left, because it looks like a real dog that is fucked up. The other thing looks too alien and weird, it's not scary.

left one fore sure

Left is soul, right is soulless (this is NOT a meme).
Right looks like your typical zoom zoom baby simplified horror that wouldn't scare a 2 year old
Left looks like it could actually be in your fucking nightmares

Left.

On the same note. In SH4, The Twin Victims are fucking terrifying. Probably the scariest monster in the series. In the game is also a more powerful version of them near the end of the game, but they're not near as scary due to them not even looking human.

left looks like a real boiled dog im chinese btw

right looks like a edgy and cool thing you put into animes

both good designs but both give a different type of horror
left gives off an unsettling disease ridden dog great for a straight forward horror game
the right is great for a horror game like Doom

>generic zombie dog vs creature boiled in the cooking pots of hell

>good design vs edgy trash for 12 year olds

Right tries too hard to be cool that its not really scary.

This

Depends entirely on the setting/atmosphere they're going for.

>Doom
>horror game

Doom is an action FPS, no horror about it. Unless you're unironically talking about doom 3 which wasn't scary at all and relied mostly on monster closets

I think you should stop posting twitter posts and pretending its content.

Left is good if you want zombies.
Right is good if you want aliens.
Both are good for different reasons.

Thumbnail actually makes it look like some kind of fucked up fusion of the two, which would actually be a cooler design than either one on its own.

Attached: 1465953040841.jpg (374x421, 38K)

Cringe and ESLpilled

oh I loved catdog

Right doesn't even look like a Silent Hill design, it looks like a sub-par Resident Evil design that's trying to fuse the infected dogs with a Licker

Left belongs in a horror game
Right belongs in an action game about demons. Something like Doom or Devil May Cry.

>Japan good
>Western bad

I actually unironically believe this though.

those buzzwords are only used by pseudo intellectuals and libart degree soibois

Your post manages to have more buzzwords than the OP image.

It's just a fucking dog.

right is trying too hard, literally a dog without skin with a bony skull
left is good but lacking, it's mostly just a gross dog

kek, how's that black history degree, user? Are you wining?

We already had this thread yesterday

what's that?

Attached: dog.png (560x311, 23K)

Left looks like a fucked up zombie dog.
Right just looks like a demon. Something you'd see in DOOM.

>america makes something
>it's "western"
>japan makes something
>it isn't "eastern"

...yes?
That's correct?

Silent Hill vs Resident Evil

I don't know which one is western or Jap but left is better, and right just looks like an overdesigned edgy alien thing.

Here's the fun part: It's actually reversed. West made left and Nips made right

Left looks unironically scarier

Americans forget that Europe exists, they only remember Japan exists because they nuked it

It's a crab with deer legs

/pol/tards just love to make themselves known

>Right is good if you want aliens.

Both are from different Silent Hill games, Rightey is a skinned dog, not an alien.

Ito has spoken:
>To be honest, you should like whichever you like best

He fucking hates that they made Pyramid Head buff in Homecoming, though

Well the dog is from Silent Hill 1 so you're wrong there but it's true that the thing on right looks like it could be from The Evil Within or Resident Evil 6 or some trash

Why would I want to study negro history?

Left

The fun part is that you're wrong?

>Silent Hill 1 was by the west

Hydrate

I was talking about classic doom, which wasn't scary and was an action FPS

Doom 1 and 2 were scary as a kid and you're a lying faggot if you say otherwise.

They're both souless and for incels
Now
>Russian dog
Now that's soul

would anybody really be scared about a dog that can't even see because it has no eyes and with a crippled nose that can't even smell you?
and it doesn't even have skin it would just die from bleeding.
it doesn't look spooky, it just looks like gore.

Doom is an action-horror game.

This is a better example of the same western horror in the OP done good

No they weren't big pink monsters were never scary

Yeah no, fuck that. I jumped three seconds in.

The noises they make just make them cute more than anything

The only proper answer.

Having monsters in a game doesn't make it horror.

The left one looks creepy, the right one looks alien.

