Digital Foundry just did a video on why CRTs are """better""" than IPS displays...

Digital Foundry just did a video on why CRTs are """better""" than IPS displays. Get ready for the prices of CRTs to go up even worth and for even shitty sets to start costing an arm and a leg.

This is why gate-keeping is a good thing.

I wish I kept my old CRT's.

Why? They're heavy, low-resolution, noisy, and need constant adjustment. If you want true blacks that much just buy an OLED set.

>Brother finally moves out of the house
>Finally have room to move my Sony CRT back in the house
>Me and my friend pick it up and as we are both carrying insight, we start to hear a bunch of pops and cracks.
>Soon a big chuck my friend was grabbing just shatters into a thousand plastic pieces, we lose balance but set the tv down gently
>The plastic cracking started a chain reaction and before we knew it we had a pile of broken plastic bits with a big ol tube sticking out pointing into the air

The plastic mustve dried over many years, no longer a able to support the immense weight

I smash every CRT monitor or tv i find on the street

I'm glad I managed to gather: three computer monitors, five TVs and six arcade monitors (all in cabinets) for 20 bucks not counting the cost of the whole arcade cabinets. I acquired them over the years since 2013, the 20 bucks came from one of the computer monitors.

>zoomers think old shit randomly gets Thanos'd after a few years
Fake-ass story.

LOL these fucking kids. Seriously, man. I played on CRT TVs up to a mammoth 46" tube that weighed as much as a car, and monitors from 1981 through 2001. Nothing they do justifies giving up 85" displays and 4k resolutions with embedded Smart-TV features. But you guys have fun with those memes. If you remember, be sure to make fun of yourself in 6 months when you realize you never touch your CRTs anymore because you realized a 55"+ 4k screen is more luxurious than darker blacks.

If CRTs were remotely competitive, they'd still make them in bulk for the consumer class. And no, it's not because they're expensive to make. It's because most people are dumbshits that would pay $1000+ for CRTs.

I'll have to keep an eye on this. Might be a good time to finally get rid of mine.

Only autists would care about this. If your life is so fucking empty that you actually care about this type of shit unironically kill yourself

You have been talking to yourself for too long, homes.

Who the fuck cares about giant TVs and high resolutions when everything made for them sucks?

You're watching the wrong porn.

Why the fuck would I give a shit about CRT prices? Anybody who knew how good CRTs were before already have one or more. Anybody who only learned about it recently don't deserve to find one cheap because they never devoted any time into learning what's best or developing distinguished taste.

tl;dr: Fuck em.

my dad had a huge Sony CRT TV that came over from America, it was probably taller than me when we got it, fucking huge thing that needed two+ strong men to move it

>Using "Thanos'd" as a verb
>calling anyone else a zoomer

>Thinks the movie invented the snap
Zoomer

Attached: file.png (863x696, 1.31M)

Don't try to damage control capeshitter. No one used "Thanos'd" in a sentence before the movie came out.

>Thinks the movie invented the snap
No one even said that.

I haven't seen the movie or read the comic book; I specifically made a young people reference.
That's the joke, young people love capeshit so much that's how they think real life is.

Do all zoomer retards have such room-temp IQs?

Attached: 1445993567604.png (320x287, 104K)

Is there a way to make crts that don't weight that much and don't take so much space?

I grew up in an upper middle class family. We always had nice, high end CRT tvs. Gigantic big screen CRTS that you need like 4 fucking people to move, the best brands that money could by. I grew up playing on those TVs.

The new shit is significantly better.

I wish this retarded trend would lower the price on normal flat panel TVs. But since only foreveralone gullible sub-saharran IQ people are participating in this meme (and everyone else that doesn't drool while deep in thought will continue to buy normal flat panels) I guess that won't happen.

Capeshit comics aren't worth wiping your ass with

I saw this on /vr/.

>Nothing they do justifies

better blacks, better colors, and they look way better with older games.

They're really good for old horror games.

Attached: me atm.png (250x200, 55K)

I used CRTs they fucking burn your eyes
Used them until i was 18

I got some old shitty CRT TV, finna be a certified billionaire!

>Already have a 1080p CRT recased in a wood and metal enclosure

Attached: 219837981.jpg (338x506, 71K)

lower the contrast

>got 3 CRTs sitting in my basement from when Grandma sold her house and moved with my mom. one for Nintendo, one for Sega and Sony and Xbox will share the last one

Attached: Leitdorf now there was an elector count.png (566x633, 463K)

That's not how snapping works at all...

I'll bnei sure to worry when 'm busy not buying a CRT ever again.

I kept my crts. I have a mint quality pc and decent tv one with component input. I have no reason to upgrade.

Shhhhhh.... Don't tell them.

