not sure what you're trying to prove here other than trying to convince yourself of something. Everyone knows the switch version is objectively the worst version of the game and getting it solely depends on how much you value playing it anywhere (which most people don't). Shooters don't lend themselves to handheld screens in my opinion so I'm always going to play games like this on my PC.
stop making me want to spend extra money, fug
Welp, apparently I'm too late. I'm actually fucking mad now, I didn't even know there was a sale until last night.
Odds of them going on sale again?
Well, I'm going to buy the DLC any way so better to buy the bundle and pay less...
It hasn't been posted yet so I'm dumping all of my "so you want to play [x]" images.
Fuck it, I just used a few Gold Points to buy Doom 1 at a little over $1. I'll just buy Doom 2 and 3 whenever they're on sale again, plus I should have some more Gold Points by then anyhow.
For my scarce few Marathon bros out there.
Are Zdoom and GZdoom interchangeable or am I being a massive pleb using it?
You can think of GZDoom as the beefier and more graphically enhanced version. There's also a lot of maps or mods that need it for engine-specific tricks, and ZDoom isn't being actively supported anymore. GZD is probably the most popular source port and only purists are going to gripe about it.
The link to Quake is broken. Can I play custom wads with only the shareware version of Quake? Or do the map packs need the original Quake to work?
I'm not a purist but I always use PRBoom+ when the map is vanilla, mainly because GZDoom for some reason doesn't save my modifications and all the fucking times I'm going to play I have to disable the jump, crouch, in addition to changing some other things to try to make the wad run as planned by the creator.
>Guncaster
cyngis is no demon or beast .
I also asked this question and I got no responses, one of the temple of the lizardmen has you playing as a lizardman. also another has a squadmen fuck a lizardwoman at the end.
I think this should have an up-to-date link for everything, that image is fairly old now. Most will require the full exe for the full list of resources.

Fucking hell. The deluxe edition is really expensive and there is too much unknown stuff (like if they will try to support mods this time around or still nothing) before release or if slimy Bethesda hands fucked something up big time but god damn does it make me want to splurge on it. Shit.
Im currently playing Alien Vendetta for the first time and god damn is it amazing, it'll definitely go on the list user
Great taste user. I love when a WAD features custom enemies that arent overly relied on or thrown in your face
Thanks user, you bet its me. Im still slowely working on my EP and I havent died innawoods yet but if I do carry on the list for me or summin. Ultraviolence on Doom 2016 is good times too
Thats why I post the list semi-frequently, I dig getting new recommendations and whatnot. Ill start up Strange Aeons right away here, how long would you say it is? Im currently playing through ProDoomer as well as replaying Hellbound and Valiant so a short & sweet TC would be perfect
>doom 1 is the best
>lack of enemy variety
>lack of SSG

Don’t forget Kira’s Bizarre Adventure.
see No one who worked on the original Doom gets a dime from those sales, and the lead dev himself doesn't care
Once you download Quake, download the Quake 1.5 mod. My favorite thing about it is the new shotgun sounds/animations. Even when I first played Quake in the 1990s I found the shotgun sounds to be terrible, especially when you compare them to Doom's or Duke Nukem's shotguns.
youtube.com
Playing Quake 1.5 while listening to Dr. William Luther Pierce is bliss. Quake's soundtrack was made by Nine Inch Nails, and with Dr. Pierce's old broadcasts, it sounds like old reruns from a Fallout radio station that are even more true now than ever.

I was playing doom 3 the other day because it was on sale in the eshop along with 1 and 2 and I was so completely stoned off my head combined with being really fucking tired so the game was actually creeping me the fuck out. I was getting into the game only for it to freeze on me which killed the deep immersion i was in and I can't be fucked to go back and play it again. Not a good first experience with the doom franchise.
