I like Terranigma better.

On my list of games to play as soon as I get around to beating SoulBlazer - which I just played for the first time this year.

If Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma are anywhere near as awesome as SoulBlazer is, I can't wait.

great shit

It was awesome back when it came out I miss games like this.

soulblazer is easily the most primitive of the "trilogy" so you're in for a good time

What do you like about it?

Nice!

By most primitive, he means it has the least amount of story time so it focuses on more monster killing, gate destroying gameplay. Not that the story focus in Gaia and Terranigma get in the way or anything.

It was pretty good. I disliked that there was little room for error in collecting the gems, but the rest of the game wasn't bad.

Great game great ost

One of my all time favorites.

Probably the worst in the series, but still a good game

i thought it was a bit boring, even back then
i don't think i ever finished it, either as a kid or the handful of times i picked it up later
still, the fact i picked it up so much is testament to something it does right, at least.
i just feel that, compared to its contemporaries (of varying genres), it's always a step down from them.
secret of mana is funner, final fantasy has more variety, link to the past is just better designed, etc.
so these days if i feel like playing something LIKE this, i'll play something better than this.
not completely writing it off, in fact, i'm not giving it the praise it deserves. it's just not AMAZING, and there's a reason why the aforementioned games appear on top-10 lists everywhere and this one does rarely - and it's not shitty lists

Soul Blazer has a Randomizer nowadays, too. Looks like some real fun if you’ve played through it before.

Same with Illusion of Gaia, come to think of it.

blue hair fairy girl was my firs waifu

It was great, too bad they don't make game in the same style narratively speaking nowadays

The ost is good, I just wish there were more tracks.

It has beautiful sprite work and a great OST. The only real challenge is the 50 Red Gems boss but still a good game.

Pretty fucked up story for a kid. Everything is doom and gloom. Good game but would not recommend for a kid to play.

>never even checked out what soulblazer and terranigma were
Fuck you assholes now I gotta play all 3 this weekend

It took me like 13 years to beat because i was too much of a brainlet to use the move that let me get past the great wall of China.

Soul Blazer is basically where Dark Cloud on PS2 got half of its ideas from, the other half being from Actraiser.

>This got overshadowed by Zelda
>There will never be another Soulblazer game
It's a fucking masterpiece.Too bad Enix is far too creatively bankrupt to ever bring it back. It should not be an obscure title AT ALL. It shits all over 99% of action adventure games, including most Zeldas.

The game was no doubt brought down by its translation. Outright nonsense at times.

Just give me a re-release of the trilogy

>BAWWW FF6 Ending
>BAWWW Chrono Trigger Ending
Bitches don't know jack shit til they play the game and see this shit. More moving than anything in the 16/32-bit era. The AAA garbo stories don't hold a candle.

I don't like how linear it is, you're basically on rails the whole way through.

That's because games used to have stuff called "engaging content with the narrative" and "substance" instead of giving you a sandbox to sit in.

Mechanically Illusion of Gaia is a pretty simple game compared to most top down action RPGs though, while not letting you play around and find stuff on your own like you usually do in this kind of game.

The towns are free roam and have lots of interesting mechanics relative to other RPG towns. You can also travel freely back and forth between them. Only certain dungeons cannot be re-accessed for story purposes.
No idea what you're talking about.

All quintet games are masterpieces
Except that one about robots

I like it.
