I have fonder memories of TM so that.

It wasn't supposed to be a documentary...

rogue trip just seemed like a game that had no idea how to make what it was doing any fun. none of the weapons were enjoyable to use.

maybe it needs a second chance

Interstate 76

>Kositch said both remasters have been incredibly well received by players and sales have been strong since both games launched, which reaffirms “the enduring nature of these franchises.” Due to the overwhelming success of the games, the studio is apparently set on bringing us more in future. "Stay tuned for future announcements on remasters of other franchises,” Kositch said.

Vigilante 8 is inevitable
Expect microtransactions up the ass

I liked the weapon limitation in V8, makes you decide what to keep and drop. I also liked how each weapon aside from specials had multiple flavors of attack.
But man, Twisted Metal is miles ahead in aesthetic and characters.

They should make them mobile MMOs to revive those games, Im not even kidding

>No V8 and TM crossover game ever.

Attached: LkgpGnX.jpg (300x240, 17K)

Carmageddon 2

Attached: 1557863426041.jpg (3264x2448, 2.55M)

V8 was remastered, came out on the X360 as Vigilante 8: Arcade

Its fucking abysmal, physics are terrible (pull a 180 handbrake as Sid Burn and you roll the car onto its roof).

V8 because i never had a Playstation

what killed car combat?

i had all 3 growing up. where the fuck are all the car combat games now?

Fell out of fashion.

Which would win a fight?
Round 1: Sweet Tooth vs Molo
Round 2: TM2 Roster vs 2nd Offense Roster

Also when they tried to reboot Twisted Metal it was a colossal clusterfuck where the online servers didn't even work when it launched. And TM 2012 was a great game as well

Halo came out the same year as TM Black
Console FPS became actually somewhat viable and overtook car combat

Halo and CoD. They became the de-facto MP games on the Xbox and then 360/PS3. Even more so when online MP started its ascendancy, the age of couch competitive died off there and then.

Sony had a chance with their PS3 reboot; could have made it like Smash Ultimate, feature characters and levels from all the previous games, could have even hand waved it as Minion pulling drivers from alternate dimensions or time periods to make the ultimate tournament. But they went with their god awful team based shit filled with generic nobodies because they dont like money or something....

the lack of characters put me off the reboot.

I still listen to the soundtrack daily.
TM4 and Head-On to be exact.
youtube.com/watch?v=hA4VOHOH8to

To be fair, It was originally only a smaller multiplayer only project that got extra budget to do a single player mode late in the development. They didn't want to do gangs for Single player (Only online) but the budget and timeframe meant they could only do four stories (And Preachers was cut from the game). Jaffe said if they ever got a sequel they would do the characters again but the game was a massive flop and it never happened.

Why not World Tour? That had some tasty and memorable tracks.
youtube.com/watch?v=JqV9UfcHddY
While I didn't hate TM3 or 4's soundtrack, I recall they loaded both with just about every Rob Zombie song that was available at the time.

Huh, never knew. You'd think the hype from the 2010 presentation would have convinced Sony to let the game get as much time as needed so they could pack in more content.

I just love every Track in TM4 and a few in Head-On. I really love how hard some of these in TM4 go. Like Chaos, A More Violent Approach and South Central. And "Time's Running Out" is amazing. It's like the track tells a story just by itself and it also sound like nothing I've heard before. Odd but a jammer. The TM4 track just get me pumped up like no other. I just love it so much. Also those 2 TM games are the only TM games I've played.

youtu.be/__e8nsN9rYc

How's Auto Age Stand off?

Shame the game itself was pretty meh. The 989 games just lacked the grit and wit that the second had.

Based and boomerpilled.

It's still my fav one. The memories with that game are something I love so much. Amazing shit.

Attached: 1555116887013.jpg (1024x640, 78K)

Gameplay wasn't all that bad, but the character endings were just so lacking. Only remotely interesting one was the one for Sweet Tooth and Calypso, and even then, their rivalry in the game doesn't have quite as much the impact as what Head-on would do with the two getting at each other's throats.

Twisted metal black.

Attached: choo choo motherfucker.webm (960x540, 1010K)

Yeah I've heard. I don't give a shit about the story though because I've never found it that interesting anyways.

Hey Stampede, how about a poem?

Attached: Groove.png (494x479, 23K)

Twisted metal.

But the story is part of the appeal for Twisted Metal series. Heck, it was the lack of story content for the 2012 reboot that led to it not getting that great of a reception.