Not that user but I was 10 when Doom came out and it wasn't scary. Not in the horror sense. It was tense like any game you could die in, and that's gone forever because you can instantly save. Back then it took like 45 seconds to fully save so you weren't willing to do it very often. Shit, early quick save games weren't much better. Half Life wasn't bad saving but if you played at release you could easily be looking at a minute or more loading each time. The enemies in Doom didn't have enough detail or animation to be truly scary. Believe me or don't. I'm old enough to remember, I bet you aren't.

Anyone got the Silent Hill PC guide?

Attached: chicken.jpg (656x835, 314K)

Left in the context of a video game, but if we're talking about being scary, I think I'd prefer coming across the left one instead of the right one in real life.
I could see myself kicking the left one to death if I'd have to, but that right thing would kill me for sure.

Well the left one is more designed to give a sense of unease, the feeling that something isn't quite right. The right is just big angry alien dog, which isn't really psychologically scary.

shut up you LYING
FUCKING
EDGELORD
FAGGOTS

>not a meme
Wrong, nigger. What you are seeing is purely jank. The lowres visual of the left is more unnerving but there is no way for devs to get away with making a single enemy have worse detail than everything else in their game without catching unmitigated flack for it.

>lowres visual
They're both drawings dumb nigger

I've not played Silent Hill but the impression these give are "diseased, emaciated coyote that'll give you a blood disease if it bites you" and "large naked mutant rat."
The mutant rat would probably be more intimidating to fight in real life simply because it looks faster and more muscular but at the same time the coyote looks like it has komodo dragon tier bites and also rabies. Also the rat looks blind and deaf so easier to escape from or surprise attack than the coyote.
Purely on aesthetics alone the right one's dark shading and grim, yellowed skin barely covering the bones looks better than the sort of genetically modified weapon beast on the right though. The colors and ugly drippiness of the left one exude a gross factor, as well as the skin that looks like it would be unpleasant to touch even long after the beast has been put down. In comparison the right looks like it had just been shaved, it's too clean and smooth. It lacks the dirtiness as well, and the lighting is nice and bright, making it seem as though you've found this one in a bright room or out in daylight, compared to the other looking like you just walked into a windowless warehouse and the light from a streetlamp flooding in is illuminating the side of it.

this is good because it's not actually a dog, it's a human skull with necromorph bone growths that make it look like a dog

What does this even mean?

>What does this even mean?

Attached: 1563626051309.png (261x215, 19K)

Arts of SH1-3 are so beautiful. I mean, of course, they are weird, unease-inducing monsters, but something makes me keep staring at them whenever I come across one.

>I play archive detective

The large mutated rat doesn't give a sense of supernatural though, it just looks like a big alien monster.

>zombies
>demons
>literal hell
Literally none of the doom games are horror in any way

the second, fuller dog head ruins it
if it were just the skull it'd be pretty good, otherwise it kinda sucks

I guess that's part of it, although I did mention "genetically modified weapon" to try and cover that. The left one looks like a rabid, diseased creature, the right one looks like it was made in a lab.

I'm more disgusted than terrified.

>2019
>silent hill is still dead

fuck konami

Attached: 1549410152329.jpg (771x771, 84K)

But they're both intended to be supernatural is the problem. The one on the right is also from silent hill but from one of the western developed ones and it totally misses the point.

>Still have PT downloaded on my PS4

Silent Hill has been mediocre at best since 4. The series being completely dead is about the best thing to happen to the series. We got 3-4 great games and that's fine.

DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! It will not work.
Don't install under C:\Program Files\ ! This will cause issues.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate using ePSXe or PCSX-R.

Follow the SH2 widescreen fix site's instructions to the teeth, and you should be fine.

>Protips
-Play in the release order.
-Never play below Normal difficulty! Especially in case of #2!
-Replaying them all is recommended; tons of replay value.
-Turn down the ingame Brightness setting, for better gamma & colors!
-Don't try to kill everything that moves, especially outdoors. Leg it, or sneak!
-Turning OFF the flashlight can really help w/ stealth!

