Did I fuck up already if I played this one first
I'm thinking of playing MGS next, Then 2, 4 and 5.
MGS Playing order
Play 5 afterwards, then 1, 2 and 4
I don't know why people do this. Play or watch shit in production order. Jesus fucking christ.
3 is relatively self contained but PW and V spoil the shit out of the Solid Snake era. Also at least watch the movie cuts of Metal Gear 1/2 before Solid.
youtube.com
3 is the start of the timeline you're just playing the story in order
Remember to skip all ''missing link'' games aka PO, PW and V.
Go 3,1,2,4,5. trust me.
I'd go 4,2,3,1,4, 5
You kind of fucked up but that play order correcting of 1,2,4,5 next will do you fine. Don't worry too much about it.
I would play MGS2 next, portable ops, MGS1, acid, V, 4, acid 2 and finally peace walker
yes play it like a non retard in order DUH STOOPID
any retards in this thread telling you to play in chronological order are just that. play in release order. also play peace walker. its a mainline metal gear and 5 is the direct sequel to it. mg1,mg2,1,2,3,4,pw,5
You don't really learn shit, you just get an expanded explanation, so no
The only game you shouldn't play first is 2, 1 is literally mandatory for the full effect
The best part of MGS 3 is that it's so self contained. Yeah, it furthers the lore, but the main plot and Naked Snake's journey tell a good beginning and end tale. You could play every game after it, or never play another MGS game again and it's still worthwhile.
I started out with 4. I've never been more confused than that in my life.
Opie here. I take it I should go MGS, MGS2, MGS4, MGS5?
Movie cuts of Metal Gear 1/2 first.
youtube.com
and Peace Walker between 4 and 5.
Could you elaborate on this a bit because I started playing chronological and finished 3 and have been playing Peace Walker but have yet to see any spoilers for MGS 1 and 2. I just got to the Cocoon boss fight do they start after that or am I just retarded and didn't see them.
They're later. Without wishing to spoil, MGS4 reveals that certain characters did a lot of shit in the past and PW and V have discussions about what said characters are planning and why because the game assumes you already learned this information the proper way.
this
Alright, should I stop playing or should I just commit to it at this point? I think that it might be interesting to see the "what people are planning" like with Granin with the Metal Gear blueprints in 3 were like, but I want to be careful because you can only find something out for the first time once.
Stop playing and come back later. All you really need to know about those plans was it being a justification to call MGS3 a Metal Gear game since no actual Metal Gear shows up. What comes across as a big shocking moment in MGS2 and 4 is very casually mentioned in PW and V as something in motion.
Shagohad is technically a metal gear, loosely speaking
3 first
Very loosely. So loose they had to throw in plans for proper Metal Gears and have a codec with Sigint where he gives real world reasoning for why Bipedal tanks are stupid.
You should have played in reverse chronological order.
Play Portable Ops between 4 and Peace Walker.
considering I was like ten years old when MGS2 came out, I didn't have much say in what games we got, so I imagine it's the same for a lot of people
I played MGS2 first which is hilarious in retrospect. Then three, then the first, then four and five; but I still haven't even finished four or five yet as they just feel like complete slogs and i can never play em for more than a few hours
Lol, if any of those can be skipped, it's portable ops. Kojima didn't direct it and it does not have the A Hideo Kojima Game stamp.
Honestly tc, Portable Ops, is one of those games that you should really only play if you're already a huge fan of the series and just HAVE to have more MGS. As a game, it's pretty fucking shit. It's a very tedious game, that doesn't even have the benefit of good controls. It isn't saved by an amaxing story, the presentation of the drama is yawn inducing. It's just a big pile of meh.
Kojima himself ended up coming around a few years later and making a canon handheld MGS mainline game in Peace Walker, which is millions of times better.
Having said all that though, Portable Ops, as game overall (minus the actual gameplay) is way better than MGS4. I don't care what yall say. GotP was horrible.
Only good thing about PO is calling to the night and Usula.
>MGS 1
>MGS 2
>SE
>Portable OPS
>4
>Rising
>5
Any other order is incorrect
MGS3 is a prequel to 1 and 2 so it's largely self-contained, but there's several bits of dialog that go like "hey, wouldn't it be funny if [thing that happens in MGS1] happened" "haha yeah as if" that probably went over your head.
Don't member much about Ursula, but Calling to the Night got a LOT of playtime in the cassette player in Peace Walker. Amazing song.
Play it in release order you absolute fucking nigger
Sure you can play it in chronological order, but you'll miss out on all the nuance and callbacks and thematic elements since MGS3 is chock full of references to 1 and 2.
