im playing SMT strange journey on the hard mode, sure makes me suffer so far. im only in the bootes district, i know its going to get much more painful going forward

The new XCOMS in general

Jesus Christ, you think Bootes is bad? Wait til you get to Carina. Nah fuck Carina, wait til you get to Delphinus. Actually FUCK Delpinus, wait til you get to Eridanus.

im at mithras, getting my asshole opened up. im level 21, and slowly acquiring demons with wind attacks to help me

>Not posting return of werdna
PC gaming was some kind of shit back in those days.

mass appeal kinda kills incentive for devs to do that shit. now only niche titles advertised for punishing difficulty will do it

I tried wiz5 a little, but then decided that I don't have the form of masochism needed for that game
it has nice enemy sprites though, considering the technical limitations (CGA)

Attached: lalamoomoo.png (640x401, 6K)

Too true. Bloated dev costs necessitate the need for mass appeal.

It's a phone game so roll your eyes if you want but BurriedBornes has been kicking my ass. I feel like I'm doing ok then some motherfucker comes in with 10k barriers and reflects reflect damage and on and on and we're only level 20. Fun game though. I'm glad good roguelikes aren't completely dead yet.

Even among most low budget niche Indies I haven't seen anything that looks as punishing as the OP pic

The only similar rpg off the top of my head is darkest dungeon but it doesn't even scratch the surface of OP's shit

I haven't played 4 but how were expected to get through this(you can't see the mines)?

Attached: map4-08.gif (600x600, 36K)

Looks really pleasant

I imagine you were supposed to draw a map and on every square you got blown up on you put an X or some other until you had a clearly defined path to the stairs

Through autism

Fair. But a game at the difficulty level of Wizardry I-VI could probably grab a market for twitch drones to watch some sperg punish themselves for a couple weeks at a time. Of course the interest in it would fall pretty quick I'd imagine, especially after watching the streamer level another group through Murphy's Ghost type of grinding.
I tried it once and just gave up because I don't have that level of 'tism anymore. It's literally Trial and Error: The Game until it becomes, Time Trial with RNG: The Game. The level with the random portals that dropped you anywhere in a different direction was some shit too if I remember correctly.

i've been wanting to play the SMT series now that i beat all the EO games. are these fine to play in release order? is the strange journey redux worth it over the original?

Trial and error because fuck you that's why
Don't forget you're being hunted by Trebor's ghost the entire time

Also this level was worse

Attached: Realm of the Whirling Dervish.png (560x560, 28K)

you can pirate both fairly easily

Here's the obligatory Wizardry 4 screenshot

Attached: Throb of the Demon's Heart is actually an unrelated spin-off and not a version of Wizardry (1200x1200, 1.07M)

this is my first one in the series so honestly im not sure, but i think they all have standalone stories so you can just grab one and go with it. SJ so far plays like EO without the map drawing and with monster training similar to pokemon.

First time I fought that faggot he just kept instakilling my guys. Protip: when you think you're getting close, switch out your demons so your pc gets all the exp.
Some of the bosses aren't even that hard, the suffering is getting to the bosses. Like in Carina you play hide and seek with the boss and it introduces the annoying dark corridors, Delphinus is a lot of trial and error and playing hide and seek: you thought last time was annoying? edition and Eridanus has a metric fuck ton of teleporters and poison/sleep tiles.

go to bed

You forgot to mention that the grandmaster ending requires intimate knowledge of Jewish esoteric mysticism to get through

Yes that was the fucking level I was thinking of. Jesus tap dancing Christ RoW was a bad acid trip in video game form.
That was a great thread. The fear that followed from other anons was worth it.

NO!

>SMT is hard
Damn you zoomers haven't experienced shit.

Those are the kind of spinner tiles that don't actually give any visual indication you just got spun, aren't they?

Attached: 1551312882073.png (365x473, 187K)

Yes. Yes they are.

This reminds me of Level 3 of Proving Grounds. I was mapping out the levels of the game by hand and I had no idea about the rotating floors. I got so fucking confused when my map didn't match what I was seeing. I eventually figured out what was going on and fixed my map which was pretty satisfying. This seems so much worse since there are far less landmarks.

Yep, also the level is designed so that it looks the same in every direction at those intersections.

The level also loops in every direction so you'll get lost even harder.

BuriedBornes is really easy to cheese, you just need to get decent class combos going
It's also not even a roguelike, it's roguelite since you unlock stuff permanently. Basic bitches like you made me get Dead Cells by saying it was a roguelike metroidvania when it was the complete opposite.

Tatsujin Ou / Truxton II
Game is a hard as balls memorizer that’s nearly an hour and a half long. Even at full power some bosses and enemies are nearly unkillable without bombing. But your bombs are too limited for that, so you have to time them out. Lots of checkpoints where recovery is hard to impossible. The later levels are so cheap that even after memorizing everything you can still die because of all of the random hazards and patterns.
But at least it has amazing art and music. Too bad it’s impossible for mortals.

Kinda makes me eager to at least try first part.
Piracy where?

>Eridanus
Oh god oh fuck

If you just wanna try it then here you go:

If you have lots of time to spare reading and something awful does not offend you, this takes an indepth look at the whole game.

>Playing The Dark Spire on the DS some time ago.
>Dropped it after several party wipes, but only after I couldn't find that damn graffiti on the entrance floor.
>Read this.
I guess I know what I'm picking back. I'm sorry I gave up so early.

