Cause i'm retarded and always forget email used or passwords.
most of them needing phone authenticator to log in and updates to use is a pain in the ass, I just want to play a videogame not have to search after which pants I left my phone in and wait for updates to download and install
some people around here thinks that China wants their data as if Facebook and Google dont have i already
Extra launchers are only bad when the launchers themselves are fucking bad. Take Origin for example, it throws a pissfit whenever you want to change the location of your installed games instead of just letting you easily pick the directory at install. It wants to change the entire install path for all future games when you pick a new one. On top of that the download management doesn't really have a queue, so sometimes the game you want to play has an update, but some other shit needs to update first. I've literally uninstalled games just because of how fucking annoying not having an update queue is. It's small shit like that, poor programming and poor design usually that gets me pissed.
origin is pretty stuck in time
everything you just mentioned is stuff that it was doing better than steam was, when origin launched
but it never improved from that time and steam eventually had to stopped being embarrassed by origin and gmg and all the other garbage and catch up
having more launchers is fine I guess, they can have different advantages
launchers doing nothing to differentiate themselves, nothing to offer a compelling service is a bad thing
People forget why Steam's launcher was so useful to game devs in the first place. They basically just managed their game files for them. Before steam you would have to down games from a disc or the dev would have to host the files themselves and maintain them. Also if it was an online game they had to implement it themselves.
Steam came and basically allowed to the devs to just be lazy and send their files to steam to put into a library and downloaded by a customer. They paid off the top of their sales for convenience.
Now that hosting files and implementing online is much easier and cheaper I wish we could go back to downloading individual games directly from the dev/publisher since we really dont need storefronts like Steam anymore. Instead every publisher just wants their own launcher to try and keep people in their own eco system and to collect information for marketing or the Chinese.
they aren't. diversity is good
It's one of those things like menstrual cramps. If you don't have experience with PCs, you will never understand.
I thought the blurred image in the back was some person bent over with a gaping asshole
There's nothing wrong with any of the ones in the pic.
If it's not on steam then I'm not buying. plain and simple.
Fucking based.
2 social credit points have been added to your file.

only launchers that moneyhat games they didn't make are bad
You just have to know which one is the best. In my case its called torrent. Huge market of games for literally no price at all.
My problem with different launchers is that most them don't offer me something that others don't with the exception of games. I need more incentive to use shit than what games I am getting from it. As is, the majority of launchers sell the games that company publishes and with certain ones that is single digit. I don't want to have a launcher just to play 2-3 games that interest me.
It's the reason why I love GOG so much.
All of them are fine except Epic, they are incredibly unsafe, their service is absolute shit by every conceivable metric and they're bringing anti-competitive exclusivity tactics to the PC markets.
Pirate every EGS exclusive.
Dilate
I only like to use Steam, but I still could not agree with you or the others talking about information collecting more.
annoying
on the off chance I don't pirate, no steam no buy
>Why does Yea Forums hate Steam?
What an interesting question, thanks for asking, my dear shitposter!
Let's go over it:
> Aggresively inserting steamworks as pc standard that prevent selling game using it on another storefronts killing any hopes of natural competition in pc gaming sphere.
> Killing physical copies with the help of big publishers. Making us even worse than consolefags in terms of game copies possession
>has constant security breaches, if you register an account with them then your data is NOT safe
>Refuse to fix their security issues forcing white hats to go public about them
>has been proven to literally spy on your entire PC to find information on your gaming preferences
>Tried to monetize mods
>Invented lootboxes
>Shareholders are not public. We don't know who owns 49% of valve so it's pretty clear they have something to hide
>They put 30% tax on the entire pc gaming industry while providing nothing of a value in return.
>Forced developers to make their own game launcher dividing pc gaming.
>Constant lies about HF 3
>Completly ignoring communities of any of their game that is not dota 2
>Love to cater to chineese at every ocasion
>bans people for buying too many games withouth using shopping cart
>Invented pc exclusivity deals with darwina
There's more, but if this isn't enough to at least raise an eyebrow for you then i don't know what to tell you.
Sure, the day when you grow a pair, PC fatfuck
>developers
>make their own game launcher
Pick one. Only publishers can afford to make launchers.
