Honestly I'm not sure Kamiya is a good option either. If he by some miracle gets to work on a DMC game, I hope he doesn't forget his own character. However I'm 99% sure he would implement some annoying gimmick or minigame.

DMC1 Dante is my favourite too but wacky pizza party Dante clearly endeared to the fans and did better business that way. One complaint I don't think I've seen anyone else bring up for DMC5 Dante is how he swears. He never swore before but in 5 he cusses quite a lot. Its jarring and doubly so as foul mouthed brat is Nero's gimmick. Dante felt like a Saturday morning cartoon character stuck in a grim, mature and demonic world, at least with 3 and 4.

5 Dante is enjoying himself, but he gets serious when he has to. Almost all his dialogue with Urizen is serious, and he gets serious when things need to be; i.e. the father reveal scene.

The English dub is horrible and it's known that these "localization" tend to take creative freedoms too often. If you watched with Japanese dub, Dante didn't swear. The only reason I watched with Jap dub was because the English one was that bad. The whole anime sucked too.
Either way this is all additional content that's often half canon, what's presented in the games is what matters.
