why are you buying that cpu
MY EVGA GPU fucking caught on fire. I clean my PC out regularly, so fuck knows what caused it. It wasn't even while running but when I tried to boot it up after a random shutdown. No blue screen. No nothing. Just fucking sparks. What the fuck...
Because I don't know what a good cpu is, all I know is that if its pricey its better quality. right?
I'd switch the 250GB SSD with a 1-2TB HDD. You can put your C drive on the 500GB SSD along with a lot of other stuff; why do you need 2 SSDs? Also, your motherboard has 2 M.2 slots, so you're better off getting an M.2 SSD like the 970 Evo.
Not necessarily, no. CPUs on the low end of the spectrum have lower clock speeds and less cores, and CPUs on the higher end of the spectrum have higher clock speeds and higher cores. Look up CPU benchmarks, and more importantly think about the kinds of things you're going to be using your PC for. Think of the most demanding game you'll want to play, and look up what the CPU requirement for that game is. Then get a CPU that's just a little bit better than that. That's all you need; you can save a lot of money.
Also, your CPU cooler comes with thermal paste. You don't need to get extra thermal paste, and the one that comes with your cooler is probably the best one to use since it was specifically designed to be used with that cooler.
Emulation generally requires beefier CPUs, right?

should I upgrade my i7 4790k?
Currently in the middle of getting parts for a new build. Got me a Vega 56, gonna buy a Ryzen 3600 in a few days along with some other bits I don't have yet and get her built. Cannot wait to actually play DMC5 at a decent resolution with settings not on low.
Gonna give my current one to my mother, hers is getting on a bit so getting mine should be a decent little upgrade for her.
One of these days I'll get a new GPU. Having a GTX 960 and an overclocked i7-6700k feels a little silly
Yes, you want a good CPU for emulation. Something that clocks at 3.5GHz or higher if you're emulating Wii U stuff or PS2 stuff in 4K. You have a fuckload of RAM, so that helps.
Bought a 970 5 years ago.
It still runs nearly all games on high settings 60-75fps at 1080p.
Never realy felt the need to upgrade to 4k.
Playing Forza Horizon 4 Enemy zero and Atelier Firis as SP games.
And SFV and Tekken 7 and Monhun world from time to time in MP.
Forgot to ask as well, the Ryzens don't come with thermal paste do they? I don't think my cooler did and I don't want to be ready and waiting to build the thing and realise I don't have any mayonnaise to apply.
Also any recommendations for headphones that don't break the bank? I'm currently using a pair of cheap Sony ones I bought off amazon when my old headset died and only bought because they were cheap and pink
>Be IT
>Build PCs all day long for people/businesses
>This includes gaymers
Lets see what we got here.
>Intel Core i9-9900k as if someone would ever come close to using that much cpu power in any game.
>very expensive cpu cooler. does not need to be that pricey
>MSI motherboards break literally all the time. Take heed. ASUS rarely breaks. MSI always break. Been doing this for years and I don't know why, I just know it is.
>Replace SSD with m.2 SATA SSD. Costs no different and m.2 SATA is 3 times faster
>Replace secondary 500gb SSD with a 2tb HDD, costs the same, more storage
>MSI Geforce video card, shit breaks, catches fire often. Get EVGA. Rarely goes bad.
>Gold power supply. Nice.
>Mcaffee antivirus. throw this in the garbage. You couldn't pay me to install that shit on my PC.
Everything else looks aight.
I haven't been this excited for black friday in years. based AMD making it so that I don't have to go from Ryzen 1st gen to Ryzen 3rd gen while upgrading my mobo.
might pick up one of those nvme assuming the prices come down
I just want a cpu that can run games likes nu doom at 60 fps 1080 no problem or have multiple mods in fonv and have no lag
Thank you
Overclocked?
My advice? Scrap it and wait until the new RTX 3000 line comes out early next year. Also new Intel. You'll be kicking yourself next spring, trust me.
>CPU
what kind of cpu is ideal for someone who plays games often but doesn't do it as a living or an esport?
Not him, but thank you. I know it's still fairly early, but do you think Yuzu is gonna have much higher reqs than WiiU emulation?
New Doom's recommended CPU clocks out at 3.4 GHz base. Something at 3.5 should be perfect for that and Fallout mods.
2600x or 3600
I sold my gaming pc so now I only have a thinkpad. Need recommendations for slow paced retro games.
In playing a lot of Civ V.
literally any ryzen desktop chip
I don't think so; the Switch itself is very technically limited, and Yuzu's already making ridiculous strides in its development. Then again, I don't personally emulate anything past the PS3 so I can't say for sure.
If you can do GBA emulation, try out the Super Robot Wars games. J, OG and OG2 are all in English and good fun
The Fire Emblem games on GBA are pretty good if you can emulate them. Actually, the GBA had a lot of solid RPGs and tactical games.