Elaborate on this for me, as I noted I haven't played any SH games (or any proper horror games for that matter really) and was just giving my impressions on the designs.
The one on the right certainly doesn't look supernatural, in what was is it meant to be as such? Possessed flesh or something? Is it a demon? It's too clean, it looks like a lab-grown experiment from a movie, while the thing on the left looks like an extremely diseased, disheveled coyote with rabies or some other degenerative disease.

I think right would scare me more, left just looks like some fucked up dog dribbling blood

I don't think the devs really knew, they just thought "monster dog" and put it in the game without really thinking it through. The left dog is mostly meant to set the scene for the game, since it's the first thing you come across, a weird fucked up dog that looks mostly normal but a bit off, something that looks mostly normal but not quite right.

Left one hands down.

OP didn't you get your ass thoroughly raped last time you made this thread?

It's the eyes.

Having a recognizeable but to some degree distorted face is the peak of horror.

why does japan do everything better than the west?

AUUUAUAUAUHHHHH YES PLEASE UUUHUHHGGG
IM A NAUGHTY LITTLE GIMP BOY
PLEASE MOOOOOROREEE UHHHGHGG

a design like the one on the left fits doom perfectly. the overdesigned enemies of nu-DOOM are ugly.

re2

JP horror is a shitty example.
Every fucking thing they do boils down to ghosts and most often pale girls wearing white

Right. I like it to be a bit more monstrous.

If right had a transformation sequence showing a normal dog turning into that then sure but this is Silent Hill not Resident Evil so left one.

This is probably a dog thread, though I'm not sure since there's no dog around.

Attached: Mason.png (590x503, 424K)

Both look like shit.
Left is a fucking meaningless bloby mess, right is so uniform its impossible to tell what part to look at.
Both were drawn by amateurs.

I dont understand why they keep making alien flesh monsters in western horror games instead of turning something that we are very familiar with into a corrupted version of it.

Or create something completely new and original (I know, very unlikely).
Humans have a natural fear of the Unknown, make the monster something unrecognizable/unnatural.

I see. And what's the setting for the other? An abandoned laboratory? Hell?

>japanese horror

Not so much fear as a resigned sigh as I pull out the shotgun again. One of the few games where you have a designated "monster killer" weapon and one for the humies.

The right is literally a dog without skin you retard.

I honestly think Homecoming has some of the better monster designs in the series not counting the Pyramid head rehash

Design philosophy is literally just "approach to design".

Homecoming > Silent Hill 2 > Origins > Silent Hill 3 > Silent Hill > Downpour > 4: The Room
in terms of bosses, imo

I was talking about what the fag was doing.

The fag was asking "What does this even mean?"

oh, he's being a shit poster

Which one is the Japanese design? I like that one better.

Attached: 1389128115086.gif (500x364, 982K)

I'm sure there's a subway that has a station at a mall somewhere, but most malls don't exist anymore

Both are good but I prefer left because it looks like a dog that had something horrible happen to it instead of a demon dog.

I see it. Pretty creepy

Only mall I ever been to that had a subway was near DC.

Never played this game but this is god tier sound design, holy shit.

Attached: 1565313656254.png (1920x1368, 1.32M)

Left is only creepy because the torso looks human. Real dog ribcages looks like the right image.

Left if its out to kill you, right if its not hostile and just quivers after being flayed.

It's an incredibly solid game, definitely check it out if you get the chance. inb4 someone whines about dead space 3, we fucking know it sucked shut the fuck up

it alright

Retard.

Right looks kinda too cool to be scary. I personally like normal looking dogs but then their faces split open and shit so it has a familiarity but then becomes wholly corrupt. Sort of like something you might see in your nightmares.

You can tell the number of Japanese horror games you've played is 0 by the way, work on that bait.

no it isn't

The whole game is god tier sound design. All those SHfags going on about how Akira Yamaoka is god tier sound design wouldn't know god tier sound design if it bit them on the ass. That shit is what you get in Dead Space for enemy sound design, in SH you get squeaks and farts and some faggot telling you how the squeak symbolizes childhood regression and the fart symbolizes a mad descent into hysteria.

