Each player gets to make their own choice.

I made my best friend in elementary school cry because we had a sleep over game session, it was our first time ever finally getting to the final boss, and I chose to defect and absolutely stomped his ass down.

There's a part where you get to play as Catwoman. You have the option of either saving Batman or letting him fucking die. You go with the first choice the game plays out as normal or if you let him die you get the bad ending where Joker wins and Batman is dead

It was a good ending because now both Shinji and Asuka accept people and themselves and can now love and be happy with each other and with the people who will be coming back