Yeah GBA emulation is a good idea, thanks anons.
I bought a 500GB SSD and doubled my RAM to 32GB the other day because both were on sale. At this point the only major upgrade left would be my GPU but I have a 1060 6GB and none of the games I play are that intense so I'm in no rush to replace it.
Anons ITT who are new to PC gaming, please look into ensuring your mouse is setup properly. So many people have shitty mice with the wrong settings and wrong sensitivity/DPI, so bad that their aim is practically console-tier and they don't notice when a game has bad mouse input, insisting it's "fine" to everyone else who noticed.
tl;dr you want your Windows sensitivity at 6/11 (in the middle) with no smoothing or "pointer precision" and your DPI anywhere between 400 and 800.
Enjoy playing vidya with a keyboard and mouse.
How's your monitor? Do you have more than 1? What's your CPU like? Are you in an area where power surges/spikes/blackouts are likely? Getting a UPS is never a bad idea.
>Chad
Cringe, toxic language
damn what are you doing with all that RAM?
Nope.
Running botw at 15 FPS
Im playing bondage online game.
Rzyen 7 1700

I'm playing Demon's Souls through RPCS3 and having lot ot fun !
RAM tip for new PC builders: a lot of people forget to make sure their RAM is running at the right bandwidth. Whenever you put new RAM in a PC, you should download CPU-Z, go to the ‘SPD’ tab, and check the max bandwidth to make sure your RAM is operating at whatever MHz it's advertised to operate at. If it's lower, you have to enable XMP profile 1 in the BIOS/UEFI. Otherwise your RAM isn't as fast as it's supposed to be.
Two monitors, they're okay but nothing amazing.
CPU's a 8600k, bought it like two weeks before the 9 series got announced
No, but I should buy a power strip with a surge protector anyway just in case.
I dunno, it was 60 bucks for 16GB and the motherboard's a Z370, by the time I would consider upgrading to faster speed RAM I'd probably be considering building an entirely new machine anyway
kek
went back to the drawing board. problem is that I don't have a wired or wireless adapter nor an antivirus software. so im skeptical if its worse than before
pcpartpicker.com
can I just say that 2TB you have in there is a fucking meme. I bought that shit on Prime Day and it's barely faster than a regular HDD.
>intel and novidia after their destruction in 2019
Shit advice.
Hybrids in general are a meme. Any kind of industry.
I've always just used Windows Defender. It comes with Windows, it's free, and I've never had any problems with viruses. As long as you don't click on suspicious links and utilize common sense you should be fine. Also, your motherboard comes with Wi-Fi.
That's the point you retard. They will have to step up their game you shithead.
This, I didn't realize my RAM was running at 2133MHz for like six months and felt like an idiot when I had to go into BIOS and set it to 3000
this is a great pro-tip. if it weren't for newegg reviews I would have never realized this either
>Nvidia destroyed
Not really, AMD is competitive with them but still not on the high end, like always.
The enlightened move is to buy high end every other generation. You'll get great performance and decent resale even after that time. 1080ti is still a great gpu
The difference between 2133mhz and 3000mhz is like the difference between 2133mph and 3000mph. They're both ridiculously fast and the difference is completely inconsequential
No one ever mentions it. I didn't know about it myself until I randomly stumbled into some PC Master Race Reddit thread.
Built my desktop maybe 5 years ago, and it chugs a bit when playing Monster Hunter World.
Now that I have a job that lets me have disposable income I think I'll start building a new PC sometime next year. Been so out of the loop with computer parts that I feel like I have to start all over learning what everything is, so this thread is helping a bit.
I considered just upgrading my current PC but I figure if I'm going to have to buy a new motherboard I might as well go for an entirely new build. VR is something I would like to get into soon too
but the faster one still gets you there first.
They're both waiting at the same stop lights. One just waits slightly longer.
If you paid for RAM that was advertised to operate at 3000 MHz, why would you not want it to operate at 3000 MHz? It's as simple as going to the BIOS in boot and changing one setting. There's literally no reason not to do it.
Yeah I wasn't arguing against doing it, it's just not really worth bothering about. Going to the BIOS is a pretty big ask for your average mong who thinks editing an .ini is "hacking the game files" and doesn't understand the folder structures behind his game launchers.
Malwarebytes is one of if not the best anti-virus, and its free. Alternatively, just use the built in Windows anti-virus.
Like I said earlier, wait for RTX 3000 and next gen intel CPUs. They're 4-5 months away, in my guestimation. Maybe a bit longer. The performance difference versus current stuff will be drastic. You'll kick yourself.
>Intel
>After this year
Nobody in their right mind is buying intel
>Mini ITX Mother board
>ATX case
My friend, please keep posting till we approve of it because this looks like a disaster.
