What's Yea Forums think of Project Zomboid. I'm really liking it so far, the zombies fit my preferred rendition of a zombie. Although, the amount of zombies can get a bit tiresome.
Project Zomboid
Like most zombie games. Great potential, decades long development time. Bear in mind the first version got released in 2011 and it is still not finished. That should tell you everything you need.
Decent game, horrendous UI, the epitome of an inexperienced dev team biting off more than they can chew. The games been in early access for 7 years. Seven. Fucking. Years. Basic features that they promised at launch are still missing, which the entire community has been begging for, like NPC survivors are nowhere in sight. Instead they add retarded features nobody asked for like adding calories to potato chips. The reworked animation system that is always touted as being so close to being done has been so close to being done for three years.
It is a fun game as it is. But the devs are community college tier programmers that have no fucking idea what they're doing.
Was one of the first backers, game has taken forever and achieved nothing. There is no good zombie game.
>dev team
I thought it was made by one dude. He even lost the SDK for the game once when his laptop got stolen because cloud backups are for pussies.
False. CDDA is the best zombie game there is. Unles you are graphics fag. If that's the case, than you are right. CDDA does everything zomboid does, but ten times better and hundred times deeper.
Meh, I like DF but I can't be fucked playing more than that.
No, it's never been made by one person. More like a dozen. And they even hired on a few more a few years ago.
>they even hired on a few more a few years ago
How much runway do they still have? Unless they have a Patreon which sort of guarantees the game not being made.
Isn't like Zomboid was inspired by CDDA ?
Pretty sure the game still sells enough that they don't have to abandon it. But the reason it's taking forever for any actual new features is because it's essentially part time work for everyone. They can afford to keep people on the payroll when that person only works 5 hours per week from home.
cdda was much easier to learn for me than DF. But I play similiar games pretty regularly.
Doubt that. First zomboid version got released in 2011. First CDDA got released in 2013.
Huh, i see. Well CDDA anyway looks more fun, even if looks like dogshit.
It has tremendous potential. They've made some very promising progress over the past year or so, mostly with the addition of cars and shit. Hopefully more major updates will come in the next year. I'm most excited for the animation revamp
can i play with friends over the internet?
Garbage dev team. Had zomboid since they were selling it on desura. They used to have NPCs back then, then they removed them and have been saying NPCS SOON!!!! for nearly 10 years now. Not to mention the game still feels barebones and clunky despite all the dev time. But hey they added more generic buildings so based!
CDDA is bloated trash, and it is not the same as Cataclysm which was an inspiration for Zomboid.
DF is just enough autism for me.
>Excited for the animation revamp
So was I. Three years ago.
Depends. There are plenty of tilesets you can choose from. It is still turn based game with tiles, but you can make it look pretty nice. Some tilesets even show all your gear on your character. And the equipment system has no slots so you can wear all the clothing you want.
Depends what you mean by bloated. Code wise? Maybe. Content wise? Debatable, since you can disable and change pretty much anything in the game.
>Its a more time to play the game, bigger the zombie hordes are episode
stop with that shit, they should be random.
It does have tremendous potential, but the development team behind it will never be able to realize that.
>set zombies to not respawn
>hordes only get smaller as time goes on
not hard to figure out
Just give them 30 more years user.
You can change pretty much any option in that game. It has many flaws, but this isn't one of them.
In my defence, I played earlier versions without that options.
Time to play it again looks like,
Does this have any good mods?
Shitty cdda rip off.
Cdda is the open source fan continuation of Cataclysm.
>literal zoomer that weren't around when whale the whiny autist created cata
It was shit but fuck me if CDDA wasn't worse when the new team took over.
Terrible mismanaged, but tons of potential.
Weird to compare it to CDDA though since it's real time and not turn based
it's amazing. early access means you not only get to see games being made, you can also watch a team of amateurs fuck everything up over and over and over until years later they might actually have the skills to deliver - far too late for anyone to give a fuck.
It's okay, not as good as CDDA.
it's possible to run CDDA in real time; sort of like how Diablo was turn based until the guy made the game auto run through turns at a set speed.
I don't think any amount of time will allow them to create the game it can be.
i thought they stopped making it cause all their stuff got stolen
They literally went "we'll just make cdda with actual graphics, the games already made it will be easy" then 7 years passed....
I have put several hundred hours into it and still pick it up now and then but it's annoying how they outright refused to finish the most important aspects of the game. Cars are neat but I could honestly give two shits about muh animations when they refuse to finish NPC's and the weapons set has been abhorrent for so long. Most of the good shit in the game has come from modders work being incorporated. I would really like to see them finish it but I learned a long time ago to just check in on it once every 6 months or so. The silver lining in all of it is that at least the team stayed well clear of getting political with shit over this whole time. I guess they make enough drama for themselves.
He specificaly asked if zomboid was inspired by CDDA. Not Cataclysm.
And we answered, no, it was inspired by cata.
It's hardly autistic. DF is an inspiration for the devs but it was also a cautionary tale of what not to do. It's easy to play and figure out what your doing if you use the "?" Key.
They lost a few months of work. Which is pretty much nothing when you're talking about a game that's been in development for over 8 years.
It's inferior to CDDA, but it does a few things a little better.
The developer just isn't as passionate or good enough to finish the project it seems, and Zomboid has been in Early Access for a very long time without much progress.
Is this a legit tileset for CDDA? It looks fucking great, what's its name? I haven't played the game for a long time and might return. Are there any more 3D tilesets like this?
The game would be better if it narrowed its scope into a singleplayer game and it'd be finished by now. It doesn't help that the devs keep deciding they don't like work they've already done and waste so much time refactoring minor details that don't even have that much impact on the overall game.
The original demo was fun as fuck and even had NPCs, which have been promised for years and years to get added back in. The original map was good too. You had the house you started in, the neighbors houses, backyards, a small piece of forest with a hidden cabin, a park, a resturaunt or whatever it was, and a tall building.
Even though it was a small vertical slice of game, it put you in the action and gave you distinct areas to play with. The locales in the current game are bland as fuck and are way too large, with way too much empty useless space between them. Not only is exploring tedious and boring, but the only thing you're really trying to accomplish is build an autism fort.
Shit boring game, they butchered the history.
And the mods are hideous too some of them reaching to autistic points that no one need to reach for a pixel game.
