It has Persona style social links that span over 4 games and like in-game 5 years, potentially ending in a marriage proposal depending on which character you chose.

They're shit. Play trails in the sky and the crossbell arc.

You do get to romance the girls, though some are pushed harder than others, like Alisa being the only one you get to kiss in part two, all the others just get a hug. But by the end your MC can make out with most girls.

And yes, they are fun. They're just about the best you can do with purely turn-based combat and the super robot battles spice things up nicely.

I agree with the first statement but not the latter. So much of a character's actual backstory and development is hidden completely behind their social links. Millium and Machias are a prime example.

Sky trilogy is a throwback to the golden age of comfy shounen adventures of 80-90s.
Crossbell games have Simon and Kamina's voice actors at major roles.
CS unfortunately follows the trashy light novel self insert trends.

Ao and 3rd are my favourite Trails games, but Laura will always be my favourite girl from the series.

I'm not the one saying that Cold Steel Social Links are bad. I think being able to expand across 4 games as people grow and change as characters due to significant changes happening in their life, gives them an edge that Persona can't feasibly compete with.

That second statement is just saying that Cold Steel has an additional edge because characters continue to be actual characters with relevance, goals and personal relationships/friendships with other characters outside of their personal stories, for the most part, unlike in Persona (again, 5 at least. Its been too long since I played 3 and 4 and can't remember if/what they did better).

Alisa is a very close second from this series, but she cannot hold a candle to literally every Tales main girl.
