Yea Forums, I have a dumb question that I could not find anywhere anwered:

Oh, also, this:

I spent my labor day weekend finally getting this to work. Allow me to save you time from my frustration.

I'm not sure about the xboner controller, but I use a PS3 pad for PC games and it functions as a straight-up USB wired controller. No mucking about with bluetooth or the battery or anything.

>Yeah, Xbone controllers can work as wired controllers if you plug them in.
It just charges them, same with wireless 360 pads, no information is sent through the USB cable, you need a dongle

Was actually going to make a thread related to this, but since this one's already here:

>YS: But while Shenmue 3 can be played by keyboard, personally I want people to play with a controller. That's because Shenmue 3 continues the series' tradition of having a game design with a lot of mini-games, and those mini-games have been built with a controller in mind: "at this point you pull a trigger", or "at that point you press a button", and so on.

>4Gamer: I see. Meaning that the choice of keyboard vs controller changes how the game feels to the touch when played.

>YS: Having said that, controllers can be divided roughly into two types.

>4Gamer: The layout of the analog stick and buttons differs between a Xbox-style and a PS4-style controller, doesn't it?

>YS: You know, I wish they'd do something about unifying them [laughs].
Do you think there will come a time when at least non-Nintendo consoles will standardize the controller? They already run on basically the same core AMD platform on the inside. It would certainly lighten the burden for developers.

Totally wrong, it works as a normal wired controller if plugged in and you don't even necessarily need a dongle to use it wirelessly

Something else to keep in mind beyond what's been said, the control sticks on both the 360 and XBone controllers are more or less made of paper mache. The rubber pads will wear off merely from contact with your skin, the centering will loosen up, and after that the stick bases will degrade and harden up for lack of a better description. They'll physically stick, refuse to spring back, etc, and it's not from anything gunking them up. These controllers, sadly, are about the best game in town when it comes to using on on the PC, but count on having to buy a new one a year or two down the road or having to do a solder job to replace the sticks. Also, don't let anyone blow smoke up your ass about the XBone premium edition or whatever the fuck conditions with "performance" parts, the sticks still wear down and fail just as fast as the normal ones.

I've read that you can fuck the microusb port if you're not careful, so be aware of that.

>>Do you think there will come a time when at least non-Nintendo consoles will standardize the controller?
Not anytime soon. Dualshock layout is part of the PS brand, and MS will never adopt it. One of them would have to die desu.

not for 360

Get that one Logitech that's like 15 bucks it's pretty damn based

we're talking about xbox one controllers user