Its a TC with 5 episodes and 8 levels each if i remember correctly plus ahidden level in each episode. I really cant say how long it takes to complete each map because i did UV Scepter-Start only No quicksaves, so the whole thing took me around a week. Its one of the best TC i have played ngl. The ambience is great and the custom stuff is awsome
>levels less replayable than doom2
That's where you're wrong, bucko. Grinding Doom Episode 1 on Nightmare is bliss. E2M2 is my favorite level but E1 is my favorite episode

The only megawad I've played that avoids this entirely all the way through the end is Valiant. Probably still my favorite wad honestly.
>Gfx dont matter.
Resolution and framerate always matter.
>Probably better then ps4 and xbone
Those run at 60fps with an HD resolution.
it can run doom don't worry
the typical front loading is why the format is a mistake
wads should really be 16 maps at the most.
ancient aliens is too brutal brehs
wat do
thoughts on hexxen? bought it a while back for like under a dollar wondering if it'll fill the void til Eternal release
You are playing it with some kinda gameplay modifier like final doomer, right?
>yfw
Ive been playing Doom 2.
I just beat the level "Downtown" and now i dont really want to continue playing.
Whats a good mod that has pretty green nature areas instead of like the typical military base hell areas? I really liked Hedon and Golden Souls 1/2.
sums up doom 2 perfectly
Arachnocide is pretty eh. With the enemy pack it's annoying as fuck because of how small the enemies are but without it a lot of the weapons are way too overpowered.
Is there any reason to bother getting the new version of 64 they're releasing? Surely it's not going to be better than 64EX, especially considering how badly botched the last Doom ports were even if the eventually mostly fixed them.
Sale ends tonight senpai
Just panic bought doom 2016 and mohu cause I'm not missing out on saving 60 bucks
It gets better after the city levels
If you want to support the "official" release like some kind of fag it might be. But it's more for consoles, I think
It got patched like crazy 2 months ago you stupid nigger
Runs great now
Push through the last 1/3 of Doom 2 has its best levels. Downtown is probably my least favorite map in the series.
>175 hours on digimon
Is it that good? Damn I just missed the sale on it too
A four-year-old laptop is many, many times more powerful than the computers that Doom originally ran on. I'm also limited to an old laptop so I can only play retro games and I run them just fine.
There is always a Doom thread on /vr/ Read the OP of that thread I linked. There are links to downloads for dozens of old games. Here are all the games I downloaded from there so far I could download more, I just need to finish my current playthroughs before I download more stuff like Turok 2
This image is from the /vr/ Doom thread OP You can also play Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun (pic related). The game was released as freeware like 10 years ago, just do an internet search for "tiberian sun freeware" and you'll find links to downloading it. You can play it in 1920x1080 resolution by editing the sun.ini file in the game folder:
>ScreenWidth=1920
>ScreenHeight=1080
>Tfw you just want to sit back and wait for death but you cant
That's what a hero does user.
>weapons are incredibly unbalanced; no reason to use anything but SSG and Gauss Cannon
Cycling SSG+gauss cannon+rocket launcher is crucial to doing ultra-nightmare successfully and the biggest run killers of ultra-nightmare are the first few levels where you only have the pistol, combat shottie and rifle. It'll make you appreciate the shotgun grenade and rifle in general quite a bit.
>Ruins earth by being a fucking retard
Art book spoiled that It wasn't him that led the demons to Earth but leftovers of the Hell cult that Olivia made in the UAC
It filled the gap the other Switch Pokemon games couldn't.
Are there any good gameplay wads for Hexen?
Maybe something like Project Brutality with fancy bells and whistles and more weapons/spells for everyone?
Also any good level wads that anyone has enjoyed for Doom or Hexen?
Anyone feel that Doom 64EX has wonky mouse controls? Feels like it's choppy, and I have acceleration off and mouth smoothing off as well. Also have framerate set to smooth.
If you like Hexen try the Doom mod Hellbound user
Download the fix from their website, I've also heard messing with Compatibility settings can fix it.
Many thanks user, I think I actually have one one around here somewhere.
>mfw I try on my collector's edition helmet and get the coronavirus
>Into sandy's city or Running from evil
>Refueling base or E1M7
>i like it
HIDEOUS DESTRUCTOR BROS WHERE WE AT?