>Ramps up industry-scale hacking immediately after world conferences
>Vacuums all information possible, in spite of the talent necessary to utilize it not existing in the mainland
Also
>Nobody bitched about launchers to anywhere near this extent until Epic
Hmm.... I wonder why that could be?
>Polish freedom launcher
Respected, but underused.
>American Windows Store
Mocked, pitied, underused.
>French uPlay
Makes toasters catch fire, nobody cares about Ass Creed 15.
>American Origin
It's already cool to hate EA, no additional work needed.
>Chinese Epic
OHMYGOD, STEAM HAS A MONOPOLY ON PC GAMIIIING!!!! LET US SCAN YOUR COMPUTER WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT AND ONLY EVER APOLOGIZE FOR SHADY SHIT AFTER WE'RE CAUUUUGHT!!!
And fuck you fucking Epic faggots for sabotaging EAC and Linux gaming by extension. You shills don't get shit on half as hard as you should be.
>And fuck you fucking Epic faggots for sabotaging Linux gaming.
0,75%.
I still to this day fucking hate the "steam monopoly" argument. The fact that Epic can make their own store and have enough voice to speak against the "monopoly" should be sign enough there isn't one.
ok bono
We only stopped your monopoly steamdrone by using chin... er Tim's money to brute force our way through your baricade
>Aggressively inserting Steamworks as a PC standard that prevent reselling games you purchased
Fixed your wording because it was giving me an aneurysm, ESL.
It's a large marketplace and one of many. Nobody is forcing someone to purchase your game from one storefront but you. People pay out the nose for limited-print runs of physical editions all. the. fucking. time.
You also CANNOT complain about the lack of physical releases and simultaneously bitch about the cut developers receive. Retail space was one of the biggest reasons they received such horrible fucking profit margins in the 90s and early 2000s.
>Forced developers to make their own game launcher, dividing PC gaming
You absolute fucking amoeba brain. "Developers" didn't unite and launch a competing storefront like a fucking co-op, the developer of the most important video game engine did it with the backing of the company that invented China's social credit system.
>Private companies are evil, public companies good. Where are the shareholders, Eggman?
Peak shill posting.
>Refuse to fix literally nothing issues that require a compromised computer in the first place
>Deflecting this hard from more than half a million Epic accounts being hacked TWICE.
Assuming you're a real person, the only thing you need to do to make yourself a hero is to never pass your clinically retarded genes on.
If you're a bugman, Tiananmen Square 1989.
Well, no one ever called valve pure monopoly. Yes, there is like 5 diffrent types of monopolies. You can consider valve as natural monopoly
sabotaging it isnt good,Esspecially when its starting to get pretty good at windows emulation.
>Sabotage = Stop wasting money in a minuscule market share.
Got it.
Because I don't want to bloat my PC full of crap
Steam Machines EXISTING was fucking invaluable, even if they experienced failure after failure. Gaben putting his "Fuck you" money to propping up Linux after waking up in cold sweats with worries over the Windows Store reinvigorating Microsoft's antitrust-laden history (see: internet browsers, office software) was the greatest service to PC gaming anyone's ever done.
If Steam Machines had one hundredth the success and mainstream chatter of VR, I would be fucking ELATED.
Fuck Windows, and fuck Microsoft. The Epic shills in this thread are bitching about one launcher out of fucking ten, when only two operating systems are viable as daily drivers (Windows and macOS).
>Fixed your wording because it was giving me an aneurysm, ESL.

Yeah, i fucked that copypasta. Nice strawman tho

If not for valve greedy cut there would be no reason for;uplay, bethesda, origin, rockstar, epic or any other storefront out there that is not blizznet and GoG.
>Private companies are evil, public companies good. Where are the shareholders, Eggman?
Both are private you absolute fucking moron

What can i say, dilate tranny?
Even without Steam Machines, Universal Windows Platform was going to die because it relied heavily on the abortion that was Windows Phone.
proton reports 80-90% o popular games on steam being compadable with linux,id hate for the epic game store to attempt to ruin it.
You know you can use proton on egs games right?
Percentage of compatibility is not market share.
>constant emails about attempts on epic account
>not a single one about attempts on steam account
>If it weren't for one successful digital storefront, others would never want to own their own distribution platform to curate and monetize as they please!
>Seriously, what could possibly be the appeal of owning a digital storefront? You only need one.