I recommend a Ryzen 3700(x) cpu. I recommend you get a WD black instead of the firecuda. If you are fine with it, drop the keyboard because that thing is hot garbage. Look up actual mechanical keyboards before you buy this shit. If you are fine with a normal keyboard, then buy a standard dell one.
The mouse is also "Gamer^tm" tier, I recommend a Zowie FK or G403 instead. But if you insist on the G502 due to experience or something else then that's fine too.
Any good builds for around $700?
That cooler's a joke. It's barely better than Ryzen's stock cooler. Either get a substantial upgrade like a push/pull cooler or an AIO or just stay with stock.
Also your mobo is way too overpriced. Just get a B450 board, Ryzens support overclocking on all boards. Unless you're doing really extreme shit like 5Ghz OCs you don't need the beefier VRMs.
Also why do you need that 10TB external drive if you have a 2TB 3.5'' one already? And what are you even doing with double 144Hz monitors? If you want the maximum FOV while still having a mathematically accurate viewing angle just go for VR.
I'm going to start to save some money so I can buy a RTX 3000-line card next year or the year after. But then my monitors are going to need an upgrade soon, I've one good 1080/60hz and another 1680x1050 that's probably 10 years old now, and then my MX518 will probably die soon, keyboard is also old as fuck and some no name generic budget brand. Fuck, I need to find a job.
>any recommendations for headphones that don't break the bank?
How much are we talking about here? Do you also need it to function as a headset?
If headset then Hypercloud X 2
If not headset Sennheiser HD598 or HD6xx from groupbuys/amazon sales.
I chose a small motherboard because nothing else was compatible
>Paying money for Windows 10
>Installing the fucking consumer versions of Windows 10
enjoy your forced updates and shit constantly breaking and your PC installing candy crush disney magic kingdoms every time you boot
AMD is a meme. Intel is overpriced, but their CPUs are still the best.
New arch is going to blow AMD out of the water. Keep dreaming, red boy.
Thanks user, those Hyper X ones look pretty comfy
wish I could find those sick white and pick ones in stock somewhere
>need a new GPU
>only decent options are 5700XT and 2070S
>$500 mid-range GPUs
fug
>Hypercloud X2
These plug into a USB slot? I broke my headphone jack years ago so that's the only type of headphone I can use
Should I be worried if parts aren't compatible?
Thoughts on taking a gaming PC to college?
I've already visited the place and it doesn't look like the kind of setting where you've gotta lock up important stuff.
But, is it weird to be taking one? Is it going to be a distraction? Do people do it all the time or am I gonna be singled out as a weirdo?
Help me, Yea Forums! I only have a couple weeks and I don't know if I should sell it or not!
My mates all took theirs to uni
Got pissed most every night and played DOTA and shit
Seemed like they're having good fun
I recommend the Hyper X Cloud 2 (yes, the 2 is important) here since it has drivers (shit that produces sound) from a mid range enthusiast tier headphones. The Takstar Pro 80's. Which sound really good for the
Bring it definitely
Is ryzen 5 3600+ rx 5700 any good? Planning to upgrade my potato.
At this point I really recommend you going over to /g/ and ask them. Or in general some other pc building forum. Or taking a look at a build from other people on pc partpicker.
Also a good guideline is here:

I really think that you should do some more research before spending $2k+ on a gaming pc.
Talk me out of buying the second Xpac for Civ6
Buying 5 m73 tinys off ebay to learn how to into beowulf clustering. Then breaking them apart to turn into kodi boxes.
Just buy it. You were dumb enough to get civ 6 anyways.
based
Thanks user, you're a good lad
Yeah dude, just buy this 100$ more expensive cpu that has a 5 fps advantage. Meanwhile in workloads get btfo'd.
>not waiting for RTX 30xx next year
fag
i7-9700k is in the mail, have 32 gigs of ram on the way too. Looking forward to finally upgrading everything else. Already have a 1080ti
I took mine and it worked out well since I was able to run the CAD software I was using for my classes. If you have self control issues, maybe you shouldn't take it. I still recommend a laptop, even if its just a cheap little thing. Being able to type out reports and have digital copies of your books everywhere is nice.
playing stalker soc, first playthrough
did the quest where you go to that lab and shoot at dust and then unlock a memory about shooting rats, not bad
i'm also emulating random stuff but i'm trying to keep that to a minimum and focus on my steam backlog
aaaaaaa everyone who disagrees with me is a jew aaaaaaaaaa
go fuck yourself, kike.
>actually has 15-20 more fps
AMD cope fags are the funniest
>Ryzen 5 3600
Yes. Very good.
>RX 5700
Performance is great, drivers are so utterly broken they've broken AMD's previous levels of utterly broken drivers. They're on the levels of Nvidia Linux drivers in terms of how bad they are.
So either get a different GPU or wait around 6-8 months for AMD to fix their shit.
I need more VRAM...
