Console limitations used to encourage game devs to push everything to the console”s limits, nowadays limits are basically nonexistent in most cases so devs aren’t as creative. Also larger teams, open worlds, and “cinematic experiences” happened

The endless push for better graphics killed it. Dev teams grew in size to accommodate that. 300 people worked on FFXV. Imagine instead it were 10 groups of 30 devs working on different projects.
Banking on graphics isn't worth it, it was fine in the ps1-2 area, but as soon as you go HD the manpower needed catches up with you