>All publishers are totally fine with this and would never want their own storefronts.

The epic game store doesnt have a native linux version to my knowledge.
And im talking potential here.
Launchers aren't bad. Launchers tied to DRM are bad. Which is why 4 out of 5 of the launchers in your image are poopoo. At the very least, Steam is so popular and prevalent that there are multiple options for emulators to easily break most DRM solutions from most games just using basic Steamworks.
Despite Newell's efforts for years, the share of Linux hasn't improved at all.
EGS is bad tho
>The epic game store doesnt have a native linux version to my knowledge.
Correct, you need lutris to launch it.
GOG Galaxy does verify you own the game for multiplayer purposes and locks most games into it, despite having games that offer online multiplayer just fine without Galaxy, like Stardew Valley and Jazz Jackrabbit 2.
More games need to include the server software with the game itself. Used to be common back in the day.
Well the game support has only just started to get good, before last year the compadibillity was less than 40%.
Without a launcher:
>click game icon
>loads for a sec
>game opens
>play
With a launcher:
>click on launcher
>loads
>sign in
>loads again
>launcher opens
>find game in library
>click on it
>game's page loads
>click play
>loads
>window comes up
>"preparing to launch game"
>window closes
>loads
>game opens
>loads
>play
Indeed. Rise of the Triad (2013) was the last game that did it AFAIK. But companies hate DRM-free multiplayer.
I found a pretty comrehensive list gog.com
We cannot go back user. The days of buying a game and not have to download day one patches or the full copy of the game are long gone. They all want that sweet sweet metadata
>Last update: July 9, 2019.
A bit outdated.
>Games that need Galaxy for online multi-player and check for unique store accounts before allowing MP
This list needs to be smaller.
more shit running in background or having to launch more shit to play game, gee I wonder why.
Steam is fine because it has biggest library,
Gog is fine because you can download directly from website and play with shitty launchers.
But others are fucking useless junk designed to lock you in their "ecosystem", not to mention security risks for associating your payments with many different providers.
Not to mention that all launchers lack features compared to steam, non-linux support, shady review practices, no-refunds. There is no need and never was need to introduce new competitors to steam after GOG and Itch.io. period. It's just publishers greed.
Battle.net predates Steam and GamersGate predates GOG.com and itch.io.
you can pause updates on origin and let other stuff go, you gotta open the download tab to see the list - the only ones you can't pause are updates to the origin launcher i believe
And thanks to Humble Bundle we had lots of DRM-free versions and Linux ports.
Old battle.net wasn't a launcher or a storefront. It was just Blizzard's online service.
Do not think goy. Consume products.
>thinks
KNOW*
they aren't and because pc consumers are so stubborn with
>muh steam level
>muh hats
>muh profile achievements
we're now getting exclusives on PC, if the only thing that will move a significant number of users is exclusives then that's what companies will have to use
Epic could allow DRM-free releases in their approved stores if the problem was just the social network of Steam.
Battle.net used to allow to download game from website, fair shit for me. I have no issue with web storefronts.
I've chosen gog and itch.io due to their uniqueness versus steam, not because of date. Orign/Upaly/Epic are just steam copies made worse.
they're not, competition is good
but they're definitely annoying from a consumer perspective
Tencent shills are at full force today
what do DRM-free releases have to do with luring in customers? customers don't give a shit about DRM-free purchases, if they did then GOG wouldn't be struggling and publishers/stores love DRM because it actually works in some cases, look at borderlands 3 and that's the most instrusive piece of shit you'll ever see
Consumers care, but publishers care too, that's why GOG is struggling. You can't sell what you can't have.