>At Doom's Gate (any version)
>That big circle one with 10,000 arachnotrons
>I like it, but it needs more S P E E D
What are some horror/space/lovecraftian doom wads?
is vsync off?
Just loaded up DUSK for the first time and tooled around the first level to get a feel for it before I get some sleep. I had way too much fun doing flips and 70+ miles an hour.
Might give Doom64 a look between now and Eternal
im saying that it looks and runs great.
so what if the textures are a little less, fuck off snoy nigger your just mad cause your system sucks and has no games. switch+pc master life
Horror? Soundless mound
Space? Ancient aliens
Lovecraftian? Moonman.pk3
>fps on a controller
>on a switch controller, at that
I fucking hate Yea Forumsintendo. I bet you shitpost about FF7 being shit, too. Admit it. I've got you pegged and you know it. I bet you haven't even built a new PC since 2012 and your favorite PC game is Skyrim. I bet you played ARPGs in the 90s and early 00s and you think Baldur's Gate 3 will be shit because it wont have your archaic and boring pausable/realtime combat. Ain't I right? I bet I got you figured just from one shitty fucking taste in platform choice for a shooter.
Dude, the game has crazy auto-aim and you can’t look up or down. This isn’t even an FPS by modern standards, and if you need m+kB to play it, you’re a fucking simp.
seethe more.
pc + switch master race.
I'm not your bro, fαm.
Go back
nothing you said is remotely true for anyone
stop acting like a pc gamer snoy boi
>Brutal Doom veteran here.
cringe, please kill yourself faggot
oh i lied. ff7 is HOT TRASH.
there you brought it out of me. i love jrpg
but just for you i said my truth. ff7 is fucking dogshit.
Is there anything more blasphemous to Doomguy than H-Doom?
Only if you want to play on go on the Switch for some reason. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense. And unlike the other Dooms, they most likely won't add custom wads, so you'll be stuck on the original Doom 64 maps forever, which is not such a good thing...
No
since all wads are made canon in '16. including the one where you spank the cyberdemon's ass
So is Doom Slayer Doom Guy?
Well i have been playing all but 3 recently listening to the DOOM 2016 soundtrack on loop doing workouts and planning on playing the hell out of Brutal DOOM Slayers Chronicles and maybe download WADS to add to my collection thanks to some of these fine Anons till the 20th
I honestly couldn't play the game because of that. I installed the fix and it still sucked. Even if you turn off the mouse acceleration, you will still notice that the effect persists and is quite accentuated.
I was only able to play when I got the Mod for GZDoom. For me, the EX is simply unplayable, except for those who want the original experience with the controller.
Yes and He is also the DOOM Marine from 64 and DOOM 3
Yes. The current timeline is
>Ultimate Doom
>Doom II
>Doom 64
>Doom '16
>Doom Eternal
With Doom 3 as an independent reboot.
Doom 3 seems to have some place in the Doom 4 universe seeing that there's a Soul Cube on a desk and also several Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3 arcade cabinets piled in a corner
Or those are just unrelated easter eggs.
I'm retarded, how do I play Doom64EX?
Doubt it. The Soul Cube is also on the Slayer's desk in Doom Eternal
I like to think it's a prequel to nuDoom with the Marine in that being unrelated to the Slayer, but there's no way it fits with the Doom 3 Marine and the Slayer being the same person.
I'm sorry but you might be retarded user.
love people so upset at platforming in a shooter like it isn't a plus always
I see you added Sunlust. That's a great one.
Strange Aeons has a High Noon Drifter compat patch and it's a ton of fun with it if you want something other than vanilla. It changes the story cards but I don't know if anyone actually cares about that.
nah clearly Doom 3 is canon in some form or fashion. maybe multiverse fuckery as the old theory went, not saying Doom3guy is actually the Slayer
>devolves
>slaughtershit
Do I hear a shitter? It's straight up uncommon for a wad that was good in the first half to become bad slaughtermaps in the second. You'll often have slaughter style arenas more and more often towards the end, but if the first half is okay you'll almost always get fucking quality big maps near the end.
