>World is actually worse than Land, so no
How do we save 3D Mario
imagine having taste this bad
A Galaxy game with Odyssey's movement would be the perfect Mario game for me. Odyssey had a lot of soul and great variety and scope, but it lacked the level design and the good balanced focus on platforming Galaxy had. Almost every enemy in Odyssey was nothing more than a tool than an obstacle. The game got too carried away with having captures be the solution to most things, and the focus on exploration hurts the replyability because you know everything already. Odyssey's fun movement was its greatest strength to me.
whoever thought it was a good idea to make Mario 64 with only a fucking D Pad should be fired
The fact that you can beat the main parts of the game without doing a regular jump and using your hat for jumps is telling. There needed to be more demanding platforming.
Ocarina of Time should have been remade on the Switch not on the 3DS which isn't even as good as the gamecube in most areas.
I definitely wouldn't say its worse in terms of content, but you can the level design was butchered for the sake of 4 player co-op. 3D Land had tighter and more refined level design. I honestly never found co-op in a platformer fun even with friends, I hate that shit. At least the new DKC games focused on the single player experience with the co-op not being ideal.
>Split the series into two gameplay styles, keep them both updated at regular intervals. Don't leave several years of drought between Mario games.
>Do actual DLC packs that contain an decent amount of worlds/levels with an bite sized story, to prolong the game's relevancy.
>Linear series that follow the 2D series' formula with new twists to it's visual design instead of the gameplay. Don't introduce new powerups unless if it's relevant to the story. Use the older powerups instead.
>Levels that match exactly to the world's theme.
>Levels that are long and features branching paths to make it varied.
>Focuses more on difficult and challenging levels
>Varied world themes that are never the same from the last games.
>Focus on playing other characters, and have different routes for different characters.
>SM64 style series that are more centred around the story and exploring the levels themselves, more than completing them quick as possible.
>Themes that focus on Mario's journey in a central theme.
>Keep the environments matched in an believable and natural way. E.g. Mario travelling through the docks and finds himself travelling in middle of an cargo bay with natural sense of flow. Never make Mario travel through the docks, and then finding himself in middle of an deserted island through an pipe.
>Proper postgame content, instead of cloned worlds with copypasted content.
64 but with like, quintuple the levels and a colossal hub world.
