I wouldn't really say it's the exact same because the bugs are all working together. The Locust enslave creatures from the Hollow and repurpose them for war like Seeders, Reavers, Tickers, Corpsers, Brumaks and Serapedes.

I'm trying to fucking download Gears 5 on pc, but it just gives me an error every time I try. Does anyone know anything? Windows is updated, I've reset MS Store, uninstalled and reinstalled too. I also made sure the download is going to a drive with enough space.

The Locust are so great because they use a diverse cast of enemy types from grunts to giant worms. They're the perfect antagonist.

Currently replaying the series and there was so much unique and elaborate shit that the Locust do. Like Seeders inking the sky with cysts that jam radio communication and create artificial night for Kryll swarms.

Also their "vehicles" are metal as fuck. I mean what other antagonist has anything close to how fucking cool a Brumak is.

I liked Gears of War at the time when "shiny new console" was still kind of a novelty when I was a teenager. I played the hell out of both games with my brother. Still wonder if they kind of hold up at all. I've been meaning to get a Xbox One just for the backwards compatible games, but I might grab that Gears Collection.

I liked how the multiplayer was COGS vs Locust everytime. I loved playing locust and either did basic ass grunt or theran guard. Havent played since Gears 3 but Im betting that skins are behind paywalls now?

Initially all three of the new main characters sucked and were boring fucks, finding out about the Swarm was more interesting than them and old Marcus was easily a million times more likable. In Gears 5, Kait and Del are still boring and Kait is even worse because she's been hit with full SJW mary sue syndrome where she's better than everyone else and everyone likes her. JD is actually more interesting, for a while anyway, because they allow him to be flawed and to make mistakes but ultimately it's just in service of removing him as the main character of the new trilogy and having him be subservient to Kait.

Also the Swarm are such wasted potential, they could've been way creepier and more dangerous than the Locust but instead they're almost indistinguishable except for the fucking pods.

It was incredibly forgettable, I felt like they tried to make Baird out into more of a likeable character but it doesn't work in my opinion.
The fun part of Baird in the old games was how he was the smartass of the group who didn't really work as a leader but was a very loyal companion to the end.

Gears 5's campaign was shit, so no, not really. You'll most likely still have to play as Kait too despite how shit she is. Glad I didn't buy it.

First three games were great, even soulful. Horde and beat mode are still fun to occasionally play co-op with my brother to this day. Even Judgement was fun for a playthough, its MP modes were what blew.

4 and 5 look fine too, I just haven't felt like it for whatever reason.

I like the overall premise I just wanna know more about the setting of everything prior to the history of Emergence Day. I remember reading tidbits that they are the backwater remains of a long dead star empire. The war between the COG and the UIR is something I would have liked them to expand upon given the length and overall destruction it caused on the planet.

Oh fuck I'm so conflicted. About a year ago I played through Gears 1 and 2 on insane, and stopped at 3 bc I didnt have Insane unlocked.
Should I just say fuck it, and replay 1 and 2 AGAIN, then 3 on hardcore, and then 4.
I remember a few parts in 1 towards the end giving me trouble, with the new locations in Ultimate Edition, and that one part of the inner hollow before the big fights with the gayes gave me trouble.

just played through the campaign of 5 (haven't played 4) over the course of three days with a friend. probably like 25-30 hours, with us stopping to look for widgets and collectables in every area and doing all the side missions. Co-op was pretty fun on 'Experienced', many of the encounters were challenging but not so challenging as to be stupid.The open world parts were weird but kind of fun. The only really annoying thing was as you got into the end of act 3 and act 4 the enemies start having 2-3 grenadiers with every wave, so if you don't get all of them immediately it's basically blind luck whether they instakill you with grenades, because at that difficulty they don't miss and just diving away isn't enough to save you unless you get lucky. That and Scions leading hardcore with dropshots, it started to get really frustrating towards the end. But for most of it I thought it was pretty fun in co-op, don't know if it'd be nearly as fun just playing through by myself.

She's a human experimented on to be immune to imulsion. The locusts just took a liking to her.

I love the first two games, 3 was alright, but I haven't even felt the urge to play anything past that.

1 and 2 were awesome, but I never played 3 or Judgement. I played 4 and 5 but the only good things about the new ones were the world building. In 4, the prologue was getting to fight in the Pendulum wars which was cool. 5 showed that the planet was a "What if Vikings and Arabs ruled the world?" Where many of the COGs people and stuff hail from a viking ish culture turned Nazi/Italian fascist. While the UIR was like combine America, Afghanistan, and Russia together (They looked middle eastern, sounded russian, and had 1950's american military look). I just want more Pendulum war knowledge, cause so far the whole lore of this planet seems to be a whole race of buffest things from history all combined.

It only needed Horde/Beast and I would've been totally fine with it. Otherwise the occasional turret-defense segments were the highlight of it. Both versions of the Markza were great, almost OP. Locust varient almost outclassed the shotty.

It was an amazing, complete trilogy. 3 was even kinda tacked on tbqh. First one was incredibly influential and pretty much the perfect cover shooter, second one brought a top-tier horde mode for LAN parties. Both were fun as fuck in coop and the multiplayer being a completely different game than single despite shared basic mechanics was a cherry on top.
The only issue is, mechanics were not really expandable enough to keep churning out more. It should've stayed on X360 were you'd fondly remember it as one of the defining games of the generation. Maybe revisit the franchise 20 years down the line as nostalgiabait.

Was always a big fan of the first three games in about every respect. Campaign's story wasn't the greatest, but it was memey and fun for co-op, multi has its charm, and they kept implementing new PVP and co-op modes and improving on what they had.

Gears 4 while not being bad just really ... lacked the charm and was crippled by some retarded design decisions such as card packs and the like. I haven't beat 5 yet, but the multi's looking to be the same way with most of the characters you'd want to play as (Baird, Cole, Carmine) locked behind a slow drip feed of content, and just some all around questionable decisions to modes like horde.

Kind of. In 5 they fly a Raven past Chap's gas station which is where you fill up the car of Dom's stranded buddy. JD is named after Dom. There's some off handed remark about Marcus and tomatoes. I think a collectible mentioned the commandos, but I'm not certain.

Don't forget the gravestone you can find of Dom and Maria that gives you a 1shot Boltok for the rest of the campaign if you play it in a single run and don't drop it.
