How do we save 3D Mario
How do we save 3D Mario
Super Mario

Make them harder.
By making a Sunshine 2
it doesn't need saving
no ,super mario 128
Better level design. SMO never really forces you to use any of the advanced platforming mechanics, and chooses instead to build the entire game around the mind control gimmick. That's fine and all, but it feels a little bit one-note and shallow once the initial novelty of "wow I can be a t-rex" wears off.
Compare this with the space theme of galaxy, which lets them build spherical platforming segments, use gravity fuckery, and generally shake up the core level design canon of 3D Mario. SMO doesn't really have anything like this.
the Nintendo Revolution
More detailed environments and world maps that match the level you're going to enter. Odyssey had a good concept with making the sandboxes like hubs for linear platforming challenges but they should've taken it a step further and made the entrances reflect the theme of the level as well
>step into a doorway in a random apartment building in New Donk
>suddenly in a non-descript alleyway
>enter a different building
>suddenly in the clouds even though the building you entered can be scaled from the outside easily
meanwhile the DKC games always have little previews of what the level's theme will be like on the world map and do a way better job at making the worlds they create feel believable
>Super Mario 64
>Super Mario Sunshine
>Super Mario 3d Land
Mix those 3 with modern graphics and BOOM! perfect game
parallel universes
Sunshine honestly was not that amazing. It wasn't bad by any stretch. But it still wasn't as good as 64 or Galaxy 1 and 2. I'd say it's around as good as Odyssey
desu I find Oddisey better than the Galaxy games.
I dont think those are that good...
Don't touch it
Galaxy didn't even have advanced movement techniques to take advantage of, it was all basic and with no momentum.
That's understandable, I think what I liked in Galaxy was that they were a bit more linear. Whereas Odyssey and Sunshine were a lot more open world. Odyssey did have really good post-game levels though
3D Mario doesn't need saving
2D Mario does
This, really. Odyssey alreayd has perfect controls, it only needs tougher level design to make good use of every movement mechanic.
I dunno maybe some dumb gimmick where you can possess enemies and possibly a hat jump that's strong enough to trivialise half the jumping puzzles in the game.
That sound good?
Oh I've got it, a fucking shit load of collectibles that you just trip over and find everywhere.
Yeah that sounds like it'll do the trick.
Just have some fancy 8-bit throwback with a cool song halfway through and a journalist mode where you can't die and the press will eat it up.
Place the device on the ground, and lie on your stomach with your arms at your side. A temporal associate will be dispatched to extract you, and return you to your own timeline.
Mixing 64 and 3D land would be sick, a hub with different worlds/levels each one is a single challenge.
64 should've been remade on the 3ds instead of the ds like ocarina
mario 64 sequal with these gfx
I'd rank them like this
Odyssey>Galaxies>64=3DWorld>3DLand>Sunshine
Sunshine is still a good game overall but it's the weakest of the bunch.
>Galaxy didn't even have advanced movement techniques
Galaxy didn't need to have advanced movement techniques because the gravity gimmick was so good the levels made all the heavy lifting design-wise.
do what they did with 3D Land but this time put some actual effort into it
so 3d world?
Just make a direct sequel to Odyssey like with Galaxy 2 or BoTW 2.
Odyssey has great movement mechanics but the levels aren't really built around it.
If we had level designed focus more on what Mario can do in Odyssey and less about Cappy and the enemy types, we'd have a much more interesting game overall. That's all I want out of the next 3D Mario.
World is actually worse than Land, so no
>World is actually worse than Land, so no
imagine having taste this bad
A Galaxy game with Odyssey's movement would be the perfect Mario game for me. Odyssey had a lot of soul and great variety and scope, but it lacked the level design and the good balanced focus on platforming Galaxy had. Almost every enemy in Odyssey was nothing more than a tool than an obstacle. The game got too carried away with having captures be the solution to most things, and the focus on exploration hurts the replyability because you know everything already. Odyssey's fun movement was its greatest strength to me.
whoever thought it was a good idea to make Mario 64 with only a fucking D Pad should be fired
The fact that you can beat the main parts of the game without doing a regular jump and using your hat for jumps is telling. There needed to be more demanding platforming.
Ocarina of Time should have been remade on the Switch not on the 3DS which isn't even as good as the gamecube in most areas.
I definitely wouldn't say its worse in terms of content, but you can the level design was butchered for the sake of 4 player co-op. 3D Land had tighter and more refined level design. I honestly never found co-op in a platformer fun even with friends, I hate that shit. At least the new DKC games focused on the single player experience with the co-op not being ideal.
>Split the series into two gameplay styles, keep them both updated at regular intervals. Don't leave several years of drought between Mario games.
>Do actual DLC packs that contain an decent amount of worlds/levels with an bite sized story, to prolong the game's relevancy.
>Linear series that follow the 2D series' formula with new twists to it's visual design instead of the gameplay. Don't introduce new powerups unless if it's relevant to the story. Use the older powerups instead.
>Levels that match exactly to the world's theme.
>Levels that are long and features branching paths to make it varied.
>Focuses more on difficult and challenging levels
>Varied world themes that are never the same from the last games.
>Focus on playing other characters, and have different routes for different characters.
>SM64 style series that are more centred around the story and exploring the levels themselves, more than completing them quick as possible.
>Themes that focus on Mario's journey in a central theme.
>Keep the environments matched in an believable and natural way. E.g. Mario travelling through the docks and finds himself travelling in middle of an cargo bay with natural sense of flow. Never make Mario travel through the docks, and then finding himself in middle of an deserted island through an pipe.
>Proper postgame content, instead of cloned worlds with copypasted content.
64 but with like, quintuple the levels and a colossal hub world.
