i like 1 and 2 because they play like real SMT even a little bit. 3 is ok, 4 is lame, and 5 is watered down as hell for mass appeal

Good list, very similar to my own.

Nigga P1 *is* and was created to *be* a watered down SMT. That's why the dungeons and the combat are piss easy through 80% of the game.

P2IS > Power gap > P3 PSP > P3 FES > P4G > P1 PSP > P4 > P5 > P2EP > P1

so imagine how bad it becomes when you water down the game that was already supposed to be easier. thats p4 and 5

The PSP version is garbage, play the PS1 version instead

i never laughed harder than when the ps classic put revelations instead of p2

>trying to read the manga for 1 but the site I was reading on went into maintence
Anyone have suggestions for sites?

P4/5 did not watered down in anything you mong. Aside from the grid-based combat (which, by the way, is a slow and exploitable mess) P5 has the exact same mechanics as P1, plus some more.
The only thing that you could say is "dumbed down" is the difficulty, but that is once again pure bullshit. P1's Persona balance is trash with Personas in the Level 20~30 range learning Mediarama and Megidola, while it'll take half of the game's entire runtime until P1 starts introducing the most basic and barebones puzzles in dungeons. Literally the only thing "difficult" in P1 is Avidya, and that's because of the huge difficulty spike and because there's only one save point in the entire dungeon.

So should I play 2 next if all I played was fes

I want her, Yea Forumsros...

the combat is ass

That bitch don't wanna be friends

Fucking this

Not him but I wish they never added the whole "wild card" shit to Persona, I really want the whole cast to have a set of Personas they're allowed to use. It feels like the Wild Card of the Party has too much weight and usefulness compared to everyone else. That's one thing that I always think was better about P1 and P2 and something you could argue was actually part of dumbing down the game.

Restricting the Wild Card to the protag "dumbs down" the game in the sense you have less micromanaging to do, true, but it also allows the game to have reserve characters (which would be pointless in 1/2 since getting Best affinities wouldn't be worth the hassle of leveling up additional party members) and it makes the game harder, because the Protag is always invariably the strongest member of your party BECAUSE he can swap out his strengths and weaknesses.

I wouldn't mind seeing a middle ground to this in the future (more customizable Personas for the rest of the party instead of just following a linear level path, or giving them a very small pool of extra Personas to use) but I would in no way say it's a detriment to the game.

In P1 and P2, it's probably true that the system wasn't fully balanced properly. JRPGs around that really just had a total lack of balance when it comes to the ways you can play through the game, at least most of the ones I played. So I fully expect the later Persona games to have more proper balancing than the older titles. That said, it's true that in P1 and P2 they attempted to balance the system, party members could only be good with or use Personas that had Tarrot archtypes that corresponded with their own, so in a way every character was supposed to have his or her own strength and weakness based on what Personas were made available to them. Of course in reality, certain characters like Reiji Kido are kinda just better than a lot of other characters in most aspects from what I remember.

Overall I also just kinda don't like Wild Cards for a narrative reason, reeks of shit that someone just made up and doesn't make that much sense imo.

Good JRPGS > 3 > 1 > 4 > 5 > IS > EP
