What's the best controller for PC gaymen, Yea Forums?

My Xbox 360 is pretty worn and the left stick is starting to do its own thing: not a lot, but enough to make HESSing impossible to learn.

Pic related is currently my top pick.

I mostly game on Linux btw.

I bought a ps54 controller for PC gaming and it sucks. Most PC games natively take an xbox controller and their buttons promps are usually all xbox. I like how the ps4 controller feels but honestly xbox just because it's more native.

PS4 controller works perfectly for me
I don't know the setup for linux but you need to install secondary drivers on windows

Shit dude I meant to say ps4 controller idk how I fat fingered 54 sorry.

DS4 is the perfect pick. It has an excellent driver, DS4Windows, and it feels perfect in the hand.

DS4Windows makes the DS4 appear as an XB controller. And, in case you haven't noticed, the layout is literally the same between the two.

Honestly, you just can't beat Xbox 360/One controllers.

My second choice would be an Xbox One controller.

How are the Linux drivers?

steam controller since you can use it to play actual pc games from your couch instead of shitty console ports

Just get a ds4. Xbox controller feels clunky as fuck. For the button prompts, most of the time there’s a mod that replaces Xbox buttons with ds4 button prompt so you don’t have to worry about that.

having the touchpad to browse the steam library instead of having to pick up a mouse or keyboard is pretty neat.

all DS4s have bluetooth built in
so that is a safe purchase
you have to check model numbers if you want an xbox one controller with bluetooth, since they didn't use it at first for a few years

Depends on the type of game, but I'd say the Steam controller overall. There are some games where having 2 analog sticks feels better but if I had to pick only a single controller to use it would definitely be that one. Beyond that I'd suggest to just get a regular Xbone controller, or a PS4 controller if you prefer its shape.

That $150 xbox controller with the under paddles probably

There are like different versions though. Do I go for the V2 with adapter?

The steam controller is interesting. If I get used to it, will it at least match the accuracy of something like an Xbox controller?

I've always really liked the ergonomics of PlayStation controllers.

DS3/4 are plug n' play with linux which is an absolute godsend. Sucked having to use sommething else on PC when I had windows.

did I accidentally make this post while deliriously hallucinating, because this situation is eerily the same to the one I'm dealing with atm
someone tell me I haven't lost it entirely

Overall, Nacon Revolutions. Only buy it if you find it at a good price, though.

DS4Windows is the be-all-end-all of controller drivers. You can do just about fucking anything with it. Puts Microsoft's first party compatibility to shame.

I have my DS4 set up with different controller profiles for every era of PC gaming and it works flawlessly with every game without having shitty compromises like Xbox controllers.

Never heard of it. How does it compare to other controllers?

>Linux
Oh. I forgot you wanted to use it under the meme os, I have literally no idea about how linux controller apis work. On windows, it's a native direct input device, which can be translated into xinput by ds4windows if so desired.

I personally prefer the Xbox 360 (wired) controller.
Most games automatically detect it and I prefer the left joystick/d-pad placement over the PS controller. I prefer the XBox 360 triggers as well over PS controller.
Plus they are fairly cheap, $20 when I got mine (new.) Not sure about modern day prices though.

Checked.

Forgot to mention that wired controllers are completely out of the question.

The xb360 dpad is a fucking atrocity.

Then maybe PS is better to go since they are bluetooth. I know wireless 360 controllers require you to buy the transmitter that you plug into USB to connect it.
I'm not sure about Xbone controllers though. I've never used one so I can't speak to their wireless capabilities nor their quality.
I have PS4 controllers as well and they are fairly easy to set up assuming you have bluetooth reception built in (or an adapter) on your PC.
You could go with dedicated PC gamepads that aren't compatible with consoles. But I am not knowledgeable on those. I'm sure there are some good ones though if you can find the right ones.

Yeah but I rarely use it.
What I meant to say I prefer the locations of them. I don't like the side-by-side analogs on PS controllers. I like the left analog placement on Xbox controllers over the PS layout.

I know, I just wanted to point it out because if someone's interested in platformers or emulation specifically, then the 360 controller is a very bad choice. I find it really comfortable to hold, and the stick placement is much better for 3D games. If I didn't use the dpad, I'd get that controller too.

>will it at least match the accuracy of something like an Xbox controller?
depends on the game but i have not had much success on games that are designed with control sucks in mind or with third person games.

Alright. Guess I'll go with the DS4 then. Thanks, Yea Forums.

PS4 controller with DS4Windows is the best all-around controller because it completely eliminates the need for keyboard + mouse in a majority of games.

Some games have a desktop menu of sorts on startup that require you to navigate with the mouse, so you can use the PS4's touchpad as a mouse in those instances, which is awesome. You can also program the PS4 gyroscope for mouse movement in FPS games, similar to Splatoon, which makes controller aiming much more accurate. It's pretty awesome.

Do you look at the buttons on your controller before pressing them? baka

>I mostly game on linux

So you don't actually play video games?

Xbox Afterglows. Your thumb doesn't keep hitting the left waggle stick while inputting onto the controller pad like it does with the PS controllers. And the Afterglows have a way better controller pad than regular on-brand XBox controllers, allowing you to smash fluidly through fighting game inputs with ease. Afterglows just feel great to use with every game I've ever played with them.