The windows store is the worst by far, even worse than EGS.
an incredible minority of consumers care, you're naive if you believe otherwise but lets say you're right, do you think DRM free games on GOG sell as much as games on steam? lets take it another step further, if a game is DRM free on GOG for $35 and $40 on steam, which platform do you think will get most sales? lets be honest we both know steam will decimate it
but let's go one step further, if you can buy a new AAA game for $50 on steam, or buy a cd key from a reputable store like green man gaming that you can redeem on steam for $40 giving you an identical platform experience, green man gaming will obviously sell significantly more right? well again, we both know that green man gaming will sell less than steam while offering the exact same platform because consumers are lazy (and there's those 5 people who genuinely care about an easier return policy)
95% of consumers are fucking lazy and literally won't switch for anything other than exclusives, this is why we have them
I have multiple launchers installed on my Windows partition. I don't care. I don't have them all starting up when I turn on my computer, because that would be retarded, so the ones I'm not actively using are really not affecting me at all. Uplay is there, despite Uplay being an absolute displeasure to use. GOG Galaxy 2.0 Beta is there, and it's pretty good. I haven't installed Epic's launcher yet, but I probably will, eventually, because I got some free games for it. And when I do install Epic's launcher, I'm sure it will be a disappointing experience which discourages me from spending actual money on their bare-bones platform that offers less value than almost any other service. But at least I'll be able to play Batman or whatever.
On my Linux partition, there's only Steam, because the other launchers don't have Linux versions. And I use Linux whenever I can, because using it is just more enjoyable than using shitty Windows. It was never my intention to start using one launcher exclusively, but only Valve is based enough to support Linux, so I guess that's happening now.
>customers don't give a shit about DRM-free purchases
So, why do they cockblock them?
what are you asking? cockblock them in what way?
Not allowing devs to offer a DRM-free version in Humble Store or GamersGate.
I hate to agree with the other guy, because I wish people cared more than they do, but I have doubts about more than 1% of gamers even knowing what GOG is. When I mentioned to my brother that GOG was giving away a free game, his response was, literally, "what's GOG? lol"
I don't intend to prove anything with a sample size of 1, but for what it's worth, I've also never heard anyone offline mention GOG at all. Not even once. Steam? Yeah, many times. GOG? Zero. For what it's worth, though: Epic? Also zero. But my point is just that normies don't even know GOG exists.
Their loss, though. GOG is great.
because while customers are unlikely to switch store based on less DRM, less DRM and DRM-free can have a significant impact on piracy rates, there's a reason when you look for game torrents every release (when possible) is "GOG Release", it trivializes piracy, again borderlands 3 is a good example of consumers being frustrated they can't pirate it and so many of them choose to buy it
PS4
>All PS4 games work on your PS4
Xbox One
>All Xbox One games work on your Xbox One
Original Switch
>All of your Switch games will work on you Switch
PC
>You Ubisoft games will not work on you Microsoft launcher. Your Steam games will not work on you GoG launcher.
You get why launchers are bull shit? If you have a device that plays games, then all games built for that device should work without needing a bunch of different launchers. you should need one per device and it should work universally for anything built for that device.
>you should had any on PC
Fix'd.
I'm not downloading 10+ different launchers so I can play shitty obscure games that no one cares about. I'm sticking with steam
If it's obscure, then it must be DRM-free in itch.io.
GOG games don't need a launcher. Get your info right.
Well...
>borderlands 3 is a good example of consumers being frustrated they can't pirate it and so many of them choose to buy it
You are delusional son. No GOG = no buy.
There is nothing wrong with a game launcher launching games.
There is everything wrong with a game launcher being required to launch a game.
and your a huge faggit if you support any of those developers. fuck ubi soft. fuck EA. fuck Epic. no one wants a game that requires an always on connection to play.
>The majority of them are fucking trash (especially the Epic Games Store and the Bethesda Games Launcher)
>Piece of shit companies like Epic are paying third-party publishers and developers to remove their games from other storefronts, even though Epic had no hand in development of the titles. That's some console-tier shit
>I'm not downloading a whole new launcher and trying to remember a whole new login for 2-3 games
That about covers it
You don't nee a launcher for the games you retard. You only do for multiplayer games that have developer controlled servers. So go and talk to the developer you disgusting piece of crippled shit. All games that have the option for LAN can be played with Hamachi. Also i hope you get cancer and die you imbecilic faggot. I hope your face rots you stinking pile of feces.
>You only do for multiplayer games that have developer controlled servers.
Wrong.
pcgamingwiki.com
You can use the developer-controlled servers in the DRM-free version.
It's just a pain in the ass to have to keep 5+ different launchers installed and updated. Most of the secondary launchers do not offer the same features as Steam. It's also nice to be able to see all of your digital games displayed in one place, which is why GOG Galaxy is cool
They're all turbo botnet and bloat, one is enough and the one I chose is steam.
