I think it's kinda inevitable. Nintendo shilled the fuck out of RE during E3. They've been doing it pretty recently as well, if I recall correctly. Just makes sense to me.

I remember they went out of their way to do that long and pointless video about playing Resident Evil on your Switch in an actual haunted house. It was so weird considering how bad the Switch ports of the RE games are, and how they're all really old games and the actual new RE games aren't on Switch. So if Nintendo is willing to stick their neck out that much then yeah, I think RE in Smash makes a lot of sense.