>monster closets
Those are annoying as all fuck.

seething EOP

But he's right. Everything else in Japanese horror media is ripped straight out of western horror. Name a single Jap horror game that either doesn't have a long haired female ghost antagonist or wasn't a direct rip off of western media.

kek

Nah

Silent Hill.

>"B-b-b-but it's not like Silent Hill 2's monsters!"

shotgun for monster and rifle for humies, also the biggest most unwieldy handgun for shit like dwarf psychic boomers and pseudomutts

The Witcher 3

>Silent Hill
>not a direct rip off of western media
There's a whole page on the SH wiki detailing all the western shit the game steals from.

Attached: vgjj.jpg (400x400, 16K)

idiotbrain!

Long haired ghost girl originated from the east, most western horror that isn't slasher or torture porn is derivative of the east what are you on about?

>most western horror that isn't slasher or torture porn is derivative of the east
Utter crap.

There is literally no western work of horror not ripped off from Japan. Just like how all Japanese horror is derivative of western media.

Doom 64 is the same game as 2 but with Quake-like maps, sprites and soundtrack.
He only knows of it from posts by retards praising it. It's just a WAD.

You're not making any sense.
This conversation is over.

Here in Japan, sometimes big trains stations double as a mall and connect to the subway.

Right it's too clean, leave muscle exposed like that and shit will rot fast

I'd like to interject you for a moment to notice that you said "Russian dog" when, it fact, it's Ukrainian dog

Attached: cb9.png (463x660, 275K)

It's the same setting pretty much, not even joking.

SH fanboy here. Here's an idea, why don't you guys quit being fucking nerds and appreciate both sides without trying to decide which is "better". I haven't played anything from Dead Space yet but the monster sound design I've heard is fucking bone chilling. I might prefer SH as a whole but I can tell that Dead Space stuff will have a lot I can appreciate just from the attention to the sound alone, even if the monster designs might not hit me as hard as those in SH.

Attached: scared.jpg (312x282, 16K)

How about you get fucking standards faggo?

Attached: 1529617639345.png (596x799, 676K)

DS relied too much on jump scares for my tastes, although I'll admit they did a better job with monster design than most horror games out there.

Then that seems a tad ill-fitting.

Left: that's gross and I am going to do anything I can to kill it before it gets close to me

Right: I wanna FUCK that thing

Pro tip: If the necromorphs aren’t dismembered and they’re laying on the ground you might want to not walk into them.

Siam is just a more s&m version of the Closer/Mandarin

But I believe Schism, Sepulcher, Scarlet, Amnion and Asphixia were wasted on a turd like Homecoming.

Fuck the dogs though, OP's concept art makes them look cool but ingame they look terrible

neither of these work
left is just silly and right looks too clean for a gory design

Someone sounds rump-roasted over being told their game isn't that good.

Attached: 1540523028538.gif (500x281, 221K)

The very premise of Homecoming is wasted on Homecoming. Bugs me that they came up with a cool background story but it's stuck in such a piece of shit.

neither of those, nothing gonna top this one

Attached: Screenshot_20190908-100236_Gallery.jpg (537x525, 149K)

I like both but I prefer right because it has that
unnatural flesh look which I always find unsettling and what scared in sh games the most.

Right looks like a generic monster
Left still resembles a dog entirely but is fucked up. Since we know of dogs and have had such a long time relationship with them, especially those who actually grew up with them, it's more unnerving. Kind of makes me think of a sort of uncanny valley thing where if it still resembles the original creature it's creepier than if it looked actually different.

The sound design is the primary element Dead Space is good for. Unfortunately in 1's case it's also massively scripted so every single clang you hear in the environment is timed to you stepping on a specific trigger which makes repeat playthroughs incredibly dull, it's very lacking in actual ambience. And 2 and 3 abandoned all notion of being a horror game.

Based

I had a dog with severe allergies who lost all his fur afterwards that looked similar to this. He was honestly perfectly healthy otherwise, he just looked fuckin' gross. He was a good boy.