Eridanus was fucking easy mode compared to the hell of whatever Area G was called. FUCK Dark Areas.

Also anyone here ever play The Dark Spire? Its pretty good.

the artist picked a good style

>start game
>tap left and right a couple times
>haven't summoned my minions yet
>die to a fighter in one hit
yup just about how I remembered it.

Bumping for interest

For me, it's Hell Temple from La MuLana.
Totally worth it.

Realm of the Whirling Dervish broke me. I tried playing the game without a walkthrough and managed to get to that level.

>fags complain about spikes everywhere in indie platformers when wizardry bullshit exists

At least the reward is great.

Attached: mulbruk.gif (118x129, 22K)

im always curious about wizardry and then i bitch out and play dragon quest or an EO game instead

Burriedbornes is great. My highest character was something like 171. Literally the only mobile game I've enjoyed.

Japan makes the best games

Holy shit I got out of the first room blind.
I've played Proving Grounds though so I had a sneaking suspicion about the solution.

If you have autism then there are CYOAs

You can pretend that you are a Pillar Man with it, so it's good.

Attached: maxresdefault[1].jpg (1280x720, 50K)

SJ is baby shit.
The only way you could possibly think it's difficult is if it's your very first dungeon crawler and you have no experience with RPGs aside from Final Fantasy.
The maps are small and straightforward with basically no puzzles or thought required, normal random encounters trivial since even on Hard/ Expert you can always just run/ talk to avoid them, and bosses extremely unthreatening since theres always one of the extremely plentiful save terminals before them regardless

Any good drpgs on phones I don't have to emulate ?
I already played buriedbones

There's very few games on the franchise that are connected and the ones that are are pretty obvious, Digital Devil Saga 1/2, the two Persona 2 games, SMT 4 and 4 Apocalypse, etc.
You can start just about anywhere, look at a handful of synopsis and play something that sounds interesting to you.

Pic related
I and I imagine many other SMT fans don't play it for le difficulty meme, we play the series for its interesting world, settings, lore, music, battle system etc
You could probably emulate EO

Attached: LR.jpg (220x313, 28K)

>interesting world, settings, lore, battle system

Come on man, a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk Hindu mythology where the concepts of Samsara and Nirvana are portrayed as physical? That's awesome

Even the guy in this 2009-old post says it's not his. How old was the post even?

Attached: wizardry_IV.png (1920x1080, 172K)

some of the games have interesting settings
none of them are cyberpunk
also your inability to read when that user was asking for games they don't need to emulate colors your opinions

X-COM: Terror from the Deep

>I have never played SMT: The post
Also I missed the bit he said he didn't have to emulate, but the fact emulation is so easy and he doesn't want to says way more

the overarching amala network shit isn't cyberpunk, because to literally everyone else the demons are physical beings
MT isn't part of SMT
but please expose yourself some more

>Lucifers Call is the only game in the series
Stop embarrassing yourself user

What's the best Wizardry game to start with for someone who wants to get into the series?

Shut the fuck up retard

In all fairness, that's a floor 10 encounter, and a really bad one to boot. The surprise attack basically cements a game over, but God damn that is some terrible luck.
Wizardry really isn't that bad if you're careful.

Why are SMT fans like this? Instead of being breastfed, did your adopted mother put you on soimilk?
First you have to feel like you belong in threads about hard games, then you feel the need to categorize your entire series as cyberpunk? Always acting like victims when it comes to Atlus and Persona too.

SNES port of Wizardries 1-3

>This isn't cyberpunk
Tell me what is then user

Attached: notcyber.jpg (1212x2368, 227K)

>pretending persona isnt a parasite that sucked everything from the host and left it behind to die alone

Keep sperging retard. I'll let you know when I stop laughing.

Not him, but that's just plain, boring sci-fi. Maybe apocalyptic themes. Definitely nothing to do with cyber or punk though.

478782930
Holy shit you aren't even getting a (You)
You still haven't told me what you think an example of cyberpunk is

>lparchive.org/Wizardry-IV/
Thanks, was immediately going to look for that after reading the screencap.

>Being such a huge pussy that you're afraid of what your opponent will do if they realize you responded to them.
Okay.
By the way, this guy is more cyberpunk than that guy.

Attached: cyberpunk2020[1].jpg (830x535, 341K)

Oh you were baiting this entire time, thanks for confirming

I haven't played these 2 myself but alot of people recommend 6 or 8. If you feel brave and are willing to pull out a pen and some gridpaper you can start from 1 though every U.S. release has some obnoxious bug/feature in it. These games aren't very accessible and are extremely challenging and punishing, they're alot of fun though once you get into them.

I mean, if you don't have a counter-argument, then remain BTFO'd. Like I said, I'm not even the original user you were arguing with. But SMT is definitely not cyberpunk. It doesn't even have the punk aspect down, let alone anything to do with the cyber aspect.

>SMT isn't cyberpunk
This is the discussion you get on Yea Forums nowadays

>Gets BTFO'd
>Tries to plead with the audience instead of addressing points
Pathetic.

>>Being such a huge pussy that you're afraid of what your opponent will do if they realize you responded to them.
Do you think you're making me mad or something?

No more (You)s for you retard

Okay.

just downloaded it, never heard of it before. pretty fun.
