Don't listen to this retarded faggot Someone who tells you shit like that doesn't have a clue what he's doing. With even the least bit of know-how you can fight 4-5 countries at once (and arguably should) and avoid losing any scenes on your first playthrough to houses getting deleted by rivals.

Recruit fodder units, look for high negotiating skill as that lets you declare war more easily, look for traits that increase money made in particular on shit like footmen. Sell all troops from commanders that you only have for construction and shit and use your fodder footmen to take hits/die instead of your valuable units.

Take advantage of the fact that you don't lose territory until all forts are taken and feel free to just sacrifice all but the last one, scouting can make a huge difference if you find out shit like Kenshin showing up (later you can send Rance to counter) or Isoroku being deployed (will snipe Rance and make you auto-lose)

Buffs are extremely powerful, when fighting Takeda be sure to bring a dispel to turn a meatgrinder into an easy win.

I mentioned this in a thread yesterday, but I've been stupidly positive about the release pace in the past. Like "Sengoku will come out in summer and Quest in Christmas!" but yeah, that clearly did not happen. For now unless something seriously terrible happens, Quest should be early next year, with others following pretty steadily.
Coming to this point our biggest block was having single programmer handle all of the series, but at the moment every Alicesoft game in pipeline is being handled by a different programmer. SLC is an absolute beast, but there's only so much that a single guy can do. So that should really ease up the process.

It'll probably happen.
Since MG doesn't really have warehouse with space to spare, we can't risk sitting on tons of unsold unpopular games. Of course, with how popular the series is Rance would totally sell, and in the past we've suggested to management that we should try doing day-1 physicals for it, but they don't really wanna risk commiting to it.
So it's the usual deal of seeing if something is popular, and then doing physicals if it is.

Because it's seriously old as balls. It's a sad fact, but most people really wouldn't wanna buy game that's 640x480 at this point, there's a reason we upgraded VI to double the resolution. And it was such a pain in the ass that we wouldn't wanna do it again.
Daiakuji is on similar boat to Atlach Nacha and other classic Alicesoft games, that they will probably not get official translation unless they get remaster similar to what Escalayer had. Though Alicesoft has been putting characters from those to keychains and other merch, so it might happen.

It's a thing in the Continent, appeared on Rance VI as well.

If you're not using guide, it looks about right for first playthrough. Most people don't realize this while playing since they savescum like crazy, but in-game flags for events triggering automatically are actually very lax but they do happen, so Alicesoft did expect players to take their time while playing the first time.

Just as an aside, if you do that Takeda will declare war on you and the raccoon dogs will join them. You will also need to attack both houses threatened by Mouri or they get eaten. Have fun with your 6 way war.

Far better bet is to just attack Uesugi and Takeda and leave Hojo, Uesugi can be held back infinitely by blocking with just Rance and only Takeda will field particularly dangerous armies, also know that once you beat either Takeda or the raccoon dogs the hanni will declare war on you as well, and Iga can randomly join in at any given time while this is all going on.

That's even worse my nigger, taking out Tokugawa first delays your extra action fan by several turns and gives you a lot of events you waste fans on in exchange for a commander that takes a ton of babysitting while you could have been rushing Miko's for one of the best commanders at that level (Natori and a ton of high tier mercs before their scaling kicks in)

1&2 got remasters as 0 versions and I think 3 is/did get one too. 4/5 (whichever is kikuchi[?]) did happen but got wiped away? idk, same for not knowing on the other. you can jump in N P
01+2 is getting official later, 3 not sure, and 4+5 got a dual package release.

I'm a newcomer, and so far I haven't seen anything that makes me go "Who is that supposed to be?" or "What was he talking about?" It's fun .

1 and 3 got a remake, 2 got a remaster. Basically 1.0 and 3.0 are completely different games while 2 only got a graphical overhaul.

I honestly don't know what you are on about. My first time playing Rance I fucked up Askikaga, Hara, Iga, then wheeled around and fucked up Tokugawa, the Hannies, maybe Asakura, and then went all out against Uesugi, Hojo, and Takeda. Using ninja's to scout for Kenshin so I could deploy Rance while capturing Ran made the whole thing fairly easy. Natori even joined my army later and I completed Souun's little quest and got him too. Shit was cash.

Stop... why are you playing so badly... There is literally zero reason to attack Iga and they basically give you free shit all the time.

Start with VI or Sengoku, or if you're willing to put up with some really dated games play release order. Kichikuou is optional but highly recommended, it's one of the best games in the series.
If you decide to do release order bear in mind that 1 and 2 aren't very good, so either play the digest versions or wait for the remakes (though 2's remake isn't very good either).
Everything up to Kichikuou is freeware at this point and you can get it at pastebin.com/rBedXy1Q while you can get 5D onwards from Mangagamer or sukebei.

Doesn't Iga attack you automatically after the first gourd breaks?

Once Iga declares war on you they send really weak ninja armies that basically just train your troops for minimal cost, they don't field any threatening units until after you've started to take over their territory and winning does't actually give you anything, so it's generally a waste of time if not an outright loss of a resource to defeat them.

