Kojima's bad video game writing was well known to almost anybody who was paying attention to the internet at the time, so its presence here is understandable. However, in my view, a much more common problem is that Kojima's writing is pretty poor. If not for the fact that Kojima's writing is so badly constructed that almost everyone is able to tell what it's about, it would really have no worth. And although he does an amazing job at creating characters, they're not given the depth that would be necessary to make them compelling or memorable within the story. As Kojima says in the intro to Metal Gear Solid V , the player is given a "very brief look at who the character is before his or her story starts," yet most of these moments are devoid of anything that would give them depth or make them more than a simple character model. They're like the video game equivalent of opening credits - you have a brief introduction, but it's still there, and you don't get much in the way of character development, since Kojima does an excellent job with the story

I feel like the only explanation for the plot in mgsv was that it was originally structured completely differently and had to get chopped up and rearranged a lot prior to development, during which a lot of stuff was done on the fly with no coherent direction.
That would explain the bit in the leaked script where Huey and Quiet knew that Venom was a fake BiBo (probably a bit they experimented with during development and promptly dropped, it makes sense in the context of Quiet's recruitment scene because that scene was probably written with that in mind but later events completely drop the idea), it would also explain scenes being completely out of sequence and out of character (I bet Quiet getting tortured by Kaz was originally supposed to happen earlier, before she was Venom's waifu but then they had to shift it around along with the code talker and vocal chord parasite nonsense).