"skinned animal/human" has never been interesting, you can keep the same general idea and color scheme but make it actually interesting like necromorphs

Unrelated but do you think an enemy who has a simple design (just a dog) that turns into a more complex design (horrible flesh spider comprised of dog parts) is a good idea or would it be best to cut out the simple design and just start with dog flesh spider?

wich one would you _____?

?

Right, for the wrong reasons. Left is made to look like a dog wearing human skin. Right is just an animated chinese dinner.

Left for modern horror.
Right for sci-fi horror.

Attached: gilbert-gottfried.jpg (920x520, 41K)

you could play deadspace with no sound and it would still be effective because the entire core of the game is based around it always giving you too few bullets for the situation you are currently in but also tricking the player into believing it's their own fault.

>not left for scifi horror

Left

Left one has details that makes it look like the dog has a human torso. The right one looks too demonic and "in your face" when it comes to show you why you're supposed to be scared about it. The scary shit is implied more on the left one.

Left is cuter

>differences between j-horror and western horror

Right is cooler, itd make a good alien in another game. Left is scarier

Why post a picture of Tim Sweeny?

Zoom, zoom
Several levels in Doom were horror type levels while others were more actiony. You source pprt playing 90s born queers cant tell with your fucked up lighting destroying the darkness in the original levels.

Pretty sure it was one of the best selling game of the franchise.

Scifi can absolutely be grungy what are you talking about, dirty aesthetics in scifi isn't lumping it in with post apocalypse

right. anyone who goes outside will see a rabid dog but a dog with no skin provokes the sense of seeing something your familiar with but at an angle which makes it seem unfriendly. Seeing the muscles rippling as it charges at you unrestrained makes it seem larger than life but also pulls you closer to reality by giving you a glimpse of what's inside of all of us. It's not about what would scare you in its first encounter it's about what would leave a lingering sense of unease and dread that really gets you and a skinned dog tearing at your neck would do just that. but if It was a catdog experiment as the photo would suggest upon first viewing that would be really fucking scary

Nah dude you were just a faggot lol

I found all that stuff way too on the nose to be scary.

Honestly they abused the monster closests so much even the jump scare factor wore off because you literally just get used to them

left is a rotting corrupted form of what we recognize as real.
Right looks like some streamlined bio machine from a sci-fi.

Left is better horror.

Watch a girl get fucked by? Right, of course.

Depends on context.
If it's just zombies, left is much, much better.
If it's actually some sort of Thing-esque setting, where you really aren't supposed to know exactly what those things are, the right is better.

Nigger i had Doom on Snes and Doom 64 and that shit didn't scare me when i was 8 you troglodyte

Very, very wrong.

I liked finding out that the Norwegian guys were actually spoiling the entire thing right at the start. Also liked how the newer one actually led as a prequel with completely flawless continuation back into the first.

>tfw Prey reboot was a cool game but the enemy design is just black humanoid things

Is PT literally the only scary horror game to date? I haven't been successfully scared shitless in any game except PT and STALKER, but that's not a horror game.

We all saw The Thing, the former works way better

Former because while or when it's changing it sparks that WHAT THE FUCK sort of response while the latter may creep you out at first but then it's normal because you know that's just the one form it has.

Well, guess I was wrong then
it did okay for the franchise tho

Looks like the skin of my dick lmao

That other poster had the right idea. It's only scary when it's pixelated.

Attached: Untitled.png (585x441, 35K)

The setting was horrific user, so you're wrong.

We posting good scary dog designs in this thread?

sure is scary alright

The mutants in stalker are absolutely based

Attached: monster.jpg (3333x1200, 1.35M)

The only thing scary about that is that it probably has rabies or something.

>we're putting together a team

Yeah I know it's a shame Silent Hill is garbo.

I feel like I'm the only person that doesn't think Stalkers are scary

holy shit its nelson

The one on the right is literally dishonest horror

I remember the first time playing modded STALKER and one of those noodle-armed mother fuckers snuck up on me. I had no idea that the mod added uncut mutants so I was off doing my STALKAN thing when some wacky waving inflatable mother fucker comes clambering over the wall.
I unloaded a couple rounds into th

God this game had such good enemy design. Im still pissed at EA for killing visceral.