Three main mechanics to keep in mind in SR is that armies passively heal every turn (based on upgrades this can go up a lot) and you're losing this heal on any undamaged unit. Units that survived a fight also get extra troops, which can be increased by some of the miko unit's passives. Essentially this means you want all your combat units to fight every turn so you get the free units and the healing, and Iga's ninja's are really good for accomplishing this as they do fuck-all damage. The third mechanic is capturing enemy units, which is another reason to always be fighting. You get a "rare candy" item that levels up a commander when used for every 10 prisoners you release and you can recruit prisoners and sell their units for gold, so you want as many prisoners as you can get, ninja's die easily so they're great for getting captured too.

This conversation is still relevant, even more after playing X

Your ommander roster is looking pretty weak. Heck, you still have all the generic Oda guys floating around. I'd focus on patching that up. Especially since you're floating so much national power.

Next satisfaction bonus, call for more reinforcements from Zeth to get Urza, who's one of the best characters in the game. Focus on pumping up her affection and grabbing her Accurate Shots skill.

For the time being, there should be two ronin you can recruit with actions in one of Chousin's old territories, the Kuge sisters. They aren't amazing but they both have decent utility skills.

Also, conquer the Miko Institute next. Focus on capturing Himiko, Goemon, and Hayate Souma, who are all pretty good. Nagahide's Fleeing Warrior Hunt + the Samurai Kuge's Mercy Attack basically gurantees you capture them. Note that you don't need to kill someone with Mercy Attack to increase their capture rate, just hit them with it before they die. You also get Natori for conquering them, and she's amazing.

If you played the game before you probably remember how good Kenshin is, so be sure to conquer Uesugi before her uncle kidnaps her and surrenders to you, or you won't get her. Once that's done, go to Tamba to grab the musket girl with the instant-kill attack, I forget her name, but you get her for free. Maybe her dad, too, he's just a generic musket guy except that he has two actions instead of just one, but that's pretty good.

Once you have more good commanders, you can start picking fights way faster and being more aggressive.

Not in the same turn, but have all three of them in my roster. When I have one of them in my roster, the recruitment events for the others seem to disappear. Or can you only recruit one of them every few turns?

Probably best practice just to refill fans as needed and not to set them above your limit or freeze the value since that can sometimes result in bugs/crashes. Just general cheat engine rules really.

Tacticians rely heavily on their INT stat. Not only does a higher INT give extra buffs at the start of battle (one per point, spread randomly) it also increases the strength of buffs. So when you start unlocking great tacticians like Ai from Uesugi (Battle Strategy 2, 8 INT) or Tourin from Takeda (Battle Strategy 3, 6 INT) you'll be wanting one in every single squad. Tourin with some INT textbooks thrown on him can buff nearly your entire team with a 50% increase in all stats on his first turn.

Kenshin's route has pretty nice gimmick, and some interesting gameplay.
Ran's route is lame, but can be cleared fast at least so you can run it for points. There's lots of waiting, though.
Isoroku's route has pretty good story, but it has even more waiting than Ran's. Probably worst route in game as far as playability goes.

After you take two territories from them, if I recall correctly. You should get an event with them mulling over having lost quite bit of territory.

the Isoroku route isn't much different from the true route.
The kenshin route's probably the most fun, and has the most triumphant ending.
the Ran route's also fun, and feels the most different from the others. Some of it doesn't feel entirely thought out, though.

Play 1 is basically an extended tutorial, the game won't let you fail, so you can do pretty much whatever you want and experiment, enjoy the story.
NG+ is where you can actually fail and will want to plan things out better, actions are always important, you get them through obtaining Sat.

The shota is only worth it if you wanna start jumping through hoops to capture youkais and fight Masamune, which isn't really worth doing on your first playthrough.

They reward items/equipment and raise your character's levels.

Some of them do actually useful still like raising National Power of area or leveling up your commanders, but pork hunt is just for money, and getting one of the seven hidden treasures (which are only good for points).
Speaking of leveling commanders, when you get decent crew set up I suggest that you start running through dungeons to level everybody up. The final battle is gonna be pain in ass if you don't.

I think somebody tried this in the threads, but I didn't hear if that ended up working out.

Increases damage of mages/magic, but mages are usually pretty shit. I'm pretty sure it also reduces damage taken from magic though.

Basically there's only one character that uses int for damage effectively and that's Omachi. Natori is another powerful mage type but her damage is just a regular attack and a big magic attack that wipes out a set percentage of enemies. It's a relevant stat for Magic but she shows up right around the time where she also stops being an effective character (she's strong early/midgame but generally won't show up until late into midgame)

You can avoid them declaring war if you're constantly at war with someone else, they only declare war if you're not at war every turn. They're not really a threat so you can leave them alone for a while and let them attack since they can't do much.

Sengoku is a good entry point on its own, but you will miss all the references. Since it has good replayability, you can play it once, then play older games and get back to it.
Old rance games are old, so you'll need stomach to handle early 90s graphics and system that's able to boot it.

You don't get any real good foot soldiers until later on really. One of the Kuge sisters which you can recruit pretty early on will help a bit but her stats aren't the greatest. You can pick up Senhime also kind of early on, she'll last you till the end of the game but she'll slowly get outclassed.

Haha Ranman is similar but there's no NTR if you lose. It was released recently and had pretty strong reception for a new IP by Alicesoft

Tsumamigui 3 is basically just a played straight nukige with light time management elements and some NTR if you fuck up that aspect of the game while you're playing on serious love mode.
