If you're talking about the game, it never was alive. They wrote tons of dev diaries in Dofus Mag while the game was stuck in dev hell and the thing that came back time and again was that the game just was never, ever enjoyable to play.

The only reason people ever paid attention to that game was thanks to the cartoon, bit it had none of what made the cartoon interesting.

Wakfu was never alive. If it wasn't for the show, Zone's animation and the extremely hot girls, nobody would have cared.

I tried the game once with a few different classes and while I like the ideas and the art/designs (very cute and nice to look at) it was a ghost town and got boring

The game died because only like 15% of it wasn't behind a paywall. It was an MMO less in depth and less in content than Runescape, but you were still expected to pay in order to do anything worthwhile or leave the beginner's area. Compared with Dofus which had been running longer and was basically the same game but more developed and comprehensive.

The show died for a number of reasons, on the studio side they badly mismanaged it and banked funds on success before the content was actually released. On the consumer side, ratings and audience interest waned when for one they broke up the Wakfu show plotline to make Dofus stuff in between (which itself was decent anyway), but also the show plot itself just turned to crap, basically a wankfest of one of the creator's favorite pet character/race (Dally/Iops).

Leveling up stats in wakfu was much more tedious compared with dofus and everyclass has like 9 spells in wakfu but in dofus like 20+