Did you have anything specific in mind when you made this post? Are people still upset over fucking scythe 1 maybe?
Playing Memento Mori and getting tired of it, not sure I’ll finish it. Just move on to something else but not sure what, maybe finally finish Eviternity.
And slaughtershit rules.
You're complete retard if you think they introduced multiverse fuckery and not have Doom 3 part of it.
1. download binaries
2. download windows 10 patch (on the same page)
3. download doom64 nintendo 64 rom (doesn't come with binaries)
4. run wadgen.exe (comes with the binaries) and select the doom64 rom, it will generate the IWAD's necessary to play Doom 64 ex
5. extract the patch you downloaded earlier into the doom ex folder and overwrite
6. done
>and the lead dev himself doesn't care
has this ever been a fucking concern? no. people are worried about getting strikes on their account from their shitty ISPs who hold monopolies on internet in their area
You're a complete retard if you think every little reference means continuity. Does Skyrim take place in the Doom universe as well because there's a Dovahkiin helmet in 2016?
Except it's not a simple reference, it's prominently featured in 2016 and eternal. The dovahkiin helmet however is a small reference. Also you're an actual literal complete retard if you think a skyrim reference has the same amount of importance as something referenced in its own series.
>With Doom 3 as an independent reboot.
Set in the same multiverse.
Impeccable taste
Thanks fren love you
>prominently
Awesome list
>Eviternity and Sunlust
based
you did turn off vsync right user
quality information contained within, many thanks for this precious gem
I'm the original user to bring it up and yeah I do have it off and it still feels wrong. It's as if it's not hardware controlled or something, there's an unresponsiveness that makes it a chore to play.
You're welcome doombro.
dunno dude it "works on my machine :)", better play retribution instead - the new bethesda port this month is based on Ex
I'm a very new doombro desu.
My save on oblivion got fucked and I got annoyed, so I need something new to sink time into. Doom seems perfect since there appears to be a near infinite amount of fan content out there.
Glad to see Project Brutality getting some attention. A nigh perfect expansion pack for Brutal Doom, the latest versions barred from moddb by Sergeant Mark because he threatened to report it.
Every Doom game is good. If there is any game in the series I would say is almost required it's at least Doom 1 because because it's one of the most perfect games ever created. The levels and the progression is pretty much flawless.
>blocks ur path
Should I play that alone first before trying out all these wads? I want a good experience
>these fuckheads on ultra-violecne let alone nightmare
I woulds say so yes, the Doom 1 episodes introduce you to doom and what to expect from level the level design flawlessly, it's the perfect starting point. I think you'd have a much greater appreciation for fan content as well if you've already experienced the main game first.
No Alien Vendetta?
Alright sweet man, will do that instead first
Yes. Just get GZDoom since it's right out of the box ready to go. After a while you can look into more accurate sourceports like PRBoom+, Chocolate Doom, Crispy Doom, etc.
Where can I get crispy doom? After looking up on it, seems neat.
Also wow doomfags are really helpful and nice
if only I could block his path, I hate when these shitheads are placed in such a way that haphazardly placed lost souls cannot be prevented
Mordhau is that game that you play after doom, its smashing heads with decent music, Ive already beat doom 2016 and dont have the money to buy any of the other ones (Yes i know that they are as cheap as dirt but i dont want to spend that money) Ive been waiting since August to play Eternal.... waiting is fr aids
JUST GO DONE PLAYING DOOM 3 ON SWITCH!
PLAYED THE OG
THEN THE 2 EXPANSIONS ALL ON VETERANS MODE
Was a great ass experience as i never played doom 3 only the originals.
Cant wait to play doom 64 with eternal when it drops
Thanks again!
Just pirate them like everybody else dude.
what source port should I install for linux
What said.
Doom IWAD's are ridiculously easy to find and download and not giving money to bethesda is nothing but a good thing.