Yep pretty much.

The freakiest thing about them is that they still sound recognizably human

Holy shit you sound like a queer.
The left one is way creepier.

Left by a long shot because of the color palette.
Right looks like it jumped out of an anatomy textbook. It's too clean of a design and kind of 'cool' looking.

jap soul west soulless. did i do it right?

Neither are scary.

Nothing is scary if you aren't a pussy

Remember that the dogs in SH4 don't have long tongues, those are umbilical cords.

Can anyone post it? I think I saw it but it's been too long.

Lmao what a mad idiot.
Anatomy doesn't even compare.

Would unironically pet both.

>we've had ZERO (0) fucking good horror games this year
What the hell Yea Forums?

whats supposed to represent j-horror, and whats supposed to represent western horror?

Japanese one is soul, western is soulless.
Which one is japanese, by the way?

>Doom 1 and 2 were scary as a kid
How the fuck is a game with such a rocking soundtrack scary? I played the fuck out of Doom 1 and 2 as a kid.

Both are shit. But the right is more shit for for using the same enemy idea nearly a decade later.

A fellow thinker

>left looks like a real boiled dog im chinese btw
Why did everyone ignore this post

Left is natural horror.
Right is forced horror.

Then what's "that" then?

>forced horror
This post was specifically created to slightly urk me

Just a flesh (h)wound...

>stuttering on a silent letter
How would that even work?

>newfag has never seen a skinned dog before

Someone pinching off a loaf in the upstairs bathroom is scary as a kid, fucking kids are infamous for being pussies why would you use that as a justification for anything?
I had fucking nightmares about those green faggots in Chex Quest because I didn't like trunks for some reason as a kid and thought they'd suck out my organs through my belly with their trunk nose.

He's sitting on a washing machine

The chad answer is sew the two sides together

To be fair "I'm afraid/ashamed of this thing so it appears as a 2spook in Silent Hill" was always a stupid design decision. Especially since Heather is apparently afraid of Nurses, Mannequins, Mirrors, Sex, Dogs, Mascot Costumes and vaginas.

It doesn't help that the iconic ones keep showing up even out of context. Like the aforementioned Nurses.

This. Go replay KDITD in both Chocolate Doom and GZDoom back to back. The difference is staggering.

I always thought those white stripes on their backs were weird desu.

>Put boot or fist down the middle of the split head
>Can't get bitten anymore
HEH

They're meant to be bandages covering charred skin, tying back to Alessa's fondness for well-done steaks if you know what I mean.

Right is scarier. Also that OP is a faggot

I see it now, but in-game they always just looked like striped doggos.

The one on the right looks cool not scary

Left by far

Attached: 184932646.jpg (2000x1356, 620K)

>How the fuck is a game with such a rocking soundtrack scary?
Not every track was E1M1 user.
Shit like Suspense, Dark Halls or hell, even Imp's Song clearly on the more atmospheric side.

The first Doom also had quite a few dark areas where you couldn't see shit.

Fucking chinks eating dogs.
I get that you're starving but can't you try to eat mice and rats and insects more often? Anything but fucking animals that were meant as pets, helpers, not food.

Attached: 1557718135358.jpg (925x570, 160K)

Cause non underages don't fall for bad LARPs like that one

nah, they were pretty cute, I loved their corner peeks

2011 The Thing gets shat on constantly because "muh practical effects", but god damn they really did do a good job putting all the minor incremental details together from that 10 minute visit to the Norwegian base in from the first movie and building an entire prequel movie that perfectly loops back into the original.

2011 gets shat on because of completely meaningless CGI.

>helpers, not food.
What about cows? What about buffalos? What about horses?
Shut the fuck up.

If the need for food is greater than the need to have a pet then you make food out of them. Nothing weird about that sort of logic. We're just not in that kind of situation.

