Final Fantasy Thread

Never played a FF game before and the amount of games in the series is pretty intimating.

>What should I play first
>What should I skip

6 or 7 are both good. Haven't played any others

Play:
>The PSP versions of 1/2 if you can
>V
>VI
>VII
>IX

Play if you feel the game really appeals to you:
>X
>VIII
>XV
>The MMOs

Skip all the others

IV, VII

Play the PSP anniversary edition of Final Fantasy 1.

wtf is that box art?
FF1 is the best though, start with that. A world of adventure and soul.

Play all the numbed mainline ones, starting with the first. You can skip the sequels to mainline ones since those were pretty much cash grabs. You can skip XI and XIV since those are MMOs and require a lot longer time investment than the rest which are single player.

Play 9 first
Skip 2, 6, 8, 12 and 13

Start with 7. Not because it's the best, but because it's a good benchmark for if you'll like the series - The stories aren't interconnected, but the weirdness of the stories is a mainstay.

After that, do 1 & 2's PSP versions. Follow that up with 4 & 6. 3 and 5 are interesting, but kind of eh story-wise. Following that, do 8 & 9. 9 is weirdly classic, but in a good way. 10 is good, 12 is great if you abuse gambits and just enjoy the story, 13 and 15 are pretty serviceable. 13 has an okay story with very linear gameplay - But that's all the games, honestly. 15 has a good story, but very repetitive and easy gameplay.

The only games that matter are FFIV to FFIX
VIII is optional but has a pain in the ass system
X is optional but it has a much easier system to work with
XI and XIV are MMOs
XIII and XV are shit
Also take a look at the DS remakes of I-III or any PSP versions