And to keep that gravy train rolling, I strongly recommend the 2017 3.0 build. It's pretty much feature complete, but the team is working on a new build slated for a this Spring release.
static.allfearthesentinel.net
Can you point me to where builds are being posted since it's not on Moddb anymore?
The devs site that is*
Er ok actually I'm retarded, how do I install this? There's no exe or anything similar
Sorry.
latest.chocolate-doom.org
One you want is Doom binaries.
It's a side story of how a universe fended off a hell incursion while Doomguy/Doomslayer was trapped in the sarcophagus
github.com
It's very much so incomplete, which is why I linked the 2017 version. Still fun for what it is.
Thanks m80.
Even if it's not complete isn't it still more than what the 2017 version has?
latest.chocolate-doom.org
note crispy doom is the one on the bottom of the page
Has there been a new version of Russian Overkill?
I do seem to recall there being an update a few weeks/months ago. Check the zdoom forums thread.
They're very, very different, with the new one having a few missing features like missing melee strikes. In a nutshell: That github version moves like Doom 2016, the 2017 version moves like classic Doom. It takes some getting used to. Give 'em both a shot, who am I to limit.
I just finished the first one on Switch, what a great game, i will beat two next week and hopefully play a bit of 3,
Got it, thank you so much fren
Any good recent slaughterwads?
I tried the new one and the movement feels kind of horrible to be honest, the way you stop on a dime is very not-doom.
I’m the guy you replied to popping in a day late, but I actually like FF7, I have it on Switch as well. I’ve literally never “built a pc” and don’t have a favorite pc game because I don’t play games on pc. If you’re not mad enough I’m posting this from my iPhone as well.
How good and how recent? Sunder had a few new maps added in December.
I beat Death Stranding yesterday and have been playing Wolfenstein Youngbloods since I got it for free. It sucks compared to the previous two Wolfenstein games, but it's better than I expected. Also will likely be buying Nioh 2 next week.
Indeed. Go to the Zmove options menu and adjust to your heart's content. I cranked up a few settings and it still feels off, but the gun animations have grown on me. Just waiting for the update.
anything in the last couple of years honestly. And I guess good is pretty subjective. But I;ll check out Sunder.
FF7 IS shit though. It wasn't a good game then and it isn't even a passable game now. I rebuilt/upgraded my old PC that I've had since 2004 when I dumpster dove a Comp USA when it closed down. This upgrade took place in 2017. My favorite game is actually Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem. PC wise my favorite game is Dorf Fortress. I did not, weebgames are almost always boring too deep 5 you and Baldur's Gate 3 will be shit because most modern companies can't make good games anymore. ID got lucky with DooM 2016 in that they didn't fuck up. I'm hopeful for eternal but still have some doubt in my mind that they'll fuck it up somehow. Baldur's Gate is more than likely going to be terrible. Also the switch controller is shit, it's only "fixed' by having to waste extra money to make it a real controller that you slide those retarded end pieces into. While I'm at it BoTW was a shitty tech demo that is objectively terrible. It's 90% empty, no content in between, and comes across as lazily thrown together in a year. They just took the E3 demo that everyone played and took away the time limit/ Invisible walls and called it done.
Point is, fuck you and your shitty smurfs.
Is there a way to make Doom 2016 not feel and look like garbage on Switch? I’ve tried fucking with the settings but it still feels so stiff and all the textures look half rendered
Stop what you're doing and play Amid Evil
youtube.com
>Is there a way to make a 2016 AAA shooter not feel and look like garbage on the Switch
Waiting for pirates to upload the November update.
Not really m8. Only reason to buy that version is if you really want to play it on the go or you have literally no other option, because it just doesn't stack up to any other version in any other way.
Thanks I'll give it a shot.
Excellent game. As are Ion Fury, Dusk, and Project Warlock. We need more boomer shooters!
You forgot Wrath: Aeon of Ruin
Haven't played it, waiting for it to be finished/cheaper.
Prodeus, also that slav Quake game.
Is downtown thew worst Doom level? Feel like I've hit a grinding halt.