Attached: honk honk motherfucker.webm (960x540, 2.96M)

As someone who doesn't play any sort of BR game, the TM franchise would be perfect for it.

The fuck you mean "like needles'. Marcus IS Needles. They're not fucking brothers or some shit, one is the psychotic alter ego of the other.

No, black is how "needles" kane sees the world, a dark grim and disturbing place. When marcus is asleep needles personality takes over in the black "dream" universe, but marcus can't wake up cause needles kane suffers from insomnia. Marcus has somehow manged to become conscious in the black universe or "dream" but has barely any control as needles is more dominant. Marcus needs to hide himself from needles cause if needles learns of his him he may try to purge him which will result in him having full control and awakening in the real world as himself.

It's a piss poor excuse.
They could just redo the same old by making you through different maps against different cars, then finally show you a 5 minute story.
I doubt the 5 minutes animation gonna costs them more than making different gameplay stages for the story mode.
The director/producer simply is not thinking straight and not up to their capabilities .

Wrong one.

I played some other on N64 or DC or some shit and I remember having fun but man I can not remember it's name.

The menu theme in tm3 is a remixed version of the LA theme interestingly enough.

Twisted Metal 2 was the perfect mix of Dark and Humor

I love twisted metal. Was one of my favorite games as a kid. That said Vigilante 8’s 70s aesthetic was superior.

I completely forgot about that game

Weirdly enough tm2012 seems to be a combination of both the black and tm2 universes.

They all came out around the same time...

Aesthetics are too different

RASCAL AH AH AHHHH DO IT AGAIN

What was so bad about the PS3 reboot? I played the demo and I remember kind of liking it but also not being impressed at the same time. I especially hated how you were either a clown or a dollface or whatever. The vehicles were always the characters, but it was way more interesting having unique drivers for them, even if it was just a jpeg on a character select screen in the classics.

MOLO, EVERY FUCKING DAY OF THE WEEK.

Vigilante 8 for more shit to do in general, at least for Second Offense and upgrading the vehicles.
Also all the little map hazards to mess with and weapon combos were neat. Twisted Metal 2 still has a special place for me though.

Sweet Tooth destroys Molo but V8 cars can generate earthquakes and call down lightning

Too greebly. Part of what makes TM's designs so neat is that the vehicle modifications are either subtle or blatant but not overly detailed. Chunky metal armor welded on, rebar in place of bumpers, etc., without too many extraneous little rivets, handles, latches, grates, and so on. Visual detail is given by the worn out condition of the cars themselves.

He'll turn it into The Purge the game.

I can appreciate Black lacking in most of the humor because despite being so laughably grimdark and edgy (as we'd call it today), it took itself completely seriously and so wholeheartedly that you can't help but like it. Plus it still has its kernels of joy.

>That cheat code that zoomed in on her butt.

I feel that both are different enough to make it hard to compare them

Vigilante 8 always felt a lot more "heavy" when it comes to the way vehicles handle, and when 2nd Offense added in the upgrading stuff it even had a small amount of progression to upgrade your favorite vehicle and I would say that only comparing the Ps1 titles, I would say that Vigilante 8's special weapons were more interesting than any of the Twisted Metal games

TM is obviously the more arcade of the two series, don't need to know combos for every single weapon, just the basic ones like freeze and such, and I would say overall just more enjoyable to just play

Reading this thread really makes me miss the car combat genre. I understand it was very much a product of its time though and should probably stay in said time.

tell me why aren't people trying to reboot the genre into a Battle Royale? you'd think shit like this will sell if it had something unique to offer

The end

Is this alpha different from the pack in with TM Head On?

TM was always a battle royal.

What's the difference between that and a limited-lives deathmatch?

lol wtf, what happened to the jap lady then? are they all living in their own respective timelines?

You die now

not in the scale of today's BR

Battle Royale is one life only.

very, boot it up and find out yourself. nothing in this build is present on the TM Head On 2nd disc.

RIP

Don't forget the UFO

V8 2nd offense will always be my GOAT
>giant ant that spawns in the desert map

He used a razor dildo
That, or he makes you too "clean" and your natural immunities are stripped and you die from having nothing to protect you.

A man of culture

>nothing in this build is present on the TM Head On 2nd disc.
how does that work, isn't the head on version just a more complete later build

Don't you remember? TM2 was one of the first 3D games to have battle damage. The more fucked up you were, the more beat up the character looked, so in Axel's case, he would be missing one of his arms. I think both could be missing at his most critical state.

