I really liked RE4 but I’m surprised at how loved it is. It was a great game but it never compelled me to play more than a couple of playthroughs meanwhile many people consistently rank it among the best games ever

It really is just a case of being in the right place at the right time. It was a pioneer for TPS, the pacing was excellent, the music and sound design, the atmosphere, the campiness and characters, the setpieces and bosses, all shining examples of each in the genre. The scenario floats between survival horror and secret agent hostage rescue which sets it apart from every game in the series thus far and most survival horror games right off the bat.

When did you play it user? Coming from a HUGE re faggot here, but re4 isn't nearly as good now as it was at the time. Its still great mind you, but since it pretty much set the ground work for like literally every 3rd person shooter that came after and that formula has been expanded on, it isn't nearly as impressive of a game if you played it for the first time recently as opposed to when it came out.

Deadspace was better.

the best way to enjoy re4 is take it out of the disc tray and replace it with remake instead.

how are you supposed to survive the first village you come across? there's way too many of them and they're too fast :(

...

cause you have infinitely shit taste

It just is. Those who haven't played it won't know.

The game had a different design philosophy from what we have now. It's not about the plot, it's not about the ever so important elevation to art. It's about making a good game.

>case sorting all your shit
That is a game on its own.

>Coming from a HUGE re faggot here, but re4 isn't nearly as good now as it was at the time.
Just fuck off. The game is exactly the same thing as it was 15 years ago.
NO game has expanded upon it, only downgraded its formula. It's like a progression from DooM to shit like MoH; you can still see some leftover bits of the original game, but everything else is completely apples to oranges.

Thanks for reminding me to filter any retard that posts an image with a filename that starts with "becca_face". They never have anything worth saying.

Whenever it came out and shortly after that

Maybe I was too young to fully appreciate it, I must have been 11-12 at the time.

For what it’s worth, I’ve played RE2 Classic a million times but only did RE4 a few times

is it worth getting the lazy Switch port with no gyro controls?

>Replayable as hell main story
>Decent variety of upgradable weapons (can't optimally use all of them in one playthrough)
>Entertaining cutscenes/dialogue
>Shitload of Extra Content (Assignment Ada, Seperate Ways, etc)
>Mercenaries mode could be its own game
>Really fun bonus unlockable weapons
It's just too good

Not him, but I legit played it for the first time in 2017, and it easily BTFO all the other 3rd person shooters I know of.

because its fun

Your options are:
1. Run and stall for a few minutes
2. Collect ammo and nades and hole up somewhere, I recommend the roof on the house with the shotgun where you find a spinel.
3. Git gud and go balls out shooting.

You don't need to kill everyone, get into the house with the shotgun and defend yourself from there, it's got several points of exit and you can topple over the ladders if they try to enter through the windows

DOG CONTROLS YOUR FUTURE

I always thought that I was a mediocre as fuck gamer, but seeing (potentially) adult players suck with vidya I grew up with makes me question if I'm actually some genius in disguise.

I replayed this masterpiece 30 times on two different consoles.

Red pill me on RE7 is it worth 20 maple bucks (base game)

No. It's awful.
Just watch it on YT.

Not him but I played it for the first time a while back and now it’s one of my favorite games.

playing for the billionth time, this time on my hacked switch
wish it had the wii controls but it's still great
also it's nice to finally have cheats so I can keep leon's jacket for the whole game

I got it for 25€ during launch. Biggest buyer's remorse in a while.

Que carajo estas haciendo aqui? Largate, cabron!

Barricade the two story house and get a shotgun on the wall inside. Collect everything you see. Try to be efficient elat killing ganados using headshots and knife attacks while they are staggered, as well as contextual melee attacks. Use your first shotgun ammo only on Dr Salvador (chainsaw guy) or the big crowds of ganados in close proximity. Also, try to lure lots of enemies inside a house and use grenade if you have any. Alternatively, you can run throughout this section until it ends (Benny Hill Show music is optional). There are other places, where you can hide or at least stall for a while, like a tower or a small house on the right.

>base game
Absolutely not. I paid 20 freedom papers for the Gold edition on PS4, which runs at 60fps and has all DLC on the disc.

Literally pirate it if you must play it.

Careful we have a professional here.

Is the Gold Edition contains all the DLCs and patches on disc? Or is it just a base game with a download code for season pass in one case?

Dude, I'm replaying RE4 almost every year and it still is fun. That is maybe the only game the constant rereleases of which don't make me mad at the industry.

It's all on the disc. I put it in and booted DLC shit with no download.

Thanks! Finally someone made this clear. I've been thinking about getting the game for a while but not knowing which kind of GOTY it is made me doubt some of the offers on Play Asia and other stores. Getting the game from other regions with included download codes sucks.

