How important is it to you to play a game blind?

To me its enough to make or break the whole experience. Every game that ever made me feel like a kid was played without spoilers. Whether it's story details, or just footage of a level, when you know what to expect there is no more wonder to be had. The game becomes just going through the motions, like in real life.

Depends on the game. Playing a rougelike with a few spoilers is fine because at some point it stops being about encountering new stuff and more about messing with what you already know in a fun way. Meanwhile if I played Lisa knowing the entire story, it'd lose all its impact.

Fair enough, but I can't say I feel the same way.
Experiencing everything fresh is necesary for me to really enjoy a game.

I'm exactly the same, but I always have to resist the urge to look things up. I get 20 hours into a fantastic 40 hour game, playing it all day, and when I'm not playing it I just want to get back to the world. I end up finding threads here or talking to others online just so I can enjoy the hype with others, and it's easy to get little things spoiled.

How blind are we talking? No trailers? No spoiler free reviews?

Oh yeah I've definitely done that before.

Another way I get spoiled is through Youtube. Before Mario Odyssey came out Devs already had copies of the game, I got a recommendation for a video called "Mario Oddyssey Final Boss", with a picture of the boss right in the fucking thumbnail.
Same thing happened with a Kirby game a few years earlier.

Even if a spoiler isn't suprising, just knowing with 100% certainty what is coming is enough to break the suspension of disbelief for me.

The only media I seem to enjoy is stuff I find out about well after the hype is dead, so I can just get right into it without waiting for release, or being bombarded by ads, and discussions about it.

Yeah, I try to avoid all media related to the game until I play it. Sometimes Youtube fucks with me and I see some spoilerish thumbnail or title, that shit is the worst.

Games are a visual medium. Playing without the visuals is beyond retarded. This is the most insane thing I've read all day. Not everyone is some autistic freak that plays Dark Souls with a blindfold with a controller made out of bananas.

Only if it's a DQ or Zelda.

mediocre bait, needs some work