This however is still great

caaaaalyyypso..........

where arrrrreeeee youuuuuu........

Was certainly odd how they fused in elements of Black, though I imagine that would have been explained in another sequel as Markus/Needles maybe becoming a new entity as they do in the Tower Tooth ending.

what you got with head on appear to be smaller chunks of more fleshed out envs. this build features the mall, the airport, the seaport? and some other shit. if you've ever done any research into harbor city, you'll recognize this stuff immediately

Car Combat games peaked with Twisted Metal 3

But you had multiple "lives" in the TM games

Trying to boot up harbor city but it refuses to load.

Vigilante 8 is just a fucking shitty version of Interstate 76

The improved rebuilt ISO (Twisted_Metal-Harbor_City-Prototype-Rebuilt-63-Patched.iso) will boot in PCSX2, a PS3 DEX, or a PS2 Test. The prototype behaves the same way in all three: the menus are functional, but attempting to start the game in MOST ways will cause the prototype to lock up. However, by using the "Dev Console" to select split-screen mode, most of the maps built into the prototype can be explored: Docks, Ghetto, Goth, Railyard, and SCenter. Selecting the Airport map will cause the game to lock up.

read the instructions

But it didn't do anything that different from TM2 beyond dumbing down the cast and having those awful looking CGI cutscenes.

I got it to work.

Exploring the game in splitscreen is a pain my ass but it's better than nothing. Also you can't quit to the main menu for some reason.

>shopping mall in a gigantic gothic cathedral
Jesus Christ that's fucking awesome.

Vigilante 8

There's more but I have to restart the game.

Could be worse I suppose.

A man of taste. I spent hundreds of hours playing Cel Damage with my brother and friends

interstate 76
and to a lesser extent,
interstate 82

My brothers and I played the shit out of Vigilante 8. It was one of our favorite games. It's good to know that the game hasn't been forgotten. I've only seen it mentioned once or twice before on Yea Forums and I had gotten the impression that it was more obscure than it apparently is.

I never played Twisted Metal much, so I can't really give a fair comparison, but holy shit, Vigilante 8 was good. I bought the Nintendo 64 version even though my brother already owned the PlayStation version and let me play it sometimes. I wanted my own copy.

What disappoints me is that neither version was really definitive. The Playstation version had cutscenes while the Nintendo 64 version did not; if I remember correctly, it replaced them with comic-book-style slideshows. Meanwhile, the Nintendo 64 version had better graphics, had 4-player mode, and had extra maps. Did any console version have the best of both?

I wish they would release a PC port. But maybe they will and it will be garbage. I should avoid making monkey paw wishes like that.

>I should avoid making monkey paw wishes like that.
See, you would have already known this if you'd played more Twisted Metal.

Depends on how they port the game. In the absolute worse case, they screw up the programming and there's tons of missing files that not even fan patches can fix. Or, they just fuck it up somewhat and fan patches ultimately make it stable and viable. Now, if they were to just remake it from scratch, that's a whole other can of worms

I played TM 1, 2, and 3 a lot growing up.
The only time I played V8 was the shitty GBA port, so I always thought that's what it was (when I was younger.)
So for me, TM for sure.

Does any have the virgin Minion vs Chad Warhawk pasta, I need a laugh.

Nice

I agree, not only that but it was missing so much content compared to the 1st game. The music wasnt too bad

>the virgin minion
>fights in a stadium alone cause he has no friends
>drives a shitty old truck with a flamethrower cause he can't afford anything better
>wears a shitty mask made out of a dead animal that probably smells like shit cause he's afraid of sweet tooth
>is actually sweet tooth's alternate personality
>has a shitty shield that can easily be taken out
>only a mid boss
vs
>the chad warhawk
>fights on a rooftop cause he fears nothing
>pilots a state of the art attack helicopter with a badass shark mouth paintjob
>wears a cool helmet that matches his chopper
>has his bro TANKER support him
>shield can only be taken out by destroying TANKER
>is friends with outlaw but will still kill him if it means putting an end to calypso and the contest
>is the final boss of the game

Attached: warhawk pilot 2.png (640x368, 389K)

...

wait why trash?

I tired to find the character art for this game that wasn't all pixelated the other day. didn't go to well.

Probably not a fan of the virgin/chad meme

then

This thread has been pretty comfy.

It's just a harmless meme, you dork.

Agreed