Still doesn't overpower the benefits of a 100" 8k SmartTVs or 144hz 4k 32" curved widescreen monitors. In 6 months, the curbs will be lined with CRTs. I'm going to think of you each time I see one.

>Still doesn't overpower the benefits of a 100" 8k SmartTVs or 144hz 4k 32" curved widescreen monitors

what benefits?

CRT meme is literally just for autists and the poor.

>Can buy a 4k tv for like $400
>CRTs are for poor people

I still had a CRT when I first played Condemned 2. I had to stop using it because it made every bit of HD font unreadable causing me to fail every detective section of the game.

I've got this thing sitting underneath my giant Ikea desk because it's just too fucking big

Attached: G90FB.jpg (733x947, 191K)

>85" displays and 4k resolutions
on 60hz with 1000ms response time lol

I work in electronic waste management, and I get hundreds of CRTs a week that get dismantled and scrapped.

>embedded Smart-TV features
Jesus

>there are people who are proud about keeping hazardous waste in their homes

Fake and gay

>They're really good for old horror games.
Fucking this
If you aren't playing Silent Hill on a CRT you're playing it wrong

This is true. I work with old CRTs every single day that people bring in to dispose of. Some of these TVs have plastic that fucking crumbles due to sitting in the elements or something. It sucks to clean up.

CRTs are only good for color accuracy and true blacks which don't matter for 99% of the userbase.

>CRTs are only good for color accuracy and true blacks which don't matter for 99% of the userbase

imagine being dumb and sharing your dumb opinions

>embedded Smart-TV features
>Implying I want my TV to spy on me

If both IPS and CRT technology rely on the exact same RGB triads to generate color how TF can CRTs have better color than IPS displays? IPS even has some sub divided triads which give them the ability to reproduce more colors than CRTs.

>low-resolution
i used to have a trinitron and it supported 1800x1440 which was pretty legit and sounded like a microwave everytime it turned on. i only dropped it because it died on me, rip

Well at least that nerd admits it's a fetish. I think i'll stay with my 75' OLED for now.

Why would you drop a tv silly?

the most common cause of brittle plastic is due to sun exposure.

my dad uninronically wanted to drop it off a carpark roof but reasonable voices stopped him

So you think a comic from the 80's is zoomer? Derp

I like being able to read my text

Those fucks are so retarded with their RTX obsession that they are happy to play with a CRT since they can't play a ray traced game at more than 1080p.

>embedded Smart-TV features
Nigga that's a fucking guarantee that the TV is cheap piece of trash that will die in a few years. Just get a streaming box or use your PC or console like a normal person.

What did he mean by this
No seriously they're fucking PS1 and PS2 games what the fuck did he mean by this

>there are dumbshits in the world who actually think having protons and unfiltered UV radiation fired directly into your face for hours on end is desirable
Have fun with your migraines, skin cancer, cataracts, and permanent motion sickness. It happened to me and tens of thousands of others who used CRTs back when they were the standard, it'll happen to you.

>mfw I bought a Sony Trinitron flat panel CRT with component input and 3.1 Dolby audio for $15
Not progressive scan but damn color blending is not an issue.

Not gonna lie if you actually care about comic books you are a pathetic person

CRTs need to be fucking gate kept.

Attached: crts.png (2330x2354, 1.51M)

>buying CRTs online

Attached: what's wrong with you.gif (446x251, 721K)

what the fuck. they wanted to turn a TV set into a planter?

What kind of shithole do you live in that people abandon CRT's on the side of the street.

so how can you get PC output into a PVM? I kinda want to use mine to watch some old anime and play somee DOS games

It would be extremely complicated and not worth it for either. DOS games weren't made for TVs they were made for CRT PC monitors. Also you'd also have a maximum resolution of basically 240p or 480i rendering Windows unusable.

The CRT was a brilliant engineering marvel, But like everything in the realm of technology get displaced by time and innovation. Let old technology die. I don't miss it. I don't miss 480i display, I don't miss the 4:3 aspect ratio, I don't miss needing two people to carry a 25" display. Emulation is and always was a better experience.I get all the upsides of retro gaming without any of the downsides. And if you want that warm fuzzing feeling from that dose of unhealthy amounts of radiation more power to you.

>inferior technology good!
>I love paying hundreds of dollars for dusty relics!
>can I get some sound crystals to put on the audio output?

Attached: 1521328846377.gif (413x243, 51K)

Calling what you get from CRTs radiation is a stretch. It's not radioactive. It's the same "radiation" you get from any light source.

Yeah IPS sucks dick

You're acting like this is a new concept

Literally the opposite

>what is uv damage

It's unfiltered UV radiation, the same you get from the fucking sun with no Ozone layer. As such, you can end up with skin cancer. Sounds totally worth it for marginally better colours.