Me too senpai

It's just a really well-designed game. I think the weapon variety helps to add a lot of replayability: nearly every weapon in the game is worth using and offers some distinct perk over others in its class.

Have fun, leaf-kun.

Honestly, I just realized that first battle is a little unique but follows pretty much the format of a mercenaries round. In general, you run around and keep shooting, you can kite them pretty easily, shotty the chainsaw dude. Although holing up usually works too but is a little claustrophobic

Dunno about 30 times (I've lost count, honestly), but I've definitely played, like, 7 versions of RE4, PS2 and crappy first PC ports being the first ones. Even the shit tier PC port couldn't suck out the enjoyment of playing it. The same with PC ports of DMC3 and Onimusha 3, by the way.

1. the history is actually good
2. the memes
3. how stupid/somewhat intelligent the ai can be
4. the memes
5. Leon
6. Amazing enemies
7. Nice dark theme that doesn't feel forced
8. The extras

Leaf? As in maple leaf? Ha. Too bad its way worse than that.

babby mode is load up on handgun ammo and nades DO NOT PICK UP THE SHOTGUN it spawns chainsaw man. go the house across from the shottie house, get inside then get in the bed room, let the little fuckers funnel and shoot till the bell rings.

But that's wuss mode, just pay attention to your surroundings and you'll be fine. you just gotta kille 10-13 of them

You forgot how it makes an escort missions actually relatively tolerable.

enemy variety post Baker senpai is dull AF but its okay better than six

It got boring during my first playthrough

Oh, well at least that image looks like Disney theme park concept art, right? Haha...

Yeah, if you really want the motion controls just get it on the wii

not at the price they're asking ATM. just go fucking gamestop and spend like $7-10 bucks on the Wii version for motion controls

Re7 rules but try to get gold edition, lots of creative dlc for the game

Attached: IMG_20190918_004008.jpg (274x202, 16K)

>Just go to PB and download the Wii version for 0 bucks for Dolphin
FTFY.

Babbys first resident evil

Is the Bear Grills DLC fun? Because among all of the extra stuff released for the game, that one seems the most fun.

>DO NOT PICK UP THE SHOTGUN it spawns chainsaw man

user you ought to play the game at least once before sharing your takes, you know?

It gave me a good laugh and was genuinely fun, the whole package was just a really neat take on RE

Are you talking about End of Zoe? It's ok gameplay-wise. It's sort of a meme take on the original game.

Only for portability sake. Which, too, is arguable. You can emulate GC version on the latest Android smartphones now. Honestly, I'd recommend the PC, PS4 or XONE version for 60 FPS. Preferably PC one, as it's moddable and there is an awesome HD project around that makes 3D models and textures way more detailed without being stylistically incoherent as some other HD dam projects.

>tfw I've bought a version of this game on almost every console iteration and the pc version

Switch runs at 60fps too.

I legit think I've finished RE4 over 50 times, I don't know why it's so replayable but I just randomly feel like replaying it so often. I think it's the pacing and no annoying unskippable cutscenes or bullshit walk and talk sections like modern games.

Why did you tell him? you fucked up now lol

this was the best part of the game, it all goes downhill from there

>and no annoying unskippable cutscenes
You thought I died in that crash 2 years ago, is that what they told you?

Attached: Jackkrauser_2.jpg (834x2000, 570K)

this is pretty true, i actually remember how quickly i switched when i first played and first encountered ashley
>oh no i actually have to escort her, she has her own health bar and everything, this is the worst...
>huh actually she sticks insanely close to my back and at least tries to make an effort to stay out of my scope
>hey she even (very rarely) points at things of interests sometimes. its all scripted but to be fair i wouldn't think to shoot this cart if she didn't point it out anyway
impressive how tolerable it is and how it never feels like a "that moment" that makes you not want to replay it over the years

Attached: 1539369245481.jpg (960x720, 60K)

Any cool or interesting mods?

The worst she gets imo is that part in the castle where you have her go for those levers on the platforms above you with a ton of guys coming after her and you at the same time, but even then she's not that bad.

That's a QTE. One of the only good ones ever made.

Ultimate HD Restoration

I think it's that adaptable difficulty system. Always keeps you on the edge and pushes you to keep moving forward, all playthroughs feel different.

I SAID FREEZE YOU FILTHY SPIC

*scoff* Sorry to have bothered you.

BOTHER ME I NEED ATTENTION!

Does this game reserve the "RE2 Beboot" treatment???

I hope not. I mean, RE2 Remake was okay, but I am afraid of Capcom fucking up something as well tuned as RE4. Better just give it Crash Trilogy or SotC treatment, with leaving everything intact and just touching up the graphics.

What the hell are they gonna add, string orchestras and mocapped cutscenes?
