I bought HD and got Omega Collection just for Zone Mode.
I'd buy it a third time for more Zone Mode. The rest of the gameplay is meh. The interface/hud/announcer elements are also perfect.

Yeah that was a bad call from the store. Psygnosis themselves wanted the game to appeal to an older audience, the kind who chain-smoked and listened to Autechre all day to contrast with F-zero's Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic.

This. The art direction is stellar and the only game I would call "complete" in that regard. Every aspect of what you are presented with looks like it could exist in a real world by a real company or organization trying to hype anti-grav racing.

Still pissed Sony closed the studio down. It's such a generational slam-dunk profit maker.

It is a game for high functioning autists, I don't mean that as a meme or joke. Everyone I've met that plays it says the menus are perfectly designed for the game.

Is it really? Sony just want multi-million sellers and cut everything else now, it's not just Wipe, it's all of their niche IPs that are getting cut if they can't rework them into an openworld story driven TPS

I want to believe that these interchangable, over-the-shoulder, 3rd person shooters with crafting mechanics will crash Sony's first party divisions from over saturation and force them to add some diversity to their lineup, but the normalfag's wallet is big and their brain small.

zone mode is overrated. it take forever to actually get going fast. there should've been a feature that lets you start at a certain speed like what tetris does.

I like it the way it is. I can get into zone 50+ reliably on every track except 1 or 2 from 2048 due to the turns. I like the slow ramp up, its good for gauging speed change vs button use. If I could just start at zone 40 I probably wouldn't make it to 50 because the speed would start too intense for me.

Omega Collection was free on PSN+ last month. Probably why there have been threads here and there the last few weeks.

Absolutely god-tier, some of the best arcade racers ever made, especially the PS1 games. The others are good too (besides Fusion) but the physics took a bit hit so they're not quite as fun to play. Though I haven't been playing it much lately due to BallisticNG's existence

But there's plenty of more experienced players that play on phantom and feel like it's slow, starting from the lowest speed class is torture especially because it's not time trials but survival so there's no point caring about lines.

In a way yeah but I feel like the slower speeds only feel so insanely slow because you are playing the slow speed right after playing at Zen speed.
Same way 50cc in Mario Kart feels so slow when you can race the highest cc fine.
I wouldn't be opposed to a more custom set up in the future (there is no future).
All these years and I still can't do a single lap over zone 10 with just the airbrakes. I have no idea how people can do that shit. Its just too much for my pleb brain to handle.

I was in the top10 for a few tracks in zone mode for like a year back before they wiped the records. I'm one of those most experienced players. But all I play is zone mode or time trial. The actual race mode is give or take to me.

Well obviously that's a part of it, but what are you supposed to do NOT play the faster speed class just to enjoy zone mode? But yeah it doesn't matter either way now that Wipeout's dead, I hope BallisticNG's dev implements such a feature in the future but with how the scoring/leaderboards work that's unlikely.

Racing's good fun in multiplayer but against the AI agreed it's just time trials with a luck element for the most part. I don't mind since the gameplay is so fun that I can grind time trials for ages though.

My dream game is a Wipeout style game with Gran Turismo levels of autism in the pit crew and general racer life that goes along with racing. I'd love a game that has the same loyalty system for brand sponsers with actual upgrades or mods you can buy or get to make your ship unique. And custom liveries.
I love GTSports sponsored race season set up where you choose a sponser for the season and have to race in their vehicles no matter the race format. Subaru might have a great Group B car but their Group A car is shit or doesn't exist so you have to sit those races out in hopes that your amazing rally race can carry enough points for the next leg.
Would love to finally prove based Feisar superiority.