Not to mention the jump in gameplay mechanics where each game progressively becomes more modern. Playing in chrono order means you're jumping back and forth between older controls and modern controls
MGS 3 and MGS for the PSX are the only Metal Gear games worth playing, and MGS2 has a few scenes worth watching on Youtube.
That's it. Doesn't matter what order you play them in. The overarching story is only interesting enough to get you hooked, and then drop you off a cliff of batshit insane and retcons lazily played off as twists. And not even the fun kind of batshit insane, but the migraine inducing kind.
1->2->3->5
retard
Any games/movies done better outside release order?
I know for star wars the recommended order is
45236.
Reminder that Eva is voiced by The Little Mermaid. David Hayter said last year Eva's VA used a stage name because their existing contracts forbid them from doing things like Metal Gear and if you listen to the robot voice in Flubber, it's the same damn voice.
i mean if you play for the chronological order this is the first, but obviously you should play in release order
>I'm thinking of playing MGS next, Then 2, 4 and 5.
i think it's better this way now
Play in release order you absolute retard. Always play/watch/read everything in release order.
Sometimes creators say otherwise, Nagoshi says in interviews that 0 is the new Yakuza starting point.
Play 1 or Twin Snakes.
Then play 2, 4, Portable Ops, Peace Walker, Rising, and then Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain.
Portable Ops is skippable if you hate it.
...
MGS3>MGSPO>MGSPW>MGS5>MG>MG2>MGS1>MGS2>MGS4>MGR
I started with 3, never played 1 or 2 and then proceeded to play 4 then 5. come at me
3 is in my top 5 too
>4 and 5.
nah, you can skip em. 1-3 are like the perfect trilogy. 3 different periods of warfare, 3 different distinct themes, 3 different protagonists
Big Boss era
MGS3>MGSPO>MGSPW>MGS5>
MG>MG2>
Solid Snake era
MGS1>MGS2>MGS4>
Raiden
MGR

Have what replaced Solid 1/2 in canon.
Actually, I retract a bit of that statement. MGS2 absolutely IS worth playing - but not for the story or even the gameplay. It's worth playing as a time capsule of what we expected, what we hoped, games would do in future generations. There are tons of little details, environmental inter-activities, AI triggers, and such hidden all throughout the game that it really makes for an impressive demonstration of a future that was never meant to be. Everything from being able to shoot out the radio on an enemies belt, to ice from an icebucket slowly melting after being tipped over, to enemies being able to see your reflection in a mirror without direct line of sight to the player. (Hell, good luck finding working mirrors in modern games) Some of the stuff may not even seem all that impressive now, but within the context of where the series and games in general had come from just a few years earlier - it was a revolution and really invited interaction with the environment to either just see what shit did, or to find clever and novel solutions to problems the designers never intended. Or did intend, but cleverly hid.
A lot of this stuff you'll also find in MGS 3, but I wasn't nearly as apt to play around outside of the direct paths and advancing the story - partly because I guess I'd already seen it in MGS2 a few years earlier, and partly because MGS3 actually had a story that I wanted to see unfold.
So yeah... MGS2 is worth playing through as a curiosity. A time capsule of unfulfilled potential in games. And again... order doesn't matter.
Creators are fucking retarded.
You are both fucking retarded and if you didn't already watch star wars before the prequels existed you can fuck off and die.
Chill user lmao. Why are you mad?
the correct order is actually 4 then 5 and then 6 last
C.S. Lewis did the same thing with the Narnia books but he was wrong.
Reverse release order is THE ONLY way to go. You understand the ridiculous levels of subversion and treason of MGS1 when you play them in reverse order.
it's really annoying in V that you can't shoot out radios
>nobody mentioning Peace Walker
wtf. OP play that first. You can thank me later.
don't listen to this guy, play AC!D 2 first
Fuck off child.
you fucked up by playing a MGS game at all
I'm older than you kid.
It’s just a weak story. Very generic, none of the characters are memorable, and it’s pretty directionless. The back story is more interesting. Also, there is this weird form of sexism in the writing where every evil or crazy character is male and there is only one good man.
Paz is mai waifu
Stop replying to me you underaged shitheel.
I like twin snakes. Start with twin snakes and tell everyone to eat a dick.
Canon games sorted by in-game timeline
>Metal Gear Solid 3
>Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
>Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
>Metal Gear Solid V
>Metal Gear 1
>Metal Gear 2
>Metal Gear Solid 1
>Metal Gear Solid 2
>Metal Gear Solid 4
>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
don't forget to play Death Stranding (aka METAL GEAR ZERO)
pd: chico is quiet
MGS2 VR missions was the peak of the series.
Yes, you played the best one.
Should've started with the dogshit that are MGSV and PW first. It's only upwards after that.