I think he meant Doom 3, or at least Doom 64

Horror creatures aren't scary when you understand what they are, so you have to have to be extra careful to avoid stupid design cliches since those help you understand the monster much faster

This. Silent Hills 1-3 came out during a time when Japanese AA developers reached the peak of creativity and freedom. The circumstances that allowed those games to be good will not occur ever again, at least not in a place like Konami.

>ITT: Anons choosing left because they know it was made by japs, and would have chosen left if their sides were switched but the text remained the same

This

Bloodborne was originally going to have an NPC in the starting area that spelled out the plot for you and literally calls the scourge Lycanthropy. It would have been fucking lame

>"fucking sóyboys, using words i don't understand! >:^|"

Cows and buffalos are not pets idiot

Why are people ignoring this post?

Oh yeah, because it contradicts the false narrative of the OP.

Attached: 1552946972299.jpg (700x555, 35K)

Not really, the jap design in OP's post still came first, just like the western design did later.
How well they were translated into the game doesn't really matter here.

>Not really, the jap design in OP's post still came first
What do you mean, came first? As that screenshot of SH1 shows, it's the Japanese developers that first implementd the ""fleshless" dog design?

>concept art is more important than actual in-game assets
You're retarded.

Attached: 1523451916032.jpg (454x284, 36K)

Both shite

I mean they made the design first and then translated it into the game as best as they could,
which due to technical limitations ended up looking like the ingame screenshot shows.
Point is that OP is talking about the design philosophy not how effective or good they look ingame,
so while they both may end up looking like skinless dogs, left was designed as this sickly looking hairless monster, while the right started as a skinless alien dog.

Because they have functioning eyeballs and can see it's far closer to the left in the OP than the right.
It's not fleshless, it's the design from OP but with pinker skin.

Left because japan made it

Ah, so this is what happens when an xbox 360 is your first console.

>which due to technical limitations ended up looking like the ingame screenshot shows.
What technical limitations? Sh1 came out in 2000. Games much older than that had dogs that look like the one in the Japanese concept art.

Why are you going through such extreme mental gymnastics to avoid admitting the Japanese developers implementd that particular pink design first? In fact, it's very likely the western SH developers were inspired by it.

Attached: 1564583123152.jpg (500x359, 30K)

Left and I'm pretty sure that is the SH1 dog right?

Because you're totally missing the point.
Read the other half of my post aswell.

>I mean they made the design first and then translated it into the game as best as they could,
>which due to technical limitations ended up looking like the ingame screenshot shows.

>"technical limitations"
This is a dog from a 3D game made for fucking DOS. There was no reason the SH1 dog couldn't have looked the concept art, except apparently the Japanese developers preferred th dog to have a design closer to the ones the westrn Silent Hill developers would later implement.

Chinese videos, man.

>this coping

well maybe europe shouldnt be so forgetable

I must defend Japan at all costs, so obviously left is best because reasons

Must be convenient to be illiterate

>basis of your entire culture
>forgetable
yikes bro

>doom
>horror

I think right side if it had the head of left side

but when you consider Resident evil was based on the first Alone in the Dark, you'll notice both methods are western in origin.

left

Just make both sides into one monster.

I'd be much more afraid of the left one, it looks diseased and emaciated. Rabies is a terrifying infection.

They're scary at first but once you use stasis on them they become unintentionally hilarious.

Why would I assume the dog in was originally designed to look more like the left dog in ? It seems more likely it was designed to look more or less like how it looks, which is more similar to the right dog in , which doesn't line up with this supposed difference in eastern/western design philosophy (assuming left in the OP is even supposed to reference Japan - it isn't labelled obviously because it is bait).

Wait a minute, this is from DMC1/RE4

Attached: 01 (71).jpg (2386x3487, 1.19M)

Also lacks the horse.

Behind you.

Left dog is from Silent Hill 1, right from Silent Hill Homecoming, developed by japanese and western teams respectively.
You can easily tell that, even though you yourself perceive it as a skinless dog, it's meant to look like the art on the left, as other Silent Hill 1 enemies also have a more pinkish smooth texture than their art.
It's simply how that sorta skin looked like in the game.