I have a 36 inch CRT collecting dust in the basement. How the fuck do i move it? It's over 200 pounds.

CRT isn't inferior or they wouldn't spend so much money on making lcd look more like CRT lmao. Old games like doom3 are totally ruined with modern display tech

Not him but I can prove this happens to plastic. I have shit in this very room that will crumble with the slightest tap.

TN panels = color banding, terrible contrast
VA panels = horrible ghosting
IPS panels = IPS glow ruining dark areas

Is there a single gaming display that's not a piece of shit?

Attached: 1567882091852.png (708x1000, 776K)

hit the gym

>Used to always have CRT hooked up to my PC video my video cards S-video output back in 2005
>Upgrade a couple of generations
>Decide i want the same setup and buy a hdmi to svideo cable
>Get static on TV.
>Google it and find out that its not a supported feature anymore. You gotta dump serious cash for a descaling unit and a couple of other items that i cant recall atm. Was in the mutiple hundreds of dollars range.
>Give the fuck up]

My CRT has been outside for like 5 years and is probably full of roaches by now

Wooden doweling track across the floors, straps and a lot of cardboard and ducttape to get it up the stairs, the a dumpster to throw it out after if breaks by falling down a half a foot drop

It's less than what you get from the sun with a full ozone layer, you numbskull. You are exposed to more radiation with your window blinds up. You're repeating old wive's tales from the mother fucking 1930s.

Attached: 1472084823054.jpg (1053x659, 331K)

Soft pixels mix better

I have an old 27in crt i use for pre gamecube/ps2 era, but im playing new games on a 75in oled and a 2070.

>soft pixels
this is the nicest way of saying "blurry mess" I've ever heard

>He thinks anyone cared about a villain who was mainly known for getting cucked by a joke character before the movies

forced meme cock suckers

>Digital Foundry
Ugh, Xbros

Attached: 234633737.png (1804x686, 133K)

Its more like projectors actually

I really wish there was a good way of upscaling RF video signals. my old crt tv died years ago and HDTVs do a terrible job at reading 240p from pretty much anything. it makes playing an atari, intellivision or colecovision way more blurry

When are TV companies gonna start making new models for this type of situation?
I know that everyone owns a modern HDTV now and that CRT's are basically dead, but these deserve a market for enthusiasts. Produce them in limited quantities if need be.
Like fuck I'm gonna drop a couple hundred bucks on some ancient piece of shit that's probably on life support just because a large majority of devices work better with it.

Plastic begins to decompose and become brittle if exposed to sunlight for extended periods which is probably what happened.

Its way more expensive to make a CRT compared to any LCD or LED tv. you might get some specialty manufacturers at some point like you see with tube amplifiers but even those are far simpler than a TV

Tfw this happened to my SNES
IS there any way to restore integrity to the plastic ? I heard boiling it worked to make it less brittle but that it won't make it white again.

t. s korean

It's almost like they ran out of ideas for videos...

Wont happen. Most modern tvs are built in a couple of factories in Asia and product stickers thrown on super qhicm.

Crts took a long time to make and machines struggled to not break the bulb in the supply chain, so the 5 cent an hr asians end up working more and costing these smart tv/sell all your information companies make less money. New crts and plasma(rip my favorite) are dead

I guess I should have saved all those sony crt tv/monitors I would find in the dumpster. They're just back breaking to deal with though, and I only get yelled at for bringing them home.

This makes no sense at all.

>implying people follow Digital Foundry
>implying people played Control in the first place
>especially when Quantum Break was a commercial failure
This is a shill, isn't it.

>someone bought the FW900 on ebay for $1000
lmao

>Digital Foundry just did a video on why CRTs are """better""" than IPS displays.

link or fuck off.

Thanks for illustrating another reason why gatekeeping is a good thing.

OLED would be great if they didn't get burn in just from turning your back on it for 30 seconds.

>Digital Foundry convinces tech illiterates to buy CRTs
>demand for IPS goes down
>price gets cut
Thanks, dipshits.

>inceLEDs seething like always
>imagine being 2019 and your monitor is still destroyed by a crt monitor from 10+ years ago
OH NO NO

Jewgle it retard.

>CRTrannies talking shit when they are paying hundreds of dollars for ancient technology that no one makes anymore and will all be dead in another decade
OH NO NO NO

The FW900 was already expensive as fuck before the video. If you thought that video coming out was what prevented you from getting one, you're delusional.

Anyways at the rates decent monitors are going for nowadays might as well just wait until black friday for a C9 since it'll probably be around the same price.

Retards not understanding motion resolution. LCD/OLED etc. are literally decades behind when it comes to this. The natural look and feel of motion on a CRT has yet to be reached. There some new tech coming out in the next few years that promises results but its a wait an see until then.
